Although I actually like that typo/spellcheck mishap. Hair is always a good word. LOL

Just for the record, my original post had nothing to do with politics or civil rights, but was a comment only why some people find that they viscerally dislike Elvis. One may review best sellers of the period such as Tobacco Road to see the same dynamic in action. There is an excellent book on the subject, When Elvis Died, by Neal and Janice Gregory, for those interested in media and popular dynamics surrounding the image of Elvis and his fans, and it talks a lot about this subject.

Hi Dear Christopher Ameruoso is working on this book with Priscilla Presley. For several months he has been photographing many different celebrities wearing/interacting with a pair of Elvis's famous sunglasses provided by Priscilla Presley and Graceland. These photos will be published in a hard cover book that is planned for an August 2013 release, coinciding with Elvis week. The book will be filled with about black and white photos of 80 different people with quotes from each person about Elvis. Thanks!

Elvis was a poor white Mississippi redneck who was singing "that Negro rock n roll music". It was almost impossible for him to get radio play on the all-white stations back in the 50s. Plus, shaking his hips, curling that lip, driving the innocent lil gals CRAZY, was the devil himself come to town in the Bible Belt. But, resistance was futile & now The King is Legend! Our BB will pave his own way to music immortality! *Waving* HI all... THIS! The fight and struggle against prejudice! When talking about the Elvis v Adam connection (pictures aside) this IS the Atmosphere, just different prejudices...

When I said I feel a little guilty spending so much time on line because I am doing Adam stuff, I didn't mean to imply that I had any real regret about devoting a good amount of my off hours following Adam and his career. I find it a very joyful and compelling hobby (to steel Myspensers term) My life is much richer since I became a fan, and I am grateful to him for enriching my life. I think I know exactly what you mean. I may have a twinge of guilt when I choose the computer over doing RL stuff. 8-)

EmoElvisSpikeyMessyElvis and Lifeguard! So wonderful to see you both here. Want to just say that I can totally relate to Lifeguard. It's always been a question of balance for me too. There is a big difference between a hobby and an obsession. How does it work in practice to treat this as a secondary/third/forth wheel and to focus on the many times less popular duties in a sufficient and timely way? Decisions. Decisions. I never, never, never feel guilty about being an Adam fan - hell no - why should I? But have there been hours where I thought that I was neglectful towards another tasks or person and felt that I needed to re-balance things in my life? Absolutely. What I also noticed is that absence did make my heart grow fonder. The flame was always there. Which feels great, btw. But as a result of my balancing efforts, I don't have endless time here. Or sometimes the timing is inconvenient. Life goes on, there will always be others. But it is so great to see everyone check in, even occasionally. Just so much better than thinking you have gotten lost forever or somehow don't like us anymore. So good to see you both.

I don't feel guilty either. Adam is my hobby! Lots of people have hobbies! I don't feel guilty either but I think it's kind of funny, I think it's kind of sad that my family and my 2 best friends don't know what to do with my AFL obsession. I don't bring him up nearly as much as I'd like to because I always get a very cool response. They know I spend a lot of time following him but they never ask about him (God forbid). It makes me feel just a tiny bit less loved. :-/ It's weird, they don't even tease me about it. I guess they think if they pretend it isn't there, it will go away. Fortunately, my DH is the most tolerant of the lot. Again, no guilt here. I'm enjoying myself thoroughly and just when I think I may be getting my perspective back a little bit, something like Life Ball happens and I'm right back down the rabbit hole. Best reality show EVVA! I have no guilty conscience because of my Adam-stanning and my DH fortunately is very tolerant and likes Adam, too! But I have the impression that first my mom wasn't so happy that I became such a big Adam stan. I think she didn't take the whole thing seriously and I got on her nerves when I showed her an Adam video from time to time or when I talked about him on our visits or at phone calls.I think she didn't like his look with the makeup and the special outfits! But in the meantime she realizes how good Adam and this whole fandom is for me and she saw how Adam helped me and encouraged me in the last years. And so now she changed her mind and always asks me about the latest news from him or she looks in German magazines for articles about Adam! And last Sunday she called me in the afternoon to tell me that she had watched the life ball on German TV on Saturday and how much she liked Adam's performance and especially the short interview on the red carpet! She was impressed how Adam had eye contact with the interviewer the whole time and how charming he was! Haha, if it continues this way perhaps she will also become a Glambert and go to the next concert with us!?
