I'm pretty certain effeminate limp wristed Adam Lambert is also "still a man", and hopefully he won't find himself sitting next to this knuckle dragging jackass twice a week having to once again prove his worth as a human being, just like he had to do with GQ magazine when they thought they were SOOOO funny claiming he was lacking testosterone and was ~amusing for wearing a beard. I realize that no one may read this, but I feel the need to post anyway. I am not responding to the ridiculous/offensive nature of the lyrics--I agree with Swarm, MWP, and others on their points. I am responding to the reaction that Paisley should not be a judge because of a stereotypical view of him as a "knuckle dragging jackass." Making a judgement about someone based on one thing is limiting and ultimately divisive. Just as Adam is not just his AMA performance, Paisley is not just this song. Stereotypical Paisley fans (and Paisley himself) may find themselves enlightened by a differing point of view if Adam and Paisley were on the same judging panel. This would be an opportunity for dialogue, and one that I would welcome.

LOL Thread's dead, baby, Thread's dead. Maybe that's a good thing. But I do want to just quickly say: Alison--I hope this was clear in my post, but maybe it wasn't: I'm perfectly open to the idea of a Brad P/Adam combo on the judging panel. And although I'd heard of him before, and heard this song somewhere, I know very little about Paisley, and am happy to believe that there's much more to him than that. Also, I'm certainly not a country-music-hater, and as a Southerner myself I value highly a lot of the complexity/sophistication in the culture that gets erased/overshadowed by idiotic lyrics like those that we are discussing. If-- IF--this were indeed the Idol panel, then I gotta hand it to Fox--they know how to mix things up! LOL this fence I'm on about the whole Idol thing is getting mighty uncomfortable (why did I pick a picket fence to perch on?)--somebody needs to give me a good shove--but things are certainly getting very interesting!

Think is exactly how I feel.

I actually don't watch Idol and never said he should not be a judge. I happen to think they need to represent country since Carrie U is their biggest seller and the last country guy is popular. I said I hoped Adam didn't have to be on that panel next to him. I apologize if my opinions are expressed in a way that you feel is bullying but it's not in my nature to even feel bullied at all. So I assume that if someone presents a point of view that infers I'm somehow missing a logical hetero perspective, meant to change MY MIND on something - my counter point is a logical response . We are all a product of our experience and I welcome you on Queerty if you want to explore the reasons we feel as we do about something that otherwise simply sounds like "a song". There are many opposing views such as some members LOVE Kathy Griffin and others like me, don't. I recommend this thread about Warren Beaty's trans son, wherein the typical "trans-phobic" battles ensue. For example, someone posted: No. 17 · LittIe,Kiwi @tazz602: you, as a gay man, should actually listen more to other transpeople rather than tell them how they should feel about being trans. you’re gay. your experience is not theirs. Full story here: www.queerty.com/warren-beattys-trans-son-stephen-hits-the-interwebs-for-interview-20120720/#ixzz21eSYA6fIIt's all good, I take nothing personally especially on the internet. Never compares to real life. Like my last 5 same sex couple potential clients, who were universally afraid to disclose their relationship to me in fear that their damn dogs couldn't get a dog walker.

Thanks MWP--my tendency is to give people the benefit of the doubt before I become militant--believe me, I'm perfectly capable of getting riled up about issues of civil rights. I have family members in the LGBT community who have been fighting the good fight for decades. A milder approach is no less effective or heartfelt. We are all on the same team--we just have a different way of dealing with our opponents
