Elvis had a real struggle finding an audience -- he released 10 singles, plus 6 rereleases, before "Heartbreak Hotel" was released January 27, 1956. It was #1 in the US, and #2 in the UK. The rest is history.
**
He never performed again at the Opry but he did appear on the stage in December 1957 and waved to the audience -- then he headed off to the Army.

:-*Thank you to both Rihannsu and Q3 to help me out with those varying chart statistics.
Yeap, I know that LMD is not likely, even though I wish it were. But hope is eternal, so I'll just keep hoping.
The present folk sound and brass instrumental band sound on radio top40 is just astounding. Sure did not see this one coming a year or two ago. The question is where the pop music will go next? There are probably many, including Adam trying to figure this one out, because obviously this fad is not going to last. Interesting times. And even more interesting to ask why. Why folk music on pop charts in 2013? Why iHeart's strong emphasis on old school rock and pop this year? It's not just fall weather, it's that everybody can sense that the times are changing in music. But which direction are they changing into? That is the hundred million dollar question.
