Well, Adam said NCOE was what radio "showed the most interest in," which isn't any kind of ringing endorsement. One thing that seems pretty certain is that radio is not going to play a new single from Adam just on their own. There is going to have to be some kind of push; whether it is huge press from an Idol judging gig, major promo for the song from a commercial or movie trailer, a major TV show using it, a sports team or channel picking it up as some kind of anthem (if it's Trespassing), or whatever. Something needs to happen to get the song noticed first, then maybe radio will bite. Because I have no faith that RCA can, on it's own, get CHR stations to spin the song. And that's not really a knock on RCA. I think they have done all that they can---radio is making a statement (and not just with Adam) I agree; at this point there's no reason to love or hate rca. Most of us can agree that btikm was released in the weirdest way possible, but we don't know if they pushed it or not, and ditto with ncoe. Given that the first two singles failed, there is little reason to hope for much from rca, whether they pushed the first two or not. The third single will need major promotion on its own, and I love all the ideas you came up with. One thing in favor of Trespassing (and this is totally subjective, based on reactions of the people who have heard it) is that it's super easy to connect with, and makes an immediate impression. This is where its repetitiveness is a plus. You get the gist of the song in ten seconds flat, and if you enjoy it, there's more to come. I don't think either song failed, just because radio in America didn't play them much. Both did pretty well in the rest of the world. Never Close Our Eyes is still doing well in a number of countries. I just don't feel like giving our radio all the power to make or break a song. IMHO,Adam is an International artist.. one who I think will be famous for a a great many years. I just don't like the failure designation.

This is reality. Neither song did well in the US or the UK. The other major music markets are Japan, Germany, and France. I don't know how they sold in those countries; if you have some info on that, I'd love to look at it! I agree that it'd be great to see some commercial use of the song, so that its sales don't just depend on radio performance :D idol visibility would be great, too. Edit for Japan, from twitter: Trespassing #6 in Itunes Pop - Japan , FYE at # 52

BTIKM was never released in UK as an official single but a "buzz single" for free download; NCOE received substantial support from Capital FM but without Radio 1&2 which appears to be the determining factor for Pop success in UK, NCOE slid off the chart quickly, so did the album. The UK media buzz from Adam's early promo round was all about Cuckoo and Trespassing.
In Germany, BTIKM was, too, never officially released as a single but served as a movie title track, afterwards, physical CDs were released but didn't get serviced to the radio; NCOE has been playing a lot on German version of HAC format and moving up nicely on their mainstream chart recent weeks, but no signs of significant Pop play. And, it has not been officially released for purchase, yet. With a new single coming, IMO, might not happen at all.
As for France, I can't find any info about the album or singles release, all I have is the album release date. But, I'd venture out to say it was most likely a "soft release" just like FYE (he did the real promo and launch with the hit single WWFM during Paris tour stop).
Both BTIKM & NCOE reached #9 on Billboard Japan Hot 100, though, NCOE only managed to stay on the chart for 2 weeks. BTIKM was better received on the radio than NCOE. The album is currently spiking up again on iTunes & Amazon due to Adam's current promo, but honestly, he's a big popular fucking star in Asia, regardless!
NCOE is the only song that I often skip, it's a decent song and I'm sure if Bruno were to release it, it would become a hit cuz he's hot right now, like Katy Perry could release anything right now the radio would play it to death. But, while this song didn't connect with the masses in certain big/small markets, it has been doing better in other markets: Poland, Russia, Czech, Hungary, Greece, Serbia & New Zealand, etc. where the sales might be insignificant but many potential opportunities.
Now, off to enjoy more Adam in the news thread!

Maddie, thank you! I wish we had more info on sales in Japan. That is a huge market, and Adam is big there.

Amazon Japan Pop:
------TSP the US import #4
------TSP the Japan Edition #30
------TSP the Japan Limited Edition(CD/DVD) #47
------FYE #41
iTunes Japan:
------TSP #35 Overall & #7 Pop
------TSP (the song) #31 Pop
------NCOE #142 Pop
------BTIKM #160 Pop
------FYE(the album) #48 Pop
ETA: There're actually 2 small banners on the Pop page both lead to purchase the radio mix of NCOE which is not charting anywhere. What a waste of valuable ad space! I mean, I know there's no cover art for the song TSP, yet, but the album cover would do just fine.
ETA2: had to correct an error.

I like your ideas for various things that could push more radio play. I have been trying to think of ideas, but like your list better than mine. I doff my chapeau to you. What do you mean by (not just Adam). Are other RCA artists being shut out of radio play? A lot of people believe that radio is reluctant to play songs by any Idols except Kelly and Carrie. Even Daughtry is having problems (although his sound is dated and be making play less likely). Late commenting on this. What about P2? Radio is certainly playing him now after the Olympics & iTunes zoom to the top. Regarding Daughtry - I haven't listened to his album so I can't verify this, but the write-up in our paper prior to his Musikfest appearance described his album as more pop-electronic leaning than his prior 2 albums. Maybe someone here can verify (or not). If so, then his sound wouldn't be as dated.

Regrding P2, having a song at the top of iTunes (and for more than just a couple days) goes a long way in terms of convincing stations to spin.
