Hey guys,
This is about my son, but I’m posting it because it pertains to what is happening in the music industry. My son is the drummer in the indie-rock band The Dodos. Here is something that was written about them in the LA Times blog, Pop&Hiss-
"The Dodos have landed. The latest from the Bay Area pop act, which crafts hooks with a worldy spin, has been drawing rave reviews. "No Color" is an album that also features a high-profile guest spot in Neko Case, and plenty of good things were overheard about the band at the recent South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. The album cracks the top 100, landing at No. 70 after selling 7,000 copies. While nothing should be taken away from the Dodos' success, it can't help but illustrate the industry's overall decline in sales. At 7,000 copies, it's as if a little more than half of SXSW's paid registrants of 13,000 bought one. "
So, it’s great for a little indie band to sell 7,000 albums in a week! Yay! (Will take most of the year to quadruple that number…maybe somewhat more if lucky) But, really, sell 7000 and you chart at #70??? Well, the Pop&Hiss comments say it all.
Also, mixed blessing, this is great publicity for them, but those darned fussy indie fans may now think they are too successful, too “mainstream.”

Hey guys, I was just wondering if we have a gifting thread for Atop people who can not afford to get themselves the DVD. I don't have a lot of money these days, but I would certainly gift one copy to someone in need of sparkle and love. And I would guess some others would share the love as well. Do we have a place for those in need of such a gift to let it be known?
Thanks. peace&love

Just as I posted my computer wouldn't load a new page or other sites or anything. Now, after a bit, it is back to normal.
Mys*&@^#r, go ahead and steal if you wish.
Midwifespal, I'll check my PM's now...

I'm a few pages back, and you all probably have moved on by now, but just have to say- anyone can sing, anyone can play an instrument, anyone can dance, anyone can act, anyone can take a photograph, anyone can paint a canvas, anyone can sculpt, anyone can write poetry, anyone can write a novel...
But how well??? And, in addition to having great technical skill, who has the added vision/emotional content/connectivity (whatever it actually is) to stand apart, transcend the expected ???
For that matter, anyone can teach, anyone can heal, anyone can do engineering, anyone can give financial advice.... But how well??? And with the touch of an artist???
I'm beating this "anyone" argument with a dead horse!!!! Hahahah! In all walks of life we can say "anyone," but only a few people are truly exceptional. Not everyone recognizes them, but there are individuals in every field who have the skill and "it" factor to turn their work into a kind of art. It is a joy to behold. It is a joy to watch Adam turn his work into art!

I'm back quite a few pages, trying to quickly scan the thread, so apologies if this has already been said- green necklace in new photos is perhaps a memorial for the no-longer-worn aqua board shorts????

I only have a little time here and there to check Adam news, so I check in here. I think it's funny that the only way I know what is happening at ALF is if something is posted on Atop. Thanks everybody for keeping me up-to-date! peace&love

Adam is trending on Yahoo. People looking up where to buy remix Aftermath? Or just people who didn't know anything about him looking for info? When one clicks on his name in the trend list the first article shown is about Aftermath remix for the Trevor Project. Yay!!!

Noticed a comment a few pages back about wondering why Jake Shears gets more support from the gay community (OK, we know it's not a monolithic, homogeneous group, but I am using the phrase as shorthand for the moment.) than Adam does. A few days ago in a conversation with my husband we touched on this subject. He wondered if perhaps the Scissor Sisters got more approval because they came up through gay clubs, were discovered by and given early support by the gay community in a way. Adam appeared to many to be "discovered" by a hokey TV show with his early support from straight women and girls. Didn't feel as if he was "theirs." - Just a thought-
