Z100 was the only add for Olly for about 3 weeks. Yes, they are spinning him and he is moving up CHR as other stations are jumping on the bandwagon. I am using my phone right now but when I get back on my computer I can tell you how many stations he has. Swarm, the DJ probably really does love Adam but they can't spin him unless the PD tells them. The days of DJs spinning music or artists they like is long gone :( If you want to feel better about Olly Murs (while he murders a classic) have a video of him falling down some stairs at the weekend: www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/jul/16/1 :4OMG:

What does this man? Even Frank Ocean, who kicked Adam's butt at #2,Frank Ocean's the guy who came out as LGBT and got some buzz so they bumped his release up a week early but it's neither here nor there, he pulled it off! Here's the UK album chart that Adam entered at #16. Frank Ocean entered at #2 with 13K. Both entered the same week. I really don't know about UK but I think I read one network is heavy urban - I think the one not spinning Adam? but I'm not sure about that part....so he probably got a ton of press and play from the looks of the sales on the urban singles chart (down below). Generic albums chart: www.officialcharts.com/albums-chart/Some back story analysis of the chart: www.musicweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=1050399&c=1I don't even see him on the singles chart, where Adam entered at #17.. www.officialcharts.com/singles-chart/He did chart #27 on their urban singles chart. I'm guessing that's where his sales came from in addition to the press like the Russell Simmons stuff. I'm not looking at UK radio so I really don't know about that part. www.officialcharts.com/r-and-b-singles-chart/Frank Ocean did not just come out of nowhere. And the album is great (if you are a R&B/urban/hip hop fan or just love music). www.mysanantonio.com/news/article/Singer-Frank-Ocean-is-making-people-listen-3710974.php It is opening big in the US too -- even with the surprise 1-week early digital release.

BBC picked him in their annual list of people to watch for in 2012. Radio 1 currently has him playlisted twice - as a feat. on that Kanye/Jay-Z track and his song Pyramids which I guess is the UK single.

I'm confused LOL. I know because I said that already. In my previous post(s) I said he was not "new" but an insider. And part of the [Beiber] machine DEF JAM. You're picking a part of my posts answering what I meant when I said Ocean kicked Adam's butt. All I did was comment that he killed the competition at #2. Supporting my point that being an insider has it's "benefits" if not being the huge factor in ANYONE's pop success. And Adam is anything but an insider. I didn't listen to the album because quality is irrelevant to my interests and a subjective view .

Well I completely do not get your point. Sony UK has the most music on UK radio. Frank Ocean is an underground R&B artist -- who has not gotten radio support and does not have hit singles, yet. So where is the insiderness in that? Let's agree to disagree on this "radio insider" theory. **** Back to Adam.

I just don't think it deserved a Z100 add on its own merit, over BTIM or NCOE :-/

Interestingly, they have decreased spins by 11 in the past 7 days. But their add was all it took for the song to take off. It is currently at #44 on the Top 40 chart.

You can't overestimate the importance of Z100 as a "leader".
I read this about three weeks ago on AO, but didn't want to report it here as it was too depressing. Now, in the current mood, I think it is ok to pass it on.
What the fan reported on AO was she called a station in Danbury, CT. The DJ said that he liked NCOE more than "the first single". But he played songs based on what the big stations (like Z100) were playing, and NCOE wasn't getting any play. The DJ said that in the business, NCOE was considered "a stiff", dead on arrival.
If Z100 is so important, I have to wonder what RCA did wrong that Adam had not one, but two singles that Z100 wouldn't support.

When I was in the UK -- I went to several HMV stores and in 4 different stores they told me they only got 125 copies of Trespassing. All sold out on the first day. They were quite surprised.
"Would you believe it, we sold out all 125 copies on Monday?" I said yes and recommended they listen to it if they could get a copy. The was forced to purchase my copies of the UK version at the merch stand at Queenbert -- where they did not count as sales.
