Try as I might, I cannot make myself care enough about the fact, from the important standpoints such as the album’s quality and my relation to it as a fan. Less relevantly, I will be sorry if he doesn’t tour in the US, but I don’t see why he wouldn’t and I definitely didn’t gather that from the LP interview. As far as the other repercussions are concerned, if I can vaguely think of any, I say Pft! What I did gather though is him gentlemanly pointing out that the album did have commercial success. And that the singles have had radio play internationally. That’s not called making lemonade, those are the facts. There is not a single thing to be sorry for regarding Trespassing. Those songs are here to stay with their appreciative consumers and I am not buying for one second that story about people not knowing, or the lack of exposure. At this time and age, it is ridiculous. The Catch 22 radio play/commercial success/exposure conundrum is not something to beat one’s head about. Whether one of Adam’s songs gets sucked into their warp is beyond Adam. It’s borderline metaphysical. I will be very, very sorry if he doesn’t get involved in the songwriting process for the next album because I would say that he is mighty talented that way. But if he doesn’t, it will be due to one fact and one fact only: the possible lack of inspiration ( which I highly doubt) and being offered songs from other authors that he likes. Definitely not because he lives in the illusion that there is a hit album recipe he failed to apply on TP – he is way smarter than that. If I had to guess, I’d say he’ll be much more relaxed for this one, in a sense that he has told stories he had to tell on TP and kind of got them out of the way… I’d say we’re in store for more fun, more carefree songs, because TP is a very serious album, on the whole, dealing with serious issues. Maybe something more contemporary, although I'm not sure what that means. I'm sure RCA does have some ideas what Adam should do next. I'm also sure Adam is going to do what HE wants to do next, diplomatically so:))) I´m hugging and gently caressing this post. Thank you!

Previous success doesn't always guarantee or help at all with current project. It all comes down to the songs and exposure!! FYE was a big commercial success and WWFM was a huge single but none of that gave TSP or any of the singles any advantages. Typically, after 2 singles fail to connect and take off, the 3rd one is pretty much gratuitous unless the label decides to pull off an "Ellie Goulding".
Adam is a great lyricist, it has nothing to do with his song writing ability but everything to do with the time frame and the approach &direction RCA&Adam wants it to go.
What did they do with Ellie Goulding? Ellie Goulding's "Lights" is a fluke. She has 5 singles that did not chart in the US but charted in the UK. (Only 4 released in the US.) Then they released #6 "Lights" -- which is now US 3x Platinum. It was not a hit in the UK or Europe, but was her first hit in the US and Canada -- after 15 months on the Billboard Hot 100 it peaked at #2 in August 2012, released in May 2011. The associated album peaked in the US at #21 her recent follow-up peaked at #9. Along the way, some unplanned things happened -- like ALupe Fiasco sampled the Bassnectar remix of "Lights" for his song "Lightwork". I don't think anyone planned what happened with "Lights" and it would be very, very hard to replicate. *** Previous album success is a great predictor of future success -- and Adam has two commercially successful albums. Trespassing is not as big as FYE but it is not a commercial failure. Having a big hit does not mean the album will sell well, and many high selling albums have no hit singles. Pop artists with a strong selling debut album and a less successful #2 album, like Adam, the #3 or #4 album is often commercially successful and artistically successful. *** Regarding the effect of being an Idol or Voice judge and sales -- it does not seem to help much.Look at Christina Aguilera...The Voice does not seem to have helped her album sales: Stripped (10/2002) #2 Back to Basics (8/2006) #1 Bionic (6/2010) peak #3 US sales > 300K <the Voice debuted April 26, 2011>Lotus (11/2012) peak #7; US week #1 73K her lowest debut week units ever. There are many other judge's albums and singles that have not sold -- Randy, Paula even JoLo who had a massive promo effort behind Love? could only sell around 350K units (album released in 2011 and promoted heavily on Idol, included #3 hit single with Pitbull). I believe that Maroon 5 and Aerosmith would have been successful with or without the lead singers being on The Voice/Idol. Setting aside the "judge effect", if a song is featured on either show, it often sells -- and the judges do get access to prime slots on these shows.

MTE, then why would they be wasting money on a new album, before trying all the options in this one? Because you can only sell the same thing so many times before people lose attention and interest. It is why Apple comes out with a new product every 6 months or so, why crocs are now a novelty shoe and why as much as we love Tresspassing it is not going to magically reenter the BB top 10 on the back of Cuckoo or any other song from it being released. If I was at RCA and was to take a lesson from Tresspassing it would be to never let Dr Luke anywhere near a first single off any future Adam Album #kissofdeath ;D ;D Bridgeymah, thank you!!! Later....

You don’t need to sugarcoat it, bb, it’s the truth. I can't tell which album any song is from, except for Adam songs. No matter how famous a song is, or how much I like it, I wouldn't be able to tell you which album it's from. And especially in Tp, each song is so different.

Can not use Christina as a comparison for a reality show judgship helping an artist. Christina is sooooo unlikeable. The Voice probably has actually hurt her! It pretty much confirmed all the rumors that she is a bitch, and not even an interesting bitch like Minaj!

Regarding Cuckoo -- it is the hidden pop hit on that album and I think in a world where many things can create a hit, there is always a chance. Five recent high selling tracks had odd paths.... fun "We Are Young" -- Glee feature, Superbowl commercial, big iTunes sales, finally played by US radio. P2 "Home" -- Idol coronation song, sales on iTunes, Olympic feature, more sales on iTunes, finally played by US radio. E. Goulding "Lights" -- the slowest rise on US Pop radio charts ever (excluding reissues and country cross-over tracks). "Gangman Style" -- YouTube mega hit, iTunes mega hit, finally played by radio. Carley "Call Me Maybe" -- released in Canada, heard on the radio by Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez who both Tweeted it to fans, iTunes sales, entered US Billboard 100 at #38 based on these tweets. (Long after the Twitter promo, she signed to Justin's label within Interscope for her second album.)
