I will be happy if you could PM me the reference to this story. As an Israeli, who spent time doing research in the one of the centers for genetic studies in Israel I'm sure I would have heard of it (these kind of stories are usually used as examples). So I will be interested to read this reference. PMed you.

Wonder if this is from the suits at RCA. When Bionic failed for Xtina, she got her gig with The Voice, and worked on a new album immediately, and she did not tour. Her new album has come out and it is not burning up the charts, but doing decently. I have read in several publications where assessments were made of how singers have fared due to their jusdging gigs. Of course Adam levine, Celo, and Sheldon Blake have faired well, but Xtina has not. I think it has a lot to do with her personality and image. Also they felt JLo did not fare well. So I think Adam has directives from the suits.Maybe so, but in regards to touring, I think they've scheduled some tour but the sales were not good so they have to cancel.I hope Adam and DMG will plan small number of tour in the US, not as many as GNT and I know he still can sell the seats.
Of course! it's the record label's place to decide on whether or not moving on to the next chapter or trying to stay on and squeeze some more out of the current project, not the artist, I mean, there might have been some input from the artist but not his shot to call!
And, just to be fair to Xtina, her last album, Bionic, has only sold a little over 300k in the US but overall 750,000 copies worldwide as of end of 2011.
adamme, not sure if you're referring to Xtina or Adam with your touring comment, but I don't recall Xtina actively planning a Bionic tour back in 2010 before or after the album release, as for Adam, IMO, touring or "non-touring" has always been in the cards, it's his ultimate livelihood !

mszue.... 'Shady' is about cruising a bar and it is sung by a gay man...... RCA was terrified by Trespassing (the song), there is no way in hell they would have released 'Shady' unfortunately.
Which brings me to my original reason for posting.
IMO, RCA has to dial down the fear and grow a pair when it comes to this next record. They need to release the best songs NOT the safest songs.

Adam's reference to new material and working on a new album reminds me of last cycle. In July and August 2010 he started talking about a new album planned for Spring 2011. At the time, the Europe and Asia Pacific GNT were in the formation stage and he said he was going to go to Europe in November-December and would work on the album there. As I recall, creative fan rumors had him meeting up with Bowie in London and working with Max Martin when he was in Sweden. Neither happened. I take all Adam time references with a hunk of salt. But I am certain RCA wants an album out sooner than later. They also probably want it to be more mainstream in terms of themes and direction. >> I would love them to record Adam singing on a stage and not in a studio. Perhaps they could that X plus that is just not in the studio recordings. (As long as they record the vocal without audience noise.) Regarding new direction -- he said the day after Idol that each album was going to be different. He said it many times since then. I can't imagine that he will not do any concerts in the US this summer. You have said this several times and for a long time I agreed, finding the too polished sound of the album somehow*... I've changed my mind, due to two incidents: 1. having concerts downloads available, audience noise and all ( I love it - listening to Capetowners raving on my way to work is surreal, SA in the middle of rural Serbia) and 2. a few Atopers, like Nationalglampoon, pointing out that some songs sound better on the album, like Shady, and me finally catching up with his point. Since that revelation, I like being able to enjoy the production perfection of the album ( which I for a long while referred to *as having sex with a condom - not my cuppa), especially when Adam explained the process of layering of the sound... TP songs are RICH in that way, and also being able to enjoy all the rawness and unfilteredness, the energy and power of the concerts. It's nice to have that option, to be able to choose. I love it how different they are and feel... But I do think TP catches all his factors ( it did take me a while to get there, the man takes a process, ha). So, different playlists, and I'm good to go! ( I'm more often opting for the perfection of the album, I have to say) I do not have a problem with Trespassing sounding too polished -- and Adam's vocals are much more respected by the producers vs. FYE. The gap I have is that the vocal recording is just nothing like the live experience. I have been to thousands of concerts. Partly because it was once my job, and partly because I love music, and mostly because I am old. And nothing in my experience prepared me for the first time I hear Adam live. And that was in an arena during the Idols Live tour. Not the optimal situation. I also really like Shady on the album and prefer the album version to the live YouTube versions. (The live experience is better than YT. And the YT videos are not pro audio recordings.) But what if Adam performed it live with Nile Rogers and Sam Sparro? No knock on Adam's band and backup singers but they there is no Nile on Sam on stage with Adam. You cannot easily replace Nile and Sam on that track. Plus, Shady is a very hard song to sing live -- particularly for someone singing a funk song like this is a concert set that is filled with pop-rock based songs. Adam moves across so many genres on Trespassing and FYE that I think we take it for granted that he can slide from one to the other. But what other artist does a funk track in the middle of a pop-electro dance set?

YES!! An artist with balls needs a label with balls, otherwise it doesn't work, and unfortunately we have the proof.

Ya know, when BTIKM first came out it was hard to find a bad comment about it (cue natllampoons raised hand) then when it didnt go so well it seemed everyone knew it wouldn't from the start. Then NCOE. Less loved the song but most thought it was very radio friendly. Now? Well....
I hate it when you guys do this BUT I'm going to join you this time. They should have listened to the British dj's and to us. Most people here called Cuckoo from the start. It was the obvious choice, and the wise theory on relatablity also works on this one IMO, especially with the teen market. Shady is my favorite but it would never had made it.

Would this be the right place to reveal that my husbnad is a twin that was raised in a separate household from his identical other half? They would have been perfect for a study!! Mszue, Shady is probably too retro for radio. If Bruno released it, radio would play it tho! : You know no one has mentioned one of the things that really fucked up radio this year and that was the British and teen invasion. Especially when the 2nd single came out. I feel like RCA missed Adam's window of opportunity with the first single and then all the teen crap hit and basically it was over. There is no male doing Pop like Adam now. Beiber is the closest we got and he has that teen audience. All the Pop guys beyond that age are either in a group or R&B leaning. It is what it is. I just think Adam can and should be very, very proud of putting out 2 well received albums, critically. Absolutely nothing to be sorry about. [/IMG]
But nobody is addressing my point. Dismissing the track that received the overwhelming...albeit small...fan votes for favourite makes no sense. I do not buy the notion that we are just old so can be disregarded! There are fans of all ages here....and fans of all ages buy music. Good grief, we are far more likely to BUY our choices than that precious target demographic of radio...but that is another issue. Ditto fye...the tracks that got arguably the loudest reaction on tour were Soaked and Fever....yet Fever was immediately dismissed as unplayable and Soaked never even got any discussion at all.
If Shady would be played were it Bruno's then [/IMG] [/IMG] . Niles has been all over the place lately....why not pushing this track?? Niles would love that. I bet Sam would too. Collaborations are the "in" thing.... sorry....just do not get this off hand dismissal of a great track...if we do not back up our own judgment, I suppose we have no right to expect anyone else to..... The largest cd of the last 2 years is hardly a typical 'radio friendly' cd...Adele's 21... OK...off my pulpit here....
I did adress your question. Shady is too retro for Adam to release to radio. It is more retro than Trespassing even. When did Shady get "fan favorite?" Do you mean here at ATop? Because that worldwide poll that was done right before NCOE was realesed had Trespassing and Cuckoo neck and neck. Honestly, it doesn't matter what we want as a single. We already have the album so we can't even purchase the single and have it count on i-Tunes! :-/ Shady isn't even the top 4 tracks DLed off the album at i-Tunes. Surprising, I knnow, because it is my favorite too.

Hi. Christina did have a tour planned in 2010 -- I know because I bought tickets to her show at Irvine Amphitheatre, which was subsequently cancelled along with the rest of the tour. At the time, Christina claimed that with the upcoming release of the film "Burlesque" and the need to do PR for the film, etc. she didn't have enough time to prepare the tour. However, some people speculated that the poor sales of Bionic and/or the tour were to blame.
