Virg, that timeline is EXACTLY what I had in mind. Thanks for putting it together It seems to me that there was a lot of early excitement---from Adam and a few other sources (Dean Piper)---which has maybe cooled in the past couple weeks. "Working on stuff" for September is an interesting way of putting it---this could be Idol, or this could be what you tell fans when there is really nothing to report at the moment. What I am finding interesting now is that a tour has basically been put on the back-burner. If there is indeed going to be a tour for Trespassing, why wait so long when there appears to be nothing on the schedule preventing it. It really is unusual for an artist to tour for an album almost a year after it's release unless there is some kind of reason for the hold-up. 1- The "stuff" - it can be either idol or something, it can't be nothing because if he has nothing to do in September, why doesn't he plan to go the New Zealand and some other Asian countries to promote the new single. These countries are located between Japan and Australia. It doesn't cost him a lot more if he does it between now and September. On the other hand NZ is on board with NCOE and Trespassing CD, he should take advantage of that and go there to push the next single there. There must be something in Sept that holds him back from doing that. In addition, according to this interview in June, Adam is planning to go to Oz in late Summer (3-4 months from June which is Sept or Oct), but now the visit to Oz is moved forward to Aug, making Sept calendar clear. Why???? 2- Trespassing tour has always been scheduled for 2013. everybody is speculating that a tour doesn't start in Winter, so it must start around Spring-Summer 2013. If Adam gets the AI gig, the tour can start in June which is Summer, perfect, and not a lot of delay.

I think they might coordinate the single annoucement with the Idol announcement whether he gets the job or not. If he gets the judging spot, then the press provides the perfect launch pad for the single being announced. If he doesn't get the job, then the single announcement could be looked at as some kind of positive "distraction" for potentially very disappointed Adam fans. Bullsfan, I think you totally nailed it. Tbh, I used to wince when I read your posts, but now that I've adopted a more "philosophical" and perhaps slightly more detached view, I have come to appreciate the reality check you provide. I think this totally is about providing a distraction. The "where did it go?" comment from Adam was a way to keep the buzz going, even if, truthfully, the buzz had ebbed. He was getting a lot of good press out of it. But I'm not worried about the 2013 date for tour. That was always the plan, even before they knew whether any songs would hit. ETA and totally OT: I heard a piece on NPR on OnPoint with the author of a new bibliography of Bowie. Fascinating. It also has musicians (Earl Slick) that played with him. It really is an astonishing story of desperately poor boy living with a mother with severe mental problems and a half brother who had, ultimately, schizophrenia, and how Bowie was able be so incredibly fearless and inventive. Anyway, it's here: you can either d/l or play directly. I think you'll realize why Bowie is such an inspiration to Adam. Oh, and it also mentions that he has totally withdrawn from public life and suggested that is likely to be permanent. onpoint.wbur.org/2012/08/10/david-bowie

I also read somewhere about the "2 weeks" thing. When Adam said the new single would be announced "soon, in a week or so", I found it fit perfectly with the "2 weeks" timeline. I was expecting to hear about the idol or single last week. Then some one said that "no news during the Olympics as no one would pay attention to news then". At the same time Adam said that he couldn't announce the single because of the unfinished artwork. Let see if anything happens this week. But isn't it weird that Adam couldn't announce the single before he went to Japan. Isn't it a waste of a trip that he is there in Japan, he knows what the new single is but he can't officially promote it. I don't believe the delay of the announcement is because of the artwork. If he still has to delay the announcement, he will not be able to promote it while in Oz, either. The bold part above describes Adam so well I think they might coordinate the single annoucement with the Idol announcement whether he gets the job or not. If he gets the judging spot, then the press provides the perfect launch pad for the single being announced. If he doesn't get the job, then the single announcement could be looked at as some kind of positive "distraction" for potentially very disappointed Adam fans. I think that only very core Adam fans are following the Idol saga -- and there are a lot of Adam fans who do not want him to get Idol. They want him to focus on his music and tour. Some Adam fans will be happy either way (that includes me). Like Queen, Idol is not essential to Adam, but can be leveraged. I hope they stage the next single to drive Holiday season sales -- with a goal of moving it up the chart somewhat slowly to peak in November-early December. *** Regarding the Billboard 200 -- Trespassing continues to sell 2,000 units a week in the US -- that is enough to keep it in stores and that is what matters. It would only take 500 units a week for it to reenter the Billboard 200 -- and a single with radio support could do that. Touring could also do that. My money is on touring + local radio promotion. That is what kept FYE selling and on the BB200 for 51 weeks.

I don't know how good a distraction a new single would be. The last two singles brought a lot of angst because the sales were poor and radio did not play. Don't get me wrong, I am happy and also surprised he is releasing a new single, but I am also very nervous and not as optimistic as I would like to be.

Both of Adam's TRES singles got moderate radio support:
BTIKM peaked at #18 on Adult Pop Radio (basically HAC) NCOE peaked at #35 on Adult Pop Radio (basically HAC)
The good news is that radio stations are willing to play his music -- they just need something the audience wants to hear. (With PeopleMeters, they no longer need to guess).

soaked, I consider the 3rd week of August "late summer." You don't? He particularly mentioned in 3-4 months (from June), which means Sept-Oct. My guess is as he would definitely go to Japan for Summer Sonic, the most economic plan is to make that the Asia/Australia promo tour spanning from Aug to Sept or maybe till Oct, with the last visit being Oz. But as something is coming up in Sept, he can only go to Oz b/c Oz is the second biggest market in that region behind Japan. So all I want to say is there must be something going on in Sept, we can't say there is nothing.
