That's not true. They get lots of very talented people auditioning, thousands. It's just that they are casting a show and they pick and choose who they put through, even at the first level of the arena auditions. I have a friend who auditioned and she said there was no rhyme or reason, that she could tell, to who made it to the next round. Adam even stated he wasn't sure if he would get through because at Hollywood week, there was another guy similar to him. So, he was never sure. IMO, the past 2 years have beeen filled with amazing talent. No one as great as Adam, but he is one of kind. I don't think the best person has won, either year, but to say there was little talent is doing a great injustice to these kids. Seems I chose the wrong words. By "better talent" I meant more experienced talent. All of the contestants that have made it though are really good singers. But few have the stage presence or presentation skills to keep a fickle public wowed for very long. It was a novel idea to use very inexperienced contestants when Idol first started, but now people are wanting more, especially now that there are a number of other singing contests on TV. Idol has gotten a lot of flack for being a glorified "karaoke" contest which makes it harder for people coming off the show to make it in the business. Bringing in some more experienced talent could help change this impression and add more spice to the show. But with the current contractual rules, this is not as likely to happen. And yet having contestants that are having their "last chance" is the main criticism The Voice gets. I'll bet XF and The Voice have similar contracts to Idol. Oh, and with Idol any contestant that doesn't get signed by "the" label, ends their contract with Idol around mid August. It just happened to last seasons contestants and 2 tweeted about it! So if RCA had not signed Adam, he would have been free around mid August.

We who are women are very lucky to be so much less restricted in our fashion choices and I think it is a good thing that restrictions placed on men are lessening sloooooowwwwwlllllyyyy.... really? I haven't noticed any lessening in the mainstream, every day look...I am not talking "artsy" circles - these have always been out there.. Adam lives in that world, so for him it's not a big deal...but "on the street" - - no change IMO....same boring stuff... (which is OK with me actually - I find the fashion world to be pretentious and inconsequential...except it kills too many girls and women by imposing the ugly and impossible body image - but that's another topic altogether) I don't know about that nica...it is just that the changes really are slow as molasses in January... Men with hilights and colour are common everywhere on the street now, or at least the streets I am around.... I used to have to open the shop on a special day to do men years ago....or promise they would have the salon to themselves... Lots of men regularly carry some form of manbag...perhaps not in small middle America but in most urban centres...it has to start somewhere...but these cities certainly qualify as mainstream I think... if we describe mainstream as 'those that don't' do these things, we are dealing with a logical fallacy... Men often wear fashion scarves and wrap them artfully about their neck... Men often wear fashion jeans with rips and embellishments... I regularly see more use of colour...maybe I am just seeing what I want to see...that happens....perhaps I just don't notice the ordinary as it is so...ordinary...
