No understudy role for Adam on the SSB.. People take the SSB very seriously and I wouldn't doubt there were plenty of veterans in that audience. Adam did riff it up Broadway style which the snappy salute fit into. But I doubt Adam would 'play' with that song. Yes, I know he did it years ago at Burning Man, but this isn't the same Adam. Have to agree to disagree with you on that, 4M's..
Agree with you, Viv! The salute was his cammpy addition but the song was pure bliss. Some people on twitter have said it was similar to the Spielberg rendition but I haven't relistened to that one in ages. I think anyone in the audience would get it -- even a veteran. They were there to see a campy, OTT show with almost naked performers wearing electric lights and hanging from trapeze rings. I am less sure that people seeing the video on YouTube who do know know the context will understand that he was singing the SSB as part of a show -- hence the arrangement, the salute and the turn.

How many times can I watch this before it starts getting weird? I passed the point of wondering that YEARS ago (well, 4 years ago.)

David Thomas Tao @d_tao Saw @adamlambert sing at Broadway Bares last night. Takes a lot to impress that crowd, but he hit notes that wowed longtime Broadway singers

Oh, I'm so glad you posted this version! Adam's home trip to San Diego during Idol. Thanks!!! This is achingly beautiful as well. Very different and very lovely. His ability to flexibly color his gorgeous voice at will in response to the audience and occasion is mind blowing. We saw it over and over again at GNT. And these two a cappella performances of a notoriously difficult song are a tour de force. How many times can one fan survive having a totally blown mind? Just one more! Bring it on!!

I love hearing the reaction of the audience for this show in particular. There were undoubtedly many trained singers in the audience (as opposed to many untrained singers at awards shows, etc.). They can really appreciate the skill and talent at a different level than many of us. Plus, it sounds like a lot of producer/director/etc., people were present. Those who were there will remember.

Hey, Beaker @gakbird . @adamlambert My dear Mr. Lambert, your SSB vocals were INSANE!!! Francis Scott Key will now have to write another cuz you killed that one!

And one more thing! Adam is the only one I have ever heard, that does the correct intonation for the line "that our flag was still there." I am sure the way Adam sings it is the way Francis Scott Key meant for the meaning of that line to be conveyed!

cassie, can you simplify this statement? Sorry, not familiar of the application of the word to Adam's voice....
Malcolm @sxmglambert OMGGGG the reverb makes the note on 'there' in 'flag was still there' sound even more epic!!!
