I was not watching it, but given that there were earlier comments here: There seem to be more people who are not liking all the comments about the 'Sound of Music' show.

I think, there are certain shows that just should not be touched. Sound of Music is such a classic, that imo nobody could improve upon it, because all the original imperfections have been internalized and made whole by generations who have watched it the way it was first recorded.
This new version probably was an attempt that should not have been tried and so the outcome is understandable. Tbh, I am not watching, because I don't want to overlay the original with something new, and I did not even grow up with this film.
Saw it the first time in the US as an adult, in Austria this film is not known and certainly not celebrated. And the songs are not Austrian, they are American, with the exception of Edelweiss, of course.
Given that the other topic running through this thread is the Queen videos, I was thinking, how much a shock to the system it may be for some Queen fans to see Adam singing these songs and performing them his way. Just like I do not want to expose myself to a new version of Sound of Music at this time, they do not want any new version of live Queen songs, no matter who is singing.
Still should not be uttered as a critique on Adam, just like this should not be targeted at C. U., but I guess, this is the way, some people show their disappointment of a dream that got destroyed.
And I remember that Paul Rogers got a lot of critique too, it is only now, after the fact, that some Queen fans idolize him. I never heard that while he was still fronting the band.
Personally, I am going back to Queen + AL videos for now, and I am ignoring red light Glee and reworked musicals, tonight. Have a good night!

Okay. Point taken. I agree. If casting Carrie and Stephen gets an audience for a live musical, and opens the door to more, I will support it, for sure. (But, I don't really have to like their singing, do I?) |
