FYI
PECO just called in our office as we will have a conference call to surrounding township offices
This is the worst storm on record. THey said there are 600,000 residents w/0 power.
Fortunately where I am, Chester Co which usually gets hit hard, was spared the worse. Other counties this time around were hit.
I heard W. Va has close to 20" of snow?!!! and they are still getting high winds so we are lucky
I have a leak in the roof but not a lot of damage inside so I feel lucky AND my koi are still in the pond and not swimming in a downtown stream! LOL
BUT I GOT TO WATCH LIVE STREAM LAST NIGHT SO I don't care that the ground is saturated :4OMG:

Hope everyone is staying safe. I live in southeast Texas right on the Gulf and have been through 2 major hurricanes in the past 7 years, first Rita, which came right after Katrina. Most of the damage during that storm was wind, not water. We were evacuated for 2 weeks. I ended up in Houston at a family members home. I had first evacuated up to our lakes area, but the storm took an unexpected turn and came right through that area. When it was over, we had over 100 degree temperatures with no electricity. My little dog at the time was really old, about 15 years old and I thought she was going to die from the heat so we ended up going to Houston when the roads were cleared.
Then a few years ago we were hit by Ike. The little town I grew up in was totally under water, only 14 homes in a city of 10,000 did not get water in them. Also, not just a little water, I'm talking 8 feet on down. My cousin and her husband just finished rebuilding and got out of their FEMA trailer this year. They had no insurance and FEMA provided nothing for them. Some people got a lot of money and some got nothing, I don't even understand how all that works.
Anyway, I really feel for those in Sandy's path, not just during the storm, but what comes after. When we got back from "hurrication", which is what my daughter called it, the whole landscape here was changed. With Rita I don't think there was a single sign or Billboard still intact. The street my mother lived on has never looked the same, it wiped out all the trees. After Ike, I only drove through Bridge City (the city I grew up in) once, because I couldn't stop crying. There wasn't a street that I didn't know someone on and everyone lost it all. A lot of people didn't rebuild they just moved away, it was so sad. The real work will be in the coming weeks, months and even years to repair everything. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, hang in there!

Sorry I didn't check in earlier. All is okay here. Heavy winds made the house shake but thankfully caused no damage. I appreciate this wonderful community's concerns!

[smiles] We're ok here outside Washington DC. Wind damage, but not horrible. And we have.....POWER! Roads are mostly clear now too, as long as you avoid the still-flooded ones. Hubby just took the cabin-crazed kid to a BurgerKing with an indoor playground. Apparently LOTS of other parents had the same idea : We got both e-mails and text saying that school was back in session tomorrow, and that kids were expected to be there on time. [grins wryly] Yay!! Was going to have to break out the tranquilizer gun otherwise.

Just checking in from NJ. I'm still without power. Had some siding blow off the house. No flooding in my basement yet but if we don't get power soon, my battery backup on the pump will die. I keep going to my car to charge my phone and iPad. iPad takes forever so I guess I'll be out of juice in about another 10 minutes.
My company didn't fare as well. Offices and warehouse are flooded. Don't know when we'll be able to go back.
I hope everyone in the storm's path is safe. Thanks for this thread, I was worried about everyone.

Great post, lulu1265. Such a relief to hear everyone is OK. Life will change in so many ways large and small because of this storm.
I am still waiting to hear from my sister about her house. From the pictures I've seen of her area it looks like the flooding was pretty bad. :(

So happy to read all the reports from those who've checked in.
Michigan got some high winds, enough that I lost power for about 8 hours.
I haven't been out, but my son went to get us some coffee and said he didn't see much but a few downed tree limbs.
