Q3, you posted the same video twice for Crystal Bowersox. Did you mean some other video for the "Something more like this" one? Thanks! I fixed it. Must have been a video link copy fail

shoshanna stone @shoshannastone 1h Even more annoying when people believe sites that take old quotes out of context I Go By Many Names @igobymanynames 50m @shoshannastone most of us take you or Adam retweeting an article for confirmation, if that's any consolation. Not sure about other fandoms shoshanna stone @shoshannastone 48m @igobymanynames it's just silly. We've been very clear that Adam and queen is about moments and events not full tours. Isn't that what we've always thought? Here anyway. I don't think anyone expects a full tour out of Roger and Brian, ever. I think some still expects a tour of Queen & Adam, especially now that they're going to have an almost full concert in Vegas. Watch, after America sees their performance, I bet media will start whining with wants of QAL tour in the US. And I bet Brian/Roger will have this MTV EMA deja vu moment again and their phone will start ringing non stop again from the concerts organizers.

Here's the thing about this year's Idol panel. It is safe. Will Harry bring back viewers they lost? Sure! Will this panel bring in any new viewers? Nope! I would say, not one! I have liked Harry as a mentor on past seasons, until S12. The video with Kree is good because Kree was his favorite, he loved her. He was pretty damn mean to the other kids to the point of being embarrassing. He is not relevant at all to the Pop music scene, which is what Idol is trying to be. And, yes he can interpret songs but only if they are in his style. This past season he tried to get every single one of the kids to sing their song the way he would, regardless of their own style. I think Idol is playing it safe and just trying to get 2 more years out of the show. S14 is when Ryan's contract expires. I predict, S14 might be the last. I so agree with this statement. I was really disappointed with him telling all the singers that runs should not be used. Especially when that is the only time the audience reacts(aside from the frilly screamers up front). I think he wants everyone to sound like a 40's songbook. which I personally like but Idol is trying to promote pop singers.

I just thought he was saying that it's not necessary to use runs in every song, and some songs simply sound better without them. Personally, I think runs are waaaaaay overused in Idol, and often the impression I get is that the singer can't hold a steady note and is using runs to disguise that fact. That's not always the case, of course, but I get really tired of hearing each and every note turned into seven, and I agreed with Harry that Kree's song did not call for runs.

When HCJ mentored this year it was the top 4; each girl sang 2 songs, he mentored 1 of those songs. We saw the mentoring session with Kree but we didn't see her performance. Someone said they thought he made a girl cry. I assume it was Amber. I don't think she cried but she was uncomfortable. Here is Kree's performance and the the mentoring/performance of Amber. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA1ZKCuHRc0www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZa6kAjK-BkI think his mentoring wasn't necessarily genere specific but more about understanding and performing the best interpretation of the song. Kara gave Adam some similiar advice which he still uses today: Soaked, Sleepwalker, Underneath, etc. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDJECDmojzA

I have to disagree with that. IMO singers use runs because: 1) They know how, 2) They want to show that they can do it, 3) It enhances songs. I think it takes skill to use runs and it does add to the phrasing of many songs. Beiber is learning, even tho he's not very good now, but I think with experience, he might do OK. Blake Shelton doesn't like runs at all, but I guess most country singers don't use it (I really don't know)? Adam, ofc, is very skilled at it, and uses it appropriately.

I am a fan of Jazz/bluesy music, one of the thing I like about this genres, because the way the singers/musicians improvised them selves on live performance. I'm not talking about Harry Connick Jr. kind of Jazz or big band kind. I love big band music. Though I like Michael Bubble better than HCJ. I don't ever remember HCJ improvised the way Adam or Christina Aguilera does. Though Christina does it too much and sometime it's annoying. I was convinced that Adam has a jazz/bluesy/soul roots when I first saw these YT videos and the way he always makes his improvisations or melisma or riff... or whatever you want to call it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBlmcak7cuAwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw1fznPBu6UWell.. he admitted himself that (paraphrase) he has a "Ms. Thang" inside him. Just listen to his Kickin-In (studio or live performance), or the way he brought Somebody to Love, etc.

I am sorry but an Idol mentor telling a contestant that they have serious self-confidence issue, and that they should be embarrassed that they do not understand the lyrics to a song is effective way to mentor or enjoyable to watch. [HCJ to Amber] Perhaps he could have told her what "Greek" referred to? Or helped her understand the lyrics to this song. "My Funny Valentine" is a really beautiful song, and it is not so complex. On Kree's performance -- he told her to drop the runs and do the Lena Horn version. I prefer the Etta James version -- which includes the blues runs. But he called this the "wrong" way to sing it. How can there be a wrong way to sing? Etta James www.youtube.com/watch?v=9migdK-LnPU Lena Horn youtu.be/xzLkXdkuhX8Harry even sing the Lena Horn arrangement for her. To me the Lena Horn arrangement sounds old fashioned and is boring. Plus, he is wrong, he said "I would listen to Lena. She's the first person to sing it." Even I know that Lena Horn did not do the original version of this song -- Elisabeth Welch recorded it in 1933 with an excellent version Elisabeth Welch famously sang "Love for Sale" in Cole Porter's "The New Yorkers" (1930-1931) on Broadway. But most of her career was spent in the UK and France -- opportunities for black singers were very limited in the US. For the most part they could only perform in black Broadway shows. I cannot find the original recording online) -- but here is a version from 1979. www.youtube.com/watch?v=857Ste6wylMI understand HCJ point about knowing the melody and understanding the lyrics, but he was trying to move these amateur singers too far, too fast. And just because I love this version of MFV, here is Elvis Costello's version...IMO perfect phrasing. youtu.be/ni3DjM8wcdsFinally, I would have loved to have seen HCJ as an Idol mentor on AI8 -- with Adam!! Since I am sure Adam would have blown him out of the room -- cause JMHO HCJ is no Smokey.
