SNL may not mean much anymore, but it is still a sign that you are accepted and that you have respect and are considered "cool" by the industry. Which is why, I guess, very few people off Idol have ever been invited.

Wasn't Frank Ocean's album only released digitally in the US and UK, cause it was released a week earlier? That would seem to negate the rationale for him kicking Adam's butt in the UK if physical copies of his album weren't even available yet. I could be wrong about this, that's just what I thought I heard. Also, the success of Frank Ocean's album was no mistake. His label JUST HAPPENED to release his album one week early, just days after his coming out and colleagues in the music industry publicly supporting him. That was a very strategic and smart move on the part of his label and management. No dissing to the guy for his coming out, but the timing putting the album on sale early was calculated as hell. Ocean kicked Adam's butt in sales cause his label/management handled the release brilliantly.

I would think the UK will at least get Cuckoo as a single. I truly don't think we'll see another one here in the US unless Cuckoo breaks big overseas and RCA's radio reps could take those numbers to US radio to argue their case.

Taking Q3's example, if I were queen for a day, Adam would get the Idol judging gig, become fast friends with Jimmy Iovine and do everything in his power to get away from RCA and sign up with Interscope. If Jimmy could get a platinum album for Scotty Freakin' McCreery, just think what he could possibly do with Adam. For one thing, I don't think he'd try to turn him into Bruno Mars like RCA has tried to do.

The concept that there is a radio in-crowd that does not include Adam -- and that is the reason NCOE is not getting Top 40 Pop airplay makes no sense to me. In a way there is a radio "in crowd" -- artists who appeal to listeners between 18 and 25, and one artist that prove this is Bieber. With all of his success, he had a very hard time getting airplay. He got his high Billboard Hot 100 songs based mostly on sales. And he still does not have a #1 BB Hot 100 song in the US.

His US singles peaked 2009 #17, #16 2010 #5 (Baby 3x Platinum), #15, #15, #29, #89.

Even today they are still have to work hard to convince PDs to play his music. Boyfriend is 2X Platinum in the US -- and peaked on its debut week at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- with 521K in sales in the first week. It peaked at #9 on Mediabase Pop Radio airplay chart -- way before the album was released.

I will support NCOE as long as it is Adam's single. It would not have been my pick but is getting airplay. I will hope that RCA decides to release another single and that it is a real AFL song.

JMHO -- the "cool" artists (Rihanna, Drake, Usher, Radiohead, Black Keys, Bon Ivor etc.) were cool before then were on the show. And Michael Buble, Lady Anti, One Direction and Kelly Clarkson did not get "cool" for being on the show.

And the emerging artists (like Jack White) did not end up with much from being on SNL. And some of the performers should have stayed home (Robyn, Lana Del Ray) because the appearance did them no good. And most mysterious to me is Karmin -- who wasted this appearance with a meh performance (and 2 songs!!) and only managed to debut at #10 after so much hype for their album.

ETA: NO NO NO to Adam with Jimmy Iovine! Adam needs to find his own path, he does not need to be manufactured but an Iovine or Davis. I would love him to work with L.A. Reed.

Q3, I never said SNL makes these artists "cool," but read your list. Every musical guest would be considered current and "cool" in today's music scene. That is why they invite Gotye, and Radiohead, and even Lady A ( and not Daughtry or Selena Gomez, for example)

And I have said this before, but I don't think a formal tour, especially one that would run for months is a wise idea. Adam has no radio presence right now, and no hit this era. His album has not even sold 150K. He will basically disappear and be playing to the same group of fans. It will be interesting to see what happens; I know that last spring Adam did say that they would have to see how well the album sold when thinking about a tour.

Pia only had one song. It was released last summer. That may have been the test to see if she would get an album deal. She's never released any album and I haven't heard of any concrete plans to do so.

Don't know about FS, but Winstar is only half sold out. I checked their website last night and they have a seating chart showing what has been sold and what hasn't. It's not a big venue either. They've also started a 4 pack deal (I don't know the price but they're cutting deals for 4 tickets). I don't know, it bothers me when they start heavily discounting tickets to sell them. The majority of the tickets left weren't that expensive anyway. (29.50)

Just checked UK iTunes, Trespassing has completely fallen out of the Top 200. It still shows up as #48 on pop but gone from the overall chart.
