I see we are back to interpreting SH - articles, now that is always a task that I have enjoyed and I have a track record to uphold, so I feel the pressure....scratching my head....and now with chutzpa and nothing much else, I predicting the following.
a) This article is mostly written to tell everybody that JHud is out, without making it personal and about her. Rather they blame it on the new management having a change of heart on the idol-alumni idea. This means that no former idol is in the running, except.... the one exception, which is mentioned both in the headline as well as in the article. Which means Adam is in - his connection to the producers via Divas is actually artificially built into the article as a bridge, to be able to argue that Adam comes with a different story-line than idol alum alone. Kind of funny, actually.
b) Keith is in.
c) JLo was a difficult negotiation and SH is preparing the idol world that not all judges did come cheap. They had to cough up some serious dough for her and they are beginning to sell this information to the world. imo that is 20 million wasted right there, but obviously, they see it differently and she is the star power person they bought for the season.
d) Now for #4 it gets messy.
- To be pc, you need gender, race and (with Adam) you can also cover orientation
- You want to have your musical genres covered
- You want to have excitement on the panel
- you want to have one judge that has the ability to be a bit more critical and cut to the chase (ala Simon) and
- you want to have one judge that can draw a younger crowd.
Situation: With JLo, you have hispanic, but black is not covered and that is a problem in the music business, if you want to be current. You are missing at minimum R&B, hip-hop and soul in music genre
You also need a bit more edge and sarcasm, because Kevin is laid back, JLo is (this was beautiful, you are giving me goose bumps) and Adam who is warm, sympathizes with contestants and is very positive in style, you are missing the bite a bit.
Finally, you need somebody who has the attention of the younger crowd.
Out of all the other names that SH throws out, only Will-i-am covers all these bases.
Will-i-am is very funny and whitty in interviews. tbh, I don't think it is fair to diss him based on this one time at the GN show, where he was booked for the full hour, and Adam just sang his song, did not know the previous conversation and just imo tried to somehow fit in and hang on for the ride at the end of that hour.
On idol, Adam is on home turf, and we will get competent judging from him, and Will-i-am and Adam will have rapport with each other. Will-i-am might hog a bit more than his share of time, but otherwise, he is a big asset, imo for all the reasons above.
I am surprised that Miley is not mentioned at all, in my mind she would have been the better choice over JLo, but her name is not there, so I guess, this did not come about. Or needs to be added later and JLo is sent away as being too expensive. But that is wishful thinking. I read the article as JLo is in and it is a done deal based on what Ryan said.
So, there you have my read on the SH article.
