Genetics are a tricky thing, and difficult to understand. The way we are is not only determined by our genes, the environment plays a big, big part. Take Diabetes, for instance. If Diabetes runs in your family, it's probable that you'll get it when you're older, it has a genetic component. But if you lead a healthy life, maybe you won't get it. Take identical twins. If you separate them from birth and you let them grow up in different environments, then they will end up being REALLY different, even if they have the exact same genes.
So what makes a person gay/lesbian/bisexual/whatever? Well, who the fuck knows? Maybe it's as simple as human diversity. I've studied in a very, VERY religious college. I've heard horrible things about homosexuality from my professors. They've tried to teach me that it's a disease, that it can (and must) be cured. I had a professor who told us he had cured gay people. So I'm very, VERY tired of dangerous theories and wild guesses. In the case of this study, if you have a theory give me scientific facts, not guesses based on Mathemathics. : Glampoon, all my gay friends have had proper father figures growing up. Surprisingly, identical twins reared apart--even in very different situations--are amazingly alike. I read a book about the subject once that was really interesting. In a study of IQs, it was found that the closest correlation between IQs of two individuals existed between identical twins reared together. The second closest correlation was identical twins reared apart, followed by non-identical siblings reared together, then non-identical siblings reared apart, then non-related people reared together (as in adopted siblings), and non-related people reared apart. So the IQs of identical twins who grew up not knowing each other even existed was more alike than non-twin siblings reared in the same house by the same parents! Even the tendency to giggle appears to have a genetic component!
For the life of me I can't remember the title of the book--it was over thirty years ago that I read it--but there's a more recent book called "Born Together--Reared Apart" that covers the same subject and is based on a study in Minnesota.
I'm not bringing this up to argue with you; I just find the subject utterly fascinating!

Forgot to answer the Ellie Goulding question. Basically, Interscope resurrected her from the dead!! Her single came out here around the same time as BTIKM. It didn't get as high as BTIKM on the HAC charts and was dropping fast as BTIKM was climbing! It went "recurrent" because it had been losing spins fast and was on the charts for the amount of time they give a song before they pull it. Went recurrent on a Sunday. Then 2 days later, there it is back on the HAC chart. The number watchers were all going "HUH??!!!" Lo and behold, it suddenly shows up on the Pop charts from out of NOWHERE!!!!!! Goes into power rotation on several big stations and the rest is history! Big hit for her on radiio and sales!! No one knows what Interscope pulled (or why,) but whatever it was, it was a good one! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Well...it would nice if Adam's management knew what Interscope did so they could work it for Adam.

Still catching up, so I might have missed many things, but do we have any update about Adam coming to Vietnam in January at all, like what he is going to do there, what the dates might be... ?

I don't think he'll do less writing because has proven to be an excellent writer. The writing isn't the problem with Trespassing's commercialbility (is that a word.) For the first 2 singles it was choice and produciton. Please, RCA, keep Dr Luke away from the 3rd album...... far, far away!! Katycake, to answer your question, it would be very difficult to get radio to play a 4th single after they did not like the first 3. Cuckoo has always been the perfect Pop radio single and I don't even think they'd latch onto that one now, unless something extraordinary happened. Thanks for answering, but I truelly don't get it - if the first 2 or 3 singles didn't succeed, why would radio care if the next one is off of another album or the same one? Do they even follow such things? Isn't it about the song itself? If you have proven yourself like Bruno and Katy, etc. then radio will play anything with your name attached to it, but Adam hasn't reached that kind of level, yet. So, it really all comes down to the songs and promo ($$$ and behind the scenes stuff, and TV spot, Olympic production , etc. etc.) and some luck!

Did the album do well internationally? I don't remember it getting any gold or platinum certifications anywhere. :( I sure hope it did.
TSP sold 307,000 copies worldwide as of last week, per Media Traffic. And, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, TSP is not a commercially successful album as FYE. It's sold enough to well cover the project expenses and possibly made some changes for RCA as well, but miles, miles away from FYE's success. So far, TSP has not been officially certified gold in any country, although pretty close to in a couple (South Africa comes to mind).
But then, it's all part of the game and the ride....
You don’t need to sugarcoat it, bb, it’s the truth. Try as I might, I cannot make myself care enough about the fact, from the important standpoints such as the album’s quality and my relation to it as a fan. Less relevantly, I will be sorry if he doesn’t tour in the US, but I don’t see why he wouldn’t and I definitely didn’t gather that from the LP interview. As far as the other repercussions are concerned, if I can vaguely think of any, I say Pft! What I did gather though is him gentlemanly pointing out that the album did have commercial success. And that the singles have had radio play internationally. That’s not called making lemonade, those are the facts. There is not a single thing to be sorry for regarding Trespassing. Those songs are here to stay with their appreciative consumers and I am not buying for one second that story about people not knowing, or the lack of exposure. At this time and age, it is ridiculous. The Catch 22 radio play/commercial success/exposure conundrum is not something to beat one’s head about. Whether one of Adam’s songs gets sucked into their warp is beyond Adam. It’s borderline metaphysical. I will be very, very sorry if he doesn’t get involved in the songwriting process for the next album because I would say that he is mighty talented that way. But if he doesn’t, it will be due to one fact and one fact only: the possible lack of inspiration ( which I highly doubt) and being offered songs from other authors that he likes. Definitely not because he lives in the illusion that there is a hit album recipe he failed to apply on TP – he is way smarter than that. If I had to guess, I’d say he’ll be much more relaxed for this one, in a sense that he has told stories he had to tell on TP and kind of got them out of the way… I’d say we’re in store for more fun, more carefree songs, because TP is a very serious album, on the whole, dealing with serious issues. Maybe something more contemporary, although I'm not sure what that means. I'm sure RCA does have some ideas what Adam should do next. I'm also sure Adam is going to do what HE wants to do next, diplomatically so:)))

It is why Apple comes out with a new product every 6 months or so, why crocs are now a novelty shoe and why as much as we love Tresspassing it is not going to magically reenter the BB top 10 on the back of Cuckoo or any other song from it being released. If I was at RCA and was to take a lesson from Tresspassing it would be to never let Dr Luke anywhere near a first single off any future Adam Album #kissofdeath ;D ;D

IMO, her homeland success had nothing to do with it, she was just extremely lucky getting to ride the coattail of "British Invasion" and her label's ability to strike a deal of the year! Her album hasn't been doing too well in the US, so far sold about 65k or 85k (not sure which without checking my posts in the numbers thread).
