ETA: looks like Adam is the first to break all ties (maybe except 19 Merchandise?) with the Idol Machine and remains signed to a major label, and in such a short time frame too! I think what we may be seeing is the legal consideration Adam received in exchange for being held hostage for all those months that AI dithered about whether or not they might add him to the judge's panel. When Adam seemed to be suspended in a holding pattern right at the time Trespassing needed a big promo launch, I kept wondering what they would have to give him to make him do that without any guarantee that he'd get the judge's gig at the end of the day. My bet is that what he was given was an agreement that 19R wouldn't renew their option. If that's so, it's a great reason to hang out in the new condo drinking $350/bottle champagne. Also a great reason to post the image of dancing kitty with $$ signs.

Taking away 19R's cut is like Adam getting a big raise! I think you may be on to something here.

Actually, they haven't. They've remained with 19 management (19M), not 19 Recordings. All the artists on 19R roster are currently signed. I still think it's a good thing for Adam. Gives him more negotiating power and doesn't have a middleman taking a huge cut. And, the ones currently are with 19R: Carrie Underwood Casey James Daughtry Fantasia Barrino Haley Reinhart Jessica Sanchez Jordin Sparks Kelly Clarkson Lauren Alaina Phillip Phillips Scotty McCreery If 19R does nothing but take money, why would these older idols still with them? Certainly Kelly and Carrie would have been able to opt out of renewing a contract with them. Yes?? No??

Speculation seems to be that they are simply unable to get out. Many people suspect when Kelly has fulfilled her contract with RCA she will exit 19R ASAP

This sounds a bit alarming to me - says the worrywort. :-/ Q3 - what does this mean? ??? No, it's not. It means if his contracct with 19R ended in Jan., then his contract with RCA would have also ended. DMG would have to renegotiate a new contract. They could go with RCA again or choose a different label. It would not surprise me at all to see another announcement the beginning of next week. geezelouise, 19R makes no decisions about singles released. They just sit back & collect a large % of the profits. No this is not correct. The 19 Recordings contract has a 4-year term. The RCA Contract is options for 5 studio albums. (GN Live does not count.) Adam has completed 2 studio albums for RCA. Adam has a contract with 19 Recordings, now expired. 19 Entertainment/CORE Media has a contract with Sony where they get paid for the artists they license to Sony Music Entertainment labels like RCA. Adam has a contract with RCA that is separate agreement between Adam and Sony/RCA. It is most likely a 5-album deal -- meaning RCA owns the option for 5 albums. They have apparently exercised the first part of the third option. Simplified, it looks like this.... NOTE: The term of Adam's contract with RCA is not known. 5-albums is the normal term for other Idols and most artists. There is no reason to believe that Adam has a unique deal vs. Kelly, Clay and Daughtry who have discussed their RCA contract deals in the press.

They are part of the Idol machine. They exist to get $$ from their Idols once the show ends. No other reason! :( They are like a noose around the contestants and labels necks! No matter what label Adam is now with, 19R being gone is nothing but a good thing!! BTW, did you all see the shot glass with the Menorah on it in that Instgram pic?!! Exactly -- they are one of the many vehicles get money to 19 Entertainment/CKX. But the way it functions, 19R has the recording contracts for the Idols and they license the artists to major labels. The labels pay 19R and 19R pays the Idols.
So 19R does one thing, they count the money while they take out their share. Ahh, thanks.

Many people suspect when Kelly has fulfilled her contract with RCA she will exit 19R ASAP There Idols who are from the first 5 seasons have a different set of contract terms. I do not know where season 6 falls. I believe Kelly is stuck with 19R for 10 years which should be over now. Some of the others have time left -- most valuable are Carrie and Daughtry. Sometime after Clay Aiken won his suit against 19 Entertainment for the excessive contract terms, the contract was changed. IMO it was the most important thing Clay ever did.
