[/IMG] Most of us who wanted AI for Adam, wanted it for the exposure. If Adam were on that panel, we would be totally pissed now at this lousy PR for him. People were hoping that such an idol announcement would have given Trespassing a boost. Yeah right, a tweet from Nigel would push Trespassing up the charts. Sure. I have always kept my ear on the buzz around idol over the years, but not usually watched (except season 1). Listening to the buzz made me find Adam, it also would make me find any other new artist to come along, if idol or any of the other shows happen to have one on board. But for the music business itself and the kids that are growing up now, I am very saddened by the utter incompetence that seems to be running things behind the scenes. The music industry in its present form does not have budgets anymore to finance major A&R efforts. Hence, the internet and TV need to do most of that discovery work for the record labels. Idol was a well functioning branch of this wider A&R industry and has over the last few years turned into a farce. And it looks like the present, new executive and producer team is a clusterfuck of incompetence in so many ways that it is not even funny. I am slightly unclear whether Nigel is part of that clusterfuck or whether he is the public spokesperson for that behind the scenes management and is now used and hung out to dry himself. Adam is off that sinking Titanic and that is good, but I am sad to watch the ship sink and many opportunities for him and lots of others lost.
Since you haven't watched Idol since season 1, you may not realize that it is still the number one (non-sports) show in the US and it is shown in many other countries across the world. If it makes everyone feel better to believe that Idol is a sinking ship, go ahead, but that is not accurate. It still averages more viewers than any other show on TV and more than any of the other singing contests. In the past two years, it has produced a winner that has sold well over a million albums and another one who is coming up on two million sold for his first single. His song is everywhere at the moment and he just appeared on the highest rated Regis and Kelly show (that is now something else?) and appeared on Ellen with the First Lady and Bieber. His song has been in the top 10 on iTunes for six weeks now. AI's new record label it is associated with has done an excellent job in the past two years supporting the top two thus far. This is the same basic way they announced the new judges two years ago and it was a much bigger deal then. The season was still a success. The two new judges benefited greatly from the judging opportunity, and the winner and runner up were very successful and still have their contracts. Seven of the top 10 were signed that year. The show helped 70% of their contestants get a record contract of some kind after the tour ended. I wouldn't refer to this set up as incompetent or a farce.

I don't give a shit about AI anymore. I'll watch when Adams on. However, I do care about Adam and Trespassing. I wish RCA would get of their respective ASS and promote Trespassing. Christ, it's been out since May!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kamar.. I may not like their decisions and I don't watch the show anymore but I'm not going so far to say the show is stupid. I will be forever greatful for Idol, because without Idol, Adam would still be strugle trying to make it in LA. He tried to make it for 10years in LA and not until Idol everybody knows him and you know him and all his fans around the world know that Adam Lambert is exist. So again, I will never ever say AI is a stupid show. Adam would have done it one way or the other . As I said before , Adam is here because of his talent . Not Idol . Look at Kris Allen . Where is he ? Does anybody remember him ? He was on the same show , Won the show , But nothing . Again , Adam is here because of his talent . Sometimes it is very easy to diminish the barriers that Adam broke through. 1. For all the talk about he would have made it as a recording artist without Idol -- I do not think Adam would have made it. We all know the list of first's Adam accomplished but the two big ones are FIRST openly gay US artist to get signed to a major label contract and FIRST openly gay artist to get radio airplay in the US. (Yes, there are asterisks for artists who came out late in their careers etc but you know what I mean. BUT even Boy George never came out until later.) 2. Even with Idol, Adam has not had an easy time. The world, not just the US, is NOT a level playing field for gay artists. 3. Remember at Adam's Idol audition, Randy said, something like "I think the time is right for someone like you..." I am convinced he meant gay, and more specifically who was openly gay in his performance style and person. >> Please don't go down the rabbit hole of the Gay Faire being signed or Elton John getting airplay in the 90's. You know what I mean -- in 2009 >> In 2009, when Adam was on Idol, US Radio would not play Sam Sparro's #2 UK Hit Song "Black & Gold". It was relegated to the gay ghetto -- clubs. >> Adam will win through in the end -- and he has opened up a path for other gay artists and celebrities. He did not do it alone but he played a big role. >> Most importantly, he did it on Idol -- a show that is popular with millions of tweens and teens. I know he has helped a few kids I know be brave and true and proud. >> Adam has gotten here and stayed nice. His patience and grace and class + unrelenting push to be true to himself changed the hearts and mind of many. On the Idol thing -- I am very pleased that a gay artist was proposed as a judge and that was not even an issue for most people. We have come a long way.

What an annoyingly predictable outcome after all the speculation. Disappointing in the short term but Adam's future is bright with opportunity and potential in any case.. Love Slezak's 'what do we want from them' headline re Minaj and Urban, lol, and chunkey's 'no bs in his bag' reason for no idol. ETA: Great post, Q3

All I need now is a sign that RCA is going to put some muscle behind the single. I can get over Idol, I just need to know that Trespassing isn't going to get lost this fall with all the new releases that are coming. I'll take anything---an add date, some promo scheduled, anything. Come on RCA! This is where I'm at! I've expected that Adam wasn't getting the job for a few weeks, as all the signs were pointing in that direction. We now know that Adam smiles because...he is a smiley person. Adam is happy...because he is a happy person. Adam uses winky faces on tweets...because he likes that particular emoticon. THANK GOD IT IS OVER!!! Now, my question is: what is the "secret stuff" that was planned in September? Surely it wasn't PR and Fashion Week? ??? I'm ready to see something moving with the next single!!!

LOL sorry... no one does anything for free! Its an opportunity cost situation. If he is sitting judging, then he is not out making money. So, no IMO he wouldn't do it for free. I agree that it's opportunity/cost, but cost for a celebrity is not only the dollar sign. The exposure idol would have brought Adam was priceless, needed right now. Demi did X-Factor for $1 million, and now has a #1 song. That #1 and the exposure outweighs the $1 million she was paid. I doubt that Adam held up the proceedings because he wanted a higher salary or wanted out because he felt idol was a sinking ship. Something else happened. Demi had the #1 song POP RADIO AIRPLAY SONG before she did X-Factor. And it was headed there before it was even announced that she would do X-Factor. (It peaked at #16 on the BB chart.) >> Currently it is #3 on the Pop airplay chart and headed down. #31 on iTunes and falling there too. IMO X-Factor hired an 20 year old judge because she was on track to have the #1 song and is very, very popular with young women.
