For me Adam will always be the biggest star. His voice, spirit and music has really touched me. So I don't care about his labels and deals as long as he can keep on doing what he is doing best I don't care if he will be small star or big star as long as he is happy and keeps on performing and making music for us. I really really really love his voice [/IMG]
I really, really, really love his voice too. (Okay, and the way he looks ain't half bad either). ( Okay, throw in the intelligence and the way he inspires me all the time )

Avari, I also believe in karma. And Adam sends out so much love and hope that it must be returned to him. grashus: As far as I can tell, 19R does nothing except collect money. All I know is Adam is very happy right now. The CCTV interview was the most centered and happy about his career I have ever seen him. So I know all is good. Around 23:00 in that interview, he said something about getting control -- it was in a discussion of his music and albums: Eyee Hsu: Do you feel that as you mature and as you ...get further along in your career you are getting more control?
Adam: Yeah, I think, I think part of gaining control is, is releasing some of it though. That is part of the big life lesson that I'm kind of starting to wrap my head around now is part of gaining control over your life is learning to surrender. Link: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=m68yoqTSDokI am not one to read things into everything Adam said but this comment really struck me when I heard it. First, because it is a very self-aware, mature statement. (I am just now learning this.) But mostly because of the context, I believe he is talking about learning working with and taking advice from other people about his music. Next Twitter event, I hope I get a chance to ask him about this.

You guys are really making it sound like this is a bad thing . (the "parting ways" thing ) I don't think it's bad , actually , I'm pretty HAPPY . Well thats true, because first when I heard it, I didn't really understood what was going on and I automatically paniced and thought that he is no longer signed to any label.. (which isn't true, thank god) But now when I've been reading your posts about this topic, I still don't understand all of it, but I believe that this is a good thing.

Oh I don't think this is a bad thing at all. In fact the further away he gets from Idol the better, IMO. And no to any Idol judge position. They've screwed him around enough. Just MO of course.

ETA: looks like Adam is the first to break all ties (maybe except 19 Merchandise?) with the Idol Machine and remains signed to a major label, and in such a short time frame too! I think what we may be seeing is the legal consideration Adam received in exchange for being held hostage for all those months that AI dithered about whether or not they might add him to the judge's panel. When Adam seemed to be suspended in a holding pattern right at the time Trespassing needed a big promo launch, I kept wondering what they would have to give him to make him do that without any guarantee that he'd get the judge's gig at the end of the day. My bet is that what he was given was an agreement that 19R wouldn't renew their option. If that's so, it's a great reason to hang out in the new condo drinking $350/bottle champagne. Also a great reason to post the image of dancing kitty with $$ signs. Did somebody call me?!!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Lots of people tweeted him that question that night. I would also love to hear him address that more specifically. He did seem especially self-assured in that interview about his opportunities to keep doing what he loves best for the rest of his life, and that also made me very happy.

Adam splitting with 19R is a good thing if it's what Adam wanted; it's a bad thing if it's not what he wanted And we'll never know the real answer to that...but I will choose to believe it's what Adam wanted. Personally I can't stand the whole idol machine and I am always happy when Adam moves farther away from it. I felt the same way when he split from the mgmt arm and signed with DMG. [whispers] And I'm one of very few fans that didn't want to see him sitting at the idol judge's table. So, yay! \o/ Besides, career-wise, circumstances always seem to work out in adam's favour, no matter what they seem initially. The universe is always looking out for him. There is absolutely no reason Adam or any other Idol would not want to split with 19R. The ones still there are there because they have to be! Plain and simple, their contracts have not expired yet.Q3, since Jordin is still with 19R and she was S6, my guess is the shorter contracts started in S7.

This contract was signed in January 2009 -- so has nothing to do with the Idol judging stuff. There are no options. The AI Season 8 contract was filed in a court filing in California, and it is a 4 year term. Adam is not the first to leave 19R -- that would be Clay Aiken.
Adam will not get a raise from this -- Sony will not have to pay 19R for future recordings. In an indirect way, Adam will make more money IF he has a profitable #3 album. If the album is in the red, won't make any difference.
Ah! Clay Aiken! I totally forgot about there was once an Aiken in the Idol family! Sorry, I didn't even know about the show till Underwood's season, but I've now somewhat caught up, I think.
Yes, Clay was the first to leave 19R and cut all ties to the Machine, and his legal battle winning over the Machine has been his singular most important contribution.
Re Aiken hadn't had much of a career after leaving the Machine, it had very little to do with the contracts, labels & managements but mostly to do with his music style, his appeal, his audience demo and his marketability.
