Yes, Interscope. Why is UMG a better choice than Interscope? They seem so aggressive and effective. Of course I know from nothing but I remember the list going on and on about how they wished he was signed with Interscope. Interscope is part of UMG -- Cool Then I totally support your prayer and am praying with you!

Of course I know from nothing but I remember the list going on and on about how they wished he was signed with Interscope. Interscope IS UMG just as RCA is SONY. American Idol is contracted with UMG but within UMG Interscope gets first dibs on the idols because that is Jimmy Iovine's label. Katy Perry is with Capital which was an EMI imprint but UMG has bought out EMI so Capital is now under UMG. It is hard to keep track of the alphabet soup and all the label names because there can be so many grouped under each major label group. Except that they are "all" under UMG or Sony Global record company (physical/digital sales) market shares, 2011 and 2012 (%) RM Source: Music & Copyright According to Simon Dyson, editor of Music & Copyright, “the full impact of UMG’s acquisition of the EMI record companies will only be seen in the market-share figures for this year. Based on this year’s share figures and including only UMG’s retained companies, UMG’s share of total recorded-music trade revenues may rise a further three to four percentage points.”

I don't want Adam under Jimmy Lovine though. He's so opinionated and often wrong.

I'm confused. Can he just walk away? And who does Shoshanna work for? Shoshanna works for Outside Edge (PR Firm) who works for Sony Music. They also work for many artist directly but Adam is not on there client list. Adam is still listed on the RCA artist roster so this is very new and I really think was just done during that long NY trip. *** Well MySpenser50 and a few other called this. I still cannot believe RCA was that stupid. Even considering their limited vision, an 80's cover album was just stupid. But it would be cheap to produce, have no singles to promote, and was just a way to make a fast buck off Adam's existing fans and Idol fame. You must have missed a part of the evolution. Shoshanna is now Edge Publicity which is her company and is no longer part of Outside Edge. Near as we can figure the Outside Edge thing was a temporary thing while getting her own company organized. Her artists all stayed with her when she transitioned to Edge Publicity.

WOW this is crazy
Is it possible that RCA forcing a "covers" album because
1. they didn't know what to do w him, or
2. forcing him out because they knew he wouldn't go for the 'covers' album, or
3. didn't believe in him and didn't care for his artistic direction??????????

So, did Adam really "walk away" from RCA? Or did RCA "dump" him? I suspect yes to both. RCA didn't say "Adam, we won't do another record with you. We are letting you go." They said, "Adam, we want you to do a covers album. Do that, and we are fine. Refuse, or insist on other music, and we are through."
Adam made the decision not to comply. He knew that this decision would result in RCA letting him go. So, he DID "walk away" from RCA. And the first few articles are framing it in that context, which is very good for Adam. Many of us have been asked by our employer to do something we thought was ethically wrong, or was counter to our beliefs and goals. We have been given the ultimatum to play ball or go home. Whether we decided to capitulate and try to make the best of it, or we decided to stand up for our beliefs and be let go, we know that it is a difficult decision, and we can applaud someone for standing firm on their principles.
Adam and his management were brilliant on how and when they released this information/ Bravo to all. Well, except RCA.

Wow and good for you Adam following what you know is right for you. Confused though, doesn't he have a contract for 5-7 albums? Or does this mean that both parties parted???? The contact is for options on 5 contracts -- RCA can decide if they want to exercise each option or not. And they can put terms on each option. And the record label has the right to decide is work is commercially acceptable even after exercising an option. Interesting that RCA Promo tweeted the GLEE story yesterday. 'But many fans feel it fizzled because of lack of radio and tour support. A label source acknowledges that internally, enthusiasm was lacking for the sophomore effort but that the Sony-owned company could get behind a covers collection so long as execs have input into such aspects as song selection and cover art.' So RCA wasn't behind the last album and wasn't going to support a new album either. What other choice did he have but to leave if he wants to pursue his music. I hope he finds a label that gets him, and is 100% behind him. He deserves better!
