Good luck with your move, rihannsu! Moving is the hardest work there is. Hi, everyone! Time for check in again already. I got in my 5x of exercise this week, yay! I am a little bit sad because I have had a recurrence of nerve pain that plagued me last year. There is a pattern to this nerve pain. It started in my 20s, but there have been years at a time when I have been free of it. It seems to come on me when I am in a bad situation at work, and it primarily affects my arms -- which, since I am a writer, are my primary means of carrying out my work. It is as if my body is saying NO MORE. I realize I have to change my situation and am working on it. I go to a massage therapist every couple of months, and she says I have an extremely strong mind-body awareness. At times like these, I'm not sure whether that's good or bad. I did OK with my healthy eating. I have upgraded the quality of food that I eat all round, and am having fruit smoothies for breakfast once or twice a week. I did make the radish pickles. They turned out very ... pickle-y. Something off in the recipe there. Lots of salads. I have been trying to incorporate veggies in all kinds of things -- such as spinach in scrambled eggs, yum. Tonight I am making kale with onions. It is the first time I have actually cooked the kale for us instead of giving it to my bunny. Wish me luck. Looking forward to a new box of produce tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how it changes as we get into true spring. The other interesting thing was that the fitness "squadron" at work got to go on a tour of the oldest building on our campus, which used to be the state mental asylum. It has been open since 1860, and housed patients until the 1960s. It's never been remodeled, though there are offices in there now. It's in somewhat bad shape. It's pretty easy to imagine what it was like when patients were there. They had a few displays including a strait jacket. It was all fascinating, if sad, to see, and a very interesting little reward for trying to "get fit."

Check in day! I see people are getting tickets for San Diego to see Adam. Yeah! Wish it was in the cards for me, it seems like forever since I've seen him in concert.
Lost another 1 to 1.5 lbs. this week, in spite of a big fancy dinner party and a birthday lunch with friends (their birthday). So pretty good to still lose weight in spite of that. Am trying to be good but did have dessert and then compensate by being extra good the following day. Great to see others having success too! Sorry to hear about your nerve pain Juniemoon. As someone who has lots of little issues and regular visits to the physiotherapist, I can relate. Hope it goes away again.
The main course at the fancy dinner party actually had cooked kale as the fresh vegetable, which was nice and healthy!

It was all fascinating, if sad, to see, and a very interesting little reward for trying to "get fit." My hubby and I went to grad school in Indiana and we both did a practicum class with special needs students as an option class. One opportunity we had was to go to an "intitution" that housed all levels of special need children. Two students from our class worked together and were asigned to different areas. I was assigned to those who were transitionning to work/independent living. My husband and his buddy were assigned to a block that literally had out of control residents living in large cells. They washed them down with hoses though the bars as they ran around. Food was shipped on trays onto the floor. Feces on the floor. Gone are those days!!! I cannot imagine anyone standing for that type of care now a days. Lucky you saw the rooms not the people from earlier times.
No good news---- I have not lost any weight. No up, no down. Good on you that have lost. I think my attitude needs to change...do I really want to loose five pounds or not!

Tuesday - Make my Recipe LighterOk, this is good stuff just maybe not good for you. I'm making it though as it what my DS puts on his real Subway sandwiches and since I'm now making them at home for school lunch. (Let's just say that school lunch is not making it for both school and kid reasons) How do I make this a small bit runnier (add water?)? And is there a way to get rid of or reduce the corn syrup? I have agave syrup to try but I also need volume. SUBWAY SWEET ONION SAUCE Make it a day ahead of time to let the flavors blend and mellow. ½ cup light corn syrup 1 tablespoon finely minced vidalia onion 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons white distilled vinegar 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar 1 teaspoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon buttermilk powder ¼ teaspoon lemon juice 1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds 1/8 teaspoon salt pinch cracked black pepper pinch garlic powder . Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil for about 30 seconds. Whisk well and cover and chill overnight. swiped from coleensrecipes.blogspot.com/2011/03/subway-sweet-onion-chicken-teriyaki.html

Jablea ... now I am hungry for Subway. I love that sweet onion sauce.
Stampsgal, there is a lady here who worked with the out-of-control residents back in the day, when she was just a student nurse. Her stories are similar to what you related. Pretty awful stuff.
Let's see, time to check in for the week. I got in my 5x of exercise, yay! I'm proud of myself for keeping up with it. I wish I was more vigorous ... I have not been at my best this week, with the nerve pain. But every little bit has to help.
I got some cool veggies this week in my farm box and have tried some different things. I used every part of my beets, roasting the beets in the oven and sauteeing the tops for greens. The roasted beets were incredibly easy and good. They taste like carrots. Speaking of carrots, I slow-cooked them in the crockpot and they turned out amazing. Next time I will make more. Last night I made a salad with lettuce, apples, and fennel. Tonight I am making bok choy, planning to sautee with a little garlic. I am struggling to make progress in various areas of my life, and I'm really enjoying the creative challenge of the veggies. You have to take your victories where you find them, eh?
One thing I have noticed is that house and yard work, done with sustained, sincere effort, is more demanding than almost any workout I have tried. Food for thought.

Check-in day again. Well, this week I veered off a bit too much from the plan and did not lose any weight for the first time. Not surprised, as I'm having a lot of cravings it seems! Did now buy a digital scale, so I'll know more exactly how the weight goes. I really need to stick to my plan, but it's getting harder! Did have several salads this past week, so that was good at least. Hope everyone is hanging in there and able to stick to it! With each other's encouragement we can do it!

Nooooooo! I swear I had another day. Well at some point in the week I was -3, not much of a victory since that means no change from my lowest. I'm working full time at home and dang the temptations. I need something to chew, I guess I better get some gum.
