Wednesday - Check in DayI'm getting results from the personal trainer. Not so much in weight loss although I think I'm down another pound but I'm really seeing it in my posture and flexibility. I'm standing up straight and sucking my belly in without even thinking about it. And I can bend my knees and get low to the ground, ie deep knee bends. My neighbor is still working out with me and we've gone halfsies on some protein drinks that the trainer recommended. stardust, Glad WW was positive for you. Keeping track of points has got to be easier than calories for sure. We expect reports. And if you have a different weigh in day for your WW meetings use it for here if you'd like. I'd like to hear your stories as a new WW person. I've never gone so it will all be new for me. rihannsu, great loss and so glad you found a workout buddy too. 4 miles, whew! I always think I'm going the long way when I take the dogs on our mile loop. Guess I need to push it. fiercelier, weigh to bring the scale. That's thinking ahead. If you ate more you might also have moved more. They could balance each other out. I usually lose weight on vacations but staying with Mom might be tougher. juniemoon, yay for the no nerve pain. You'll have to do a chinese food experiment. We'll write up a hypothesis and everything.

Yay for everyone's results and stick-to-it-iveness! Jablea, I like the idea of a Chinese food controlled experiment. I did have some pain this week which was a drag but it has gone away again, yay. This was a strange, sad week with big implications for my desire to get more fit. You guys might remember that when I joined this thread in January, I told you about how I had a lifelong habit of taking a daily 1.5 mile walk. While this didn't make me any kind of a hard body, it did help me stay reasonably fit because I really enjoyed it and was so consistent. But four years ago, my mom died and my dad couldn't live on his own anymore ... and his new retirement apartment wouldn't take his dog. We took in Belle. Belle was already 14 then. I tried to keep up with my walking for a while, but there just wasn't time to do that and walk Belle too. Something had to give and it was my walk, not Belle's. I felt so obligated to make sure that old girl had a good life and got to go out and smell everything ... she had been through so much ... it took her about 30 or 40 minutes to cover a 1/4 mile. Belle passed away last Friday at the age of 18. I never dreamed she would live so long! I never had my own dog before and in many ways I never felt she was my dog ... still, I know I will be looking for her for months. I've slowly begun to remember my life before Belle ... including the walk. I have started to go again and am looking forward to the cumulative effect that the walks always had for me. A time to unwind, to use my body, and to enjoy the neighborhood and the seasons. Speaking of seasons, it's hot here now so I've started to switch to salads for the veggie basket. We did have a nice light cooked cabbage with pepper and onions. I've made carrot salad and have a chard salad planned for tonight and then a zucchini and tomato salad for later in the week. It's easier to eat light in the summer. Looking forward to swimming too.

So sad to hear about Belle's passing, Juniemoon, but 18 is a great age, wow! It's always tough to lose a pet, even when she's not actually yours.
I hear you about having to give up your walk in order to walk Belle. We used to have 2 dogs and they have been gone for a few years now, but I still miss them, but if we took a new dog(s) it would also not allow me to do my own walking. As walking is the easiest for me, what with back issues, ankle, etc. now that I've finally got back into walking, at least before the weather gets too hot, I want to be able to continue. Actually went for a walk before weighing myself, figuring I would need all the help I can get after the family visit week! I do a 45 minute walk, which is 3.9 km (2.4 miles) and I've just built back up to that distance, and try to go every other day, but that won't always work because of my job. Still have my ankle MRI to come in a few weeks, but it's been holding up pretty good.
I've also started to try and do a few exercises but there are quite a few I cannot do because I'm not very fit nor flexible plus my back won't let me.
Anyway, I am up in weight, but fortunately only .2 lbs, so all things considered, not too bad after being off "the plan" for a week. Trying hard to get back in the right frame of mind to carry on. I agree that it's easier to eat light in the summer with a lot of salads and fresh fruit, just have to take it real easy on the baking left overs that I do as part of my job!
Hope everyone had a good week! I too am interested in hearing about WW Stardust, good luck to you!

Well, I stayed the same this week, but was way up on Friday (which is why I went to WW). I'm not new there as I check in every couple years when I get out of control. They do tweak the program every year or so, and I do like this incarnation. Still takes a little getting used to. Not cheap, but sometimes you need a little help. I weigh in on Fridays but will continue to check in here on Weds. Not fond of writing everything down, but it does make you aware of everything you are eating. <--- My most favorite smiley!!!

OMG rihannsu, you must be jogging? You are logging some serious milage.
On dogs, old dogs, and walking with dogs. sniffles here. I miss my old feller so much. He was so sad when I left him at home to take the younger one, never mind the acre he had all to himself, lol. I have three at the moment, yes I look like the dog whisperer going down the road with them all at heel. Two are ours and I'm fostering the other. If I had the gumption to do more milage they'd all be with me. Sometimes I take them for a spin on the bike. That makes their tongues hang out.
I've decided spending for my trainer has been a good two month investment and I'll keep going. Got on and off the horse tonight(she's been at a trainer herself for a couple of months) without having to use a mounting block. No knee pain and enough flexibility to do it. Yeppers.
I've lasted about 1/2 of a day writing down what I eat. It's tough.

My workout buddy is a little taller than me and she is a runner as well so she walks pretty fast and it makes me keep my pace up to stay with her. Last two walks averaged about 3.7 mph. We are supposed to rent bikes on Sunday and go for a long ride, which should be interesting as I haven't been on a bike in a good while. Hope I remember how to ride. LOL

Informational post examining "starvation mode", what's real and what's not about it. www.burnthefatblog.com/archives/2012/12/starvation-mode-revisited.phpOne of the most important points in this and many other articles I've read is that tracking your calorie intake is absolutely vital to doing any kind of assessment as to what is going on with your weight loss (or lack thereof). Therefore here is the link again to the website I've been using which is absolutely and totally free. www.myfitnesspal.comYes, it can be a pain in the ass to keep up with tracking but trying to do any kind of weight loss without tracking is like trying to drive blindfolded. With luck you might stay on the road but more than likely you end up in the ditch. Don't confuse tracking with "dieting". I've been tracking food since January and I don't "deny" myself anything. If I really want it I eat it but just being aware of what my numbers are makes me take the extra step of questioning whether I "really" want it and most of the time I don't. I eat when I'm hungry and for the most part I try to eat healthy but I don't obsess over it and yet I've lost 27 lbs since January. The biggest change in my diet has been simply reducing mindless snacking or habitual eating. For those of you frustrated with your progress think seriously about committing yourself to a minimum of one month of tracking and measuring so that you can get a clear picture of your current situation and go from there. With the amount of nutritional information easily available on the web and the help of websites like myfitnesspal or sparkpeople, etc. tracking is much easier than it ever has been before. I'd rather be frustrated with tracking than be frustrated with my weight.
