I'm sure I read somewhere that if an artist and label part ways, the label owns the rights to all material developed and released under that label.
Is this true and how does it work?
Does Adam being exec producer of trespassing factor into his rights to that albums music?

Well! Apologies to Shirley Kudos to MyS*&@^#r and her mashed potatoes - what were you saying about Idol?.... And Q3 is off the hook re having to buy drinks all around when the cover album was released! I am relieved!!! It could have been expensive. But I also did not believe RCA wanted an 80's cover album. I guess the RCA that I knew and loved is truly dead.

Also, I suspect Adam spent most of his NY trip meeting with high powered lawyers in preparation for this. (P.s. those of you who lurk on mjs: she just posted a message from Shirley H claiming there was no orchestration to the timing of all these bombshells. Lol! That's not even credible!!!)

Does Adam being exec producer of trespassing factor into his rights to that albums music? RCA owns (bought and paid for) the recording masters to FYE and Trespassing unless they sell them. Adam owns the songs he wrote, split with the other writers unless he sells them. RCA will continue to pay Adam royalties for sales of his first two albums and other releases (EPs, DVDs and singles) and licensing revenue shares. Adam gets extra royalties for being Trespassing EP. ETA: Adam can still perform the music and Adam leaves not owing RCA any money.

That's not even credible!!!) www.mjsbigblog.com/adam-lambert-walks-away-from-his-rca-contract.htm#disqus_threadETA: Also, agree this whole deal–from Shirley dropping the “gossip” earlier this week, to the Glee announcement, and now the letter to Shirley revealing the split with RCA–it appears to be well orchestrated by Adam’s people. Whoever is in charge of Adam’s PR deserves a major raise. UPDATE: Shirley Halperin responds to my ETA above: There was no orchestration, MJ. I had the tip, asked Adam directly at the Live Proud event, he wouldn’t comment. Same with his rep and the label. Feeling confident in my sources, I printed the story, the reaction came flooding in and it precipitated a decision of whether to move forward with a third album, or not. Both sides would have to agree on a creative direction in order to move ahead with the recording contract. That’s the god’s honest truth. Just good, old-fashioned journalism.

Well, i am heading on out to rest up for the next big news. Have to say once more that I so admire and respect Adam's courage and strength of character to shape his own destiny and not let others take control.
