I think what happened in the judges panel mess is found in this quote: “I just want to find chemistry that is comfortable and right for the show and not have that be an issue.” www.deadline.com/2013/08/tca-keith-urban-set-to-return-to-american-idolI think they were afraid of being creative and went with comfortable. Adam is interesting, challenging, makes you think, never just comfortable. I think they still want bigger names than Adam.

I haven't respected Ryan S. since he played that "bottom 3" garbage with Adam that one time on AI8 years ago -- takes me awhile to get over things. I would bet the Ryan didn't have anything to do with that. He is a voice and reads cue cards. Can't imagine he is a decision maker on how to handle things. That maneuver is called The Huff and has been a part of Idol since the third season. Ryan just does what he's told to do, which is to create (or attempt to create) drama with antics like The Huff and the fake-outs ("You're headed home...eventually, but not now, because you're safe!") and the drawn-out announcements ("And now we'll learn who's going to be going home... after the break.").

Actually, Idol makes quite a habit of making fun of their contestants. I guess it's supposed to be entertaining but I've always thought it was a cruel. JMO.

Imma gonna quote myself because I really really want an opinion on this. Was RCA maneuvered into thinking this was a quick money maker? Did DMG pounce on the covers to get the most press? Did RCA really think Adam was interested and then he pulled the rug out from under them. Personally I like this theory but don't have enough knowledge of how the contracts work to really make a statement. Well, I think RCA was afraid of putting money into another album that might perform poorly. So, the only option they were willing to support was a cheap, "quick buck for the holidays" cover album that would basically sell to the fanbase. And this may be unpopular, but I also believe that the whole cover album scenario could have been a means to essentially push Adam out, since they probably knew that he would not be crazy about the idea. I will also admit that the break with RCA was the first indication to me that Idol might not be in the cards for Adam, since I think the label would have worked harder to keep him (or at least given him the option of another album of original music) had they known he was going to have the huge exposure that being on the show every week would have given him. I see your point but could they have, more simply, just not picked up his option?

Yes, but this way they are relieved of any bad publicity that might have come from dropping "the first openly gay artist to have a #1 album." Especially in light of all the progress made this spring. Not saying this is what happened, just that it is a possibility.

Talking about loss of respect for Ryan Secrest: I lost it for him when he continually introduced Adam as 'Adam Lamberts'. Ryan did this during season 9 of AI and has done it several times since then.

Not saying this is what happened, just that it is a possibility. It is pretty certain that RCA did not pick up Adam's option. They would have had a year from acceptance of Trespassing which was finished in April. Adam recorded a track being released through a UMG label on April 29, 2013. I believe it is exactly what we are being told -- RCA wanted Adam to do an 80's cover album and do it quickly. They are interested in making money. And RCA/Sony would not sacrifice any profits for the appearance of supporting gay rights. Just not how Sony runs. Sony divisions have to make money and hit profit goals. Finally, RCA/Sony has 2 really big reasons to make Adam look good -- FYE and Trespassing which they own for decades to come. These are valuable properties and will sell and generate licensing fees for years to come.

Way late but I so agree with this! I thought I was the only one who noticed it. So many fans thought Ryan loved Adam but I never got that impression. The opposite in fact.
