Sam Bailey has it all. Great stage presence. Thanks for bringing her to my attention. Real, true talent still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. I am looking forward to a long career for her. She deserves it. Michael Bolton knew it when he saw it. Sam Bailey does have a terrific voice ,but can she balance on a wrecking ball naked? Can she sing about an umbrella wearing very high heels and not much else and last but not least can she wear arty outfits that are down right scary?Just Kidding.. There are quite a few singers who don't fit the above description who have amazing careers.. thinking Adele right off the bat and of course Kelly Carrie and I will give, Lady Gaga. I wish Sam the very best .It's apparent from what I read that she's paid her dues and at long last may get the recognition she deserves.. Thinking Adam of course..why oh why can I never stop thinking Adam ?

It would have cost an INCREMENTAL $2 million to $5 million to go "balls to the wall" beyond what they had invested and it was not likely to generate sales to pay that off. That would have made Trespassing an $5 million to $8 million investment. It would have had to have sold over 1 million units to break even. If you gave me $5 million, I do not know how to sell 1,800,000 copies of Trespassing (album) which is the rough breakeven point and I do not think it is possible. >> RCA did spend some money (I think about $1 million) on promotion with little return and they did test the songs as singles but online and using a radio callout. I have been told the results were not good. But this kind of research (one of the things I used to do) is often ignored. While it was a business decision -- I think the mistake was made back in 2011 when the tried to "win back" Adam's mythical fans who wanted the Idol Mad World Adam -- and led with BTIKM. Glee proves to me that there are a lot of non-fans who love the Starchild Adam -- hence MTN is headed to 2 million views -- but it is not going viral. This is one case were "creative differences" really are the root of the entire problem. It goes back to the beginning. Adam wanted to do FYE (single), Trespassing (single), Cuckoo, Broken English, PTL and so on - the Adam fans love, slightly edgy fun Adam. RCA wanted him to repeat Mad World, WWFM thus BTIKM, NCOE - safe Adam, the nice, nonthreatening gay guy. Thus, we have two songs crammed onto Trespassing by the label, we have a lame lead single, and we have a label team afraid to promote an artist they way he and his fans want him to be. Perhaps the duality of Adam's Glee character is about more than just fun TV. I think it represents the battle he has been dealing with his whole life. I am happy now to start to see some merging of the Two Adams into a fashionable, sophisticated man who can be both serious/sensitive and give use an audio dance party with the "costume change". There are a couple of questions I have: 1) Why did they release BTIKM during the Christmas holidays, and especially with no promo at that time and zero chance of radio play? 2) Why did Adam do soooo many radio promos, but radio didn't play any of his songs. So, they didn't like BTIKM, but I would think they might have played NCOE (cuz of Bruno connection), and for sure Trespassing or Cuckoo. I guess we found out no matter how much radio promo you do, that guarantees zilch. 3) Why didn't Adam do the TV rounds. 4) Adam sold miniscule amt of albums after his debut week. I heard even tho Scotty had less debut week sales, his drop off sales every week after weren't bad. I was reluctantly to bring up Scotty, but was seriously wondering why Adam's drop off was so steep? What the heck happened? 5) Why do you think Adam didn't have any sort of tour in the US for Trespassing? (OK, more than a couple of questions, sorry.) I thought 1) had to do with trying to counter the effects of the bastard CD & single. Also, about 3), Adam did Leno, Ellen & Jimmy Kimmel TV shows for BTIKM and Idol for NCOE and it didn't seem to help much. I don't think the talk shows would have him on so soon again after the BTIKM apparence. What other TV shows should he have done?

Thank you for puting here your Favorite Adam Moments of 2013, Q3. I think we are lucky fans. So many such fabulous events! I remember last December Adam in his interview on Jingle Ball in San Francisco got a question: "Do you believe the world will be ending on December 21st." Adam's answer: "No, I don't think that's gonna happen. I hope no. I mean, I got plans, you know? I got big things to do next year." And he was so right! This year was so exciting and great! I was afraid after the We Are Glamily Tour ended and Adam said he was going to work on his new album, there would have not been too much opportunities for fans to see him. Thankfully this never happens! Just the opposite! We got so many events, performances and even a TV show and a new song with Adam! It's been a great and succesfull year so far and I just wish it continues this way. Here is the Jingle Ball San Francisco interview: Adam Lambert @ Star 101.3's Jingle Ball
And my favorite events? I love all of them. It's always a treat to see or hear Adam. Anyway, I think the highlight of this year for me is Adam's performance on Life Ball in Vienna - I was there (with my daughter and QueeenAi *waves* ) and seeing Adam live with my own eyes is the best thing ever!). And I love Adam on Glee! I thought it was a great thing for him (and his fans) since we first heard about it. But I confess I didn't expext it would be SO great and so much giving. *happy dances* Thanks for bringing that interview over. It seems like it has really low play and comment numbers for a pretty darn good interview. I think maybe we were so concentrating on Divas that it didn't get a lot of hits. You're welcome. Well, it was before the Christmas, so maybe ppl didn't have enough time to watch the interview. We can see it on the page of the Radio as well, so most fans might watch it there. And I agree with you, it was a pretty good interview.

X factor answer IMO: the current music industry has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with image. Don't even know why they judge these people on singing at all.
Enjoying the label convo. Thx and please continue.
Belle, thank you for bringing the DOI info over. Those lyrics are heartbreaking.

Bailey said: I guess the important issue is: What are they going to do different with A3 ???
Well, thanks to Glee he will be more visible for era 3. I am also hoping that his amazing iHeart performance softened radio up a bit. Another big plus factor is that he has a much better management team this time around. I also believe he will be getting significantly more support from the LBGT community. He has worked hard at making inroads into this community, and it is my feeling that this well pay off in more sales for Album 3. At least I hope so.

I'm glad to have seen the Sam Bailey vids, but while I think she's great for a talent show and her voice is powerful, but has a sameness about it--like she is coloring inside the lines if that makes any sense.
Also, our dear friend Mayumi is going to Miami to see/hear Adam, and her family and friends live near Manila, so they were not directly affected by the Typhoon.

Adam busted his butt at station after station after station....for extremely little benefit. Or at least any obvious benefit (aka radio play). From what I've gathered reading over the last few years, radio touring is quite expensive. Why, I don't know. But if [perceived or actual] payola associated with it doesn't result in spins, what on earth is the point? [mutters bad words] I guess the important issue is: What are they going to do different with A3 ??? In my opinion,Adam is on this .. After he left RCA , He basically said to paraphrase, that he's hoping to find a record company that shares his vision for his future . Adam is like a sponge,I'm sure he's learned a great deal from the Trespassing era mistakes. I don't think he will go down that path again with a label. If a label won't give him the artistic freedom and support he needs,IMHO he just may become an independent artist.

I've been thinking about what would motivate RCA to want to give Adam a longer release time from his contract. Is it possible that they had prior knowledge of some of Adam's upcoming opportunities (like Glee) and anticipated a bump in sales of FYE and Trespassing? More sales of albums 1 and 2 would increase their profit margin. Adam is such a gentleman, that we will probably never know the back story behind this. Whatever the reason, I sure enjoy all the conjecture that goes on here about every bit of Adam news. Maybe one day, years from now, Adam will write an autobiography. Boy, I'd love to read that! (If I am not on the "wrong side of the grass.")

*** OT *** Also I noticed many members were interested in Sauli's DOI performances last night, happy to provide info on that. In view of the interest I want to share the power ballad, the song apparently of Sauli's choice for their second performance last night. The song has a very strong message of knowing his soulmate but living the life without him, knowing for certain that there'll a time much later when they'll be joined, forever. (No 'problem' in the pronouns as we have only one for both genders.) Does anyone see a message here? YUP for sure

Adam bust his butt running from radio station to radio station, but I don't think the financial support from the label was there. Whatever these backroom dealings are called, payola, jingle balls, banner sales, kma-funding...I don't think that Adam got them for Trespassing. I do believe that he did get support for WWFM though, and that is why it slowly crawled its way forward, even though Adam at the time still was dealing with ama image issues. But it did move forward, ever so slowly. And IIHY got some too.
I don't believe that such money was ever spent on any of the TSP singles, maybe a bit on NCOE, but certainly not on BTIKM.
Also, RCA did a radio survey in UK and US, but while the US results were never released, the UK was pretty vocal and uni-vocal at the time. RCA decided to ignore the results of the survey. Instead, they went with singles that had received the most negative response. We had multiple reports from the UK that indicated that they did not understand the RCA single choices at all.
Adam was dead for the UK market, once the singles were selected. Not exactly surprising, even to me as a sideline observer of pop culture. Pretty sure it was also clear to RCA that they were not popular. Hence my question: Why did they choose them? The argument that they wanted continuation from MW and WWFM just does not add up. Both MW and WWFM were hugely popular, BTIKM was not, and NCOE was neither. That is not a continuation.
It is interesting, what Q3 is observing, that 'out there' Adam does not win with large crowds, but does win very solidly with those few that do get it. Now, 5 years later, there are young folks who were too young for Adam, when he was on idol (comments like: I was scared of him), who are now old enough to appreciate him. Once an Adam fan, always an Adam fan though. He does not loose a lot of fans that march on to the next best thing. So, Adam's target age group is 18 +, with a few younger exceptions, nothing all that surprising about that. His fan base is solid and now finally again growing.
Secondly, 'out-there' Adam is not going to get the male population, with very few exceptions. It just is a reality that males tend to be more conservative in their music choices in general, and they are also just a bit more sensitive to the whole OTT element, the cheese factor, the sleaze factor, in their reaction. The music industry and the decision makers are male.
Now, once Adam has won, is mainstream, is established, watch them all follow in line. Happened that way with Elvis, with MJ, with Bowie, with Queen, etc. But that is about 10 years away for him, and meanwhile, we who are already on board, need to get him there. He will win in the end. Quoting Cassie's signature: First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
Playing the duality theme generally works for Adam, but it only works on TV. On radio, that contrast just gets lost, especially on top40, when you try to stay fast paced, dance and rhythm oriented, which contradicts that intent.
RCA could have chosen a far more TV oriented promotion, and they would not have had to spend 5 million dollars on it. But I don't believe they even spent one million and they ran with the wrong songs. And that was unexpected, and to me, not understandable for an artist, who they said was still in development. I think they never tried to get Adam. And they never had a plan.
