I need to modify my comment. I do believe Adam is a major success, but not a MAJOR success. Even that silly GRAMMY poll leaves off his name. He just doesn't seem to get his due. I have the same concerns that you do. When I read your previous post, it hit me in the stomach hard. I hope with all my might that the label is not just pushing Adam towards the gay box only. He is a mainstream artist who is gay and I pray that they realize this. What evidence do we have that they dont see this? This is the first gay club event that Adam has done here. He's done a multitude of one-offs in casinos and other locales that were mainstream. Yes, he did G A Y in London, but many many mainstream acts perform there. I actually think its a good thing that Adam do this, it is meant to expose him to a new audience and I believe that the gay community deserves to get to see him in their environment as much as anyone else. TBH, it seems contradictory to be upset the gay community doesn't accept him (which I believe is exaggerated), yet be concerned that he's doing this type of event.

Urban also has judging experience from The Voice Australia. I watched the entire season and he was the most accessible judge on the panel, IMO.
Keith Urban has done pretty well for himself over the years: Of his 33 solo singles, 27 were released to US and Canadian radio. He has scored 14 #1 singles in the US, including his guest appearance on Brad Paisley's single "Start a Band". "Once in a Lifetime" is his highest-debuting single on the US Hot Country Songs chart, entering at #17. "You'll Think of Me" and "Making Memories of Us" were also hits on the Adult Contemporary chart, at #2 and #5, respectively. As far as not being known in Australia: Every one of Keith's albums has gone at least Platinum in Australia. How is he not known in that country? No one said Keith Urban is not famous or a star -- the comment that I responded to was that Keith Urban is a much bigger star than Bran Paisley. And that is not the case. Country charts: Keith has 14 #1 hits, Brad has 17 #1 hits including a record 10 in a row. Brad is playing the biggest arenas and the Hollywood Bowl; Keith Urban just played the BankcorpSouth Arena in Tupelo MS and is playing the Niagara Falls Casino tonight. No knock on Tupelo, it is my adopted home town but it is not LA, and BCS Arena is not the Hollywood Bowl.

Also, all of Urban's albums, before this last one, sold platinum or multi-platinum in Canada and the US. His last album was gold in the US and Canada and platinum in Australia. It also looks like KU has four Grammys awards. Not too shabby! Here is an interview with Keith in GQ Oz that gives some perspective on his career: www.gq.com.au/life/people/keith+urban,18675 Quote "“The best thing about it has been the chance for people in Australia to get to know me,” says Urban, in the amiable purr that’s won him so many hearts. “My music doesn’t really get played here despite it having a lot of appeal elsewhere, so I’ve found myself without an outlet for my songs because of various narrow stereotypes and perceptions about me. That’s been a challenge..." How does relate to Adam - Keith is only Country artist who's music I have on my ipod, Adam is the only male pop artist who's music I have on my ipod. (yep reaching but is a good article).

I hope this is not too "negative", but I have to say that I am a bit bothered by Adam doing this MATINEE show. Yes, I understand that it is another of DMG's attempt to promote Adam to a gay audience. But my concern is that DMG seems to be promoting Adam as a "gay entertainer" and that will not only limit Adam's appeal to the mainstream, but will actually limit Adam's appeal to the gay male audience. Last Thursday, I tuned in to "Derek and Romaine", the evening show on OUT-Q on Sirius. There was a discussion going on about why gay men were not more supportive of gay male performers. Adam's name was a part of the discussion. If someone heard more of the show, perhaps they can fill me in. But one key statement by Derek is relevant here. He said gay men do not accept someone who is just on the cover of The Advocate, they will support someone only after that someone is on the cover of TIME. In other words, if a gay artist can't sell himself to the mainstream, don't look for gay people to support him.I wanted to write to Derek and say that Adam is pretty much accepted as a mainstream performer in most of the world. It is only in America that major success alludes him, and I believe that is because of homophobia. But I am waiting to get filled in on what the total discussion was (as I only heard a few sentences).
Aside from this particular sad reality of gay culture and mindset, aren't gays naturally more drawn to DIVAs than DIVOs? I have a couple of gay friends that are uber conservative (they're scared of Adam) then a few are ultra liberal (they worship Adam), but they all love Gaga.
I do get a feeling that this might be a last minute booking for Adam, though. A well paid gig, for sure, and Adam gets to have his FUN and his music heard --- a win-win!

I saw a post on MJs about Nick Jonas being a mentor for Demi Levoto's group on XFactor. Don't know as MJs says if this is a consolation prize or a test run.
Hopefully he'll be as scintillating in his critiques/advice as Joe was--which is to say, not at all!

Didn't say anything about who was the "biggest star"! Don't really care, but as far as country stars, he seems to be fairly well known with his platinum albums and 14 number ones! KU will probably appeal to the country music loving demo and most people find him pretty easy on the eyes. Is Urban a done deal now?

Okay, since we're talking about KU, I got to confess I'm not a fan of country music but I do like some of his songs, especially "I Told You So"; even his band is not your typical country band, got a bit of pop/rock edge to it.
Oh, tigerlily, upthread you commented on Adam's gay rave gig as "a new development and....interesting, for several reasons", are you thinking about the same thing as I am??
