Queenbert press built Adam's reputation as a singer, performer and recording artist substantially. And the media weights were substantial. He also got a lot of press from Idol speculation. I do not think Adam is out of the "public awareness" although more would be better. Idol could give Adam a platform, but most Idol viewers are not going to buy Adam's music or attend a concert. Look at what happened on iTunes after he performed on Idol. WWFM sold a lot, nothing else really did, including Aftermath. I am skeptical that Idol = dramatically increased recorded music sales for Adam. Yes, Aerosmith's sales doubled after Steven was on the show. But that was because Idol's 50+ audience buys classic rock music. Look at what happened to JoLo -- her album just debuted at #20 with 12,000 units. The Voice judges have big sales but they were big before they were judges. >> For me, I would love him to get to co-headline with an artist with a similar audience. You're forgetting though that JLo has been selling a ton of singles. And she is not an album-seller (dance-type music), she fits more in the single-selling bucket at this point. I would say Idol definitely helped her single "On the floor" to take off. JLo is also touring very successfully right now. Not sure she could have done this, on the same scale, 2-3 years ago, without the fame and spotlight that Idol brought her. Do I think Adam would be ok WITHOUT Idol? ABSOLUTELY. Do I think getting on Idol would help Adam's sales, touring, and overall notoriety? YES. I think it would be hard to argue otherwise. I think there are more factors to her single hits than Idol... "On the Floor" was #1 in many countries outside the US, only #3 in the US. I credit the sales to 1. Pitbull 2. Hot Production 3. Club Play 4. Idol in US only. 5. Radio promo $$$ in US. Her next three singles have not matched the sales of OTF but were collaborations with Lil Wayne peak #41, [solo single charted #96], DA with Pitbull peak #17. Her latest single "Goin' In" from "Step Up Revolution" hasn't done much but the movie was just released. I have watched Idol for a long time and the huge audience can result in big hits BUT there are many cases where it does not. Look at Paula's two Idol era singles -- 2008 and 2009. "Dance Like There Is No Tomorrow" 2008 was Paula and Randy, and it peaked at #62 even with Idol + airplay. IF Adam's single sales had soared after all of his Idol performances, I would be on the Adam as judge = increased sales. Looking at the #92 iTunes peak for NCOE after the Idol performance (did not make digital sales chart). Adam singles performed on Idol..... WWFM -- April 14, 2010 -- significant Idol bump, heavy airplay prior Aftermath -- March 9, 2011 -- no Idol bump, no airplay, no promo NCOE -- May 17, 2012 -- modest bump, did not chart, modest promo and airplay. If Adam is on Idol and he gets a ton of radio airplay, then I think it will translate into sales. The Idol performance will activate the radio awareness and convert into sales. If Adam is on Idol and performs an amazing, got to be #1 song, like "Dynamite" or "Moves Like Jagger" or RITD, they he will get a bump. But a great performances of a good pop song that the Idol audience is not familiar with from radio or repetitive TV (commercials or promo spots or theme song use), usually does not sell that well. So if he wants to do original songs (not covers), he will still need radio and or TV repetitions for mass sales.

Bottom line is, Adam wants the Idol gig, so I want it for him. Being on TV 2 times a week for 5 months is not going to hurt sales.

I think Adam being a judge on Idol week after week could do nothing but greatly expand his fan base. He is just about the most charming person in the world and fascinatingly gorgeous. Many viewers would succumb to his charms. We are talking huge exposure to millions of people. Even if only 1% of Idol's hugh audience became fans, that would be about 200,000 people. From my point of view, Idol revived JLo's career in a big way. A coheadling tour would not even begin to expose Adam to the potential fans that Idol could. Cook coheadlined with Gavin DeGraw and I don't think it really helped his Album or single sales. To me, coheadling sort of give a message that you are not popular enough to headline on your own.

Adam would do a great job, it would be fun, the public would get to see more sides to his personality, but like you, the bottom line is that he would like to do it. If Adam is not the one, Brad Paisley might do a good job. He's really funny, irreverent about certain issues, and seemingly a nice guy. I have been totally out of touch with country music for a few years now, never was a big fan, but compared to some of the names being bandied about, BP is a good choice.

I can think of NOT ONE drawback of being on AI in any capacity...and the more the better. the reason I am hopeful is the remark in OK about getting back there - with the tour plans far in the future - the only explanation at the moment is AI... but of course, things can change on a dime...

I think Adam wants to be a judge because he knows how much it could build his fan base and fuel his sales both of which he knows he needs badly.
