I hope this is not too "negative", but I have to say that I am a bit bothered by Adam doing this MATINEE show. Yes, I understand that it is another of DMG's attempt to promote Adam to a gay audience. But my concern is that DMG seems to be promoting Adam as a "gay entertainer" and that will not only limit Adam's appeal to the mainstream, but will actually limit Adam's appeal to the gay male audience. Last Thursday, I tuned in to "Derek and Romaine", the evening show on OUT-Q on Sirius. There was a discussion going on about why gay men were not more supportive of gay male performers. Adam's name was a part of the discussion. If someone heard more of the show, perhaps they can fill me in. But one key statement by Derek is relevant here. He said gay men do not accept someone who is just on the cover of The Advocate, they will support someone only after that someone is on the cover of TIME. In other words, if a gay artist can't sell himself to the mainstream, don't look for gay people to support him. I wanted to write to Derek and say that Adam is pretty much accepted as a mainstream performer in most of the world. It is only in America that major success alludes him, and I believe that is because of homophobia. But I am waiting to get filled in on what the total discussion was (as I only heard a few sentences). We do not know if this was DMG's idea or Adam's. But I really believe no one makes Adam do what he does not want to do. In the US, the gay community is very important in the club music world and the influence goes well beyond direct buying power which is huge. If Gaga or Katy Perry was playing at this event, wouldn't we just think it was a killer event (some would post about why Adam was not there) and then we would move on? The anti-gay divide in American is around 60 year olds right now and I really do not think most people over 60 are racing to purchase electro-dance pop music. Younger people for the most part do not care.

That makes me sad, heathcliff. I don't mind saying, his answer really doesn't make sense. BTW, what out gay man has been on the cover of TIME? NPH is the standard bearer. He hasn't been, but he *could* be. But he hasn't. So therefore, no gay celebrity gets their support :-/

Major entertainers do circuit party gigs. I was just googling around, and saw that Mary J. Blige just did the big White Party in Palm Springs this past April, and I'm sure there are others. It just becomes a little dicey when its an actual openly gay male mainstream singer (of which Adam is the only one) doing these kinds of gigs.
I do believe though that Adam does need to get his music into the clubs (gray and otherwise), especially with the reception he has gotten on the Radio.

He hasn't been, but he *could* be. Well, that doesn't bode well for the fight for gay equality. Way back in the day, I don't recall that blacks waited to support black artists based on whether or not those artists had mainstream acceptance. Further, the entire comment is just mind boggling. If one is waiting for a gay person to be on the cover of Time, one might as well say I am waiting for the man to tell me how to think. I hope this is not representative of the thought process of most gay men. If it is, then they need to grow a pair.

But I am waiting to get filled in on what the total discussion was (as I only heard a few sentences). all I can say is: SAD.... not supporting their own is not good for any minority... honestly - I have the same reaction as you, i.e. I am concerned that Adam is mostly exposed to gay audiences and not really exposed to mainstream audiences... but this is the case of "more mainstream" is needed as opposed to "less gay" exposure .... I think Adam is more often exposed to mainstream audiences which is why he is surprised to see men in the audience. Think about some current shows like CM or the big radio shows. mainstream, or GNL mainstream. The only other really exclusively non mainstream show that I can think of besides this new one on Sat. was the one a few years ago in OZ with the famous cod piece. If he is on Idol, that will be about as mainstream as one can get.

Last year, they did 8 cities in 6 weeks. Here is the schedule: 8/17 & 18 8/30 & 31 9/2 & 3 Big gap here 9/24 & 25 9/28 & 29 10/1 & 2 10/5 & 6 10/9 & 10 This year they have 7 cities and we know they have to be done by 10/13, at the latest, so that Minaj can get to Paris for her 10/14 show. If they announce the week of 9/12 that would only give them 4 weeks to do the auditions. I would think that next week would be the latest they could announce, so that they could start by the week of 9/12. It is interesting that Shirley specifically said 9/12. That is not a Monday. It is the day XF Premieres. This year's cities are: Los Angeles, San Antonio, Charlotte, Newark, Chicago, NOLA, OK City If they do 2 a week plus LA (the big announcement city) they can start on 9.12. IF they unveil the judges week of 9/12 in LA at the LA judging event. then do 9/17 OK + San Antonio, 9/24 NOLA + Charlotte, 10/1 Newark + Chicago. 4 weeks. Done by 10/5. Two a week for four consecutive weeks? I don't think they have ever done that, at least not in the past five years.
