I always like to point out that I know nothing about the music business before I opine, but I think that being seen as a 'Star" has been important to Adam's very successful career, a career that has outshone his sales record to a degree that I find interesting. I think the fact that he doesn't open for others, but can bring in respectable crowds on his own is an important part of his star persona. Having a successful tour right out the gate was extremely valuable for his image. Opening for another artist would be a step backwards IMO. Now the media often treats him like a peer to Katy, Miley, etc. Look at how his attendance at Britney's Vegas opening, called an "A" list star along with this likes of Katy. I guess I'm not seeing the "A list" thing yet. Sure, he gets reported about online a lot. But, the mainstream media still does not include him with the likes of Katy Perry, Adam Levine, etc. I see a pic of him online from the Spears opening, but not a mention (or pic) in a mainstream mag like People. I honestly don't see how opening for someone huge on a limited basis would hurt his image at all. He has virtually no radio presence, what could it hurt?
Not a big deal, though, really. A couple radio hits could get him there. Hopefully, this time his label will get it done.
eta---Having said all this, Glee is an incredible gig for him. Hope to see more of these high profile things this year
Since I am a card carrying member of the Glamnation, I read every obscure blog that mentions Adam so am probably getting a skewed view of his star status. Not that online sources are not important when more Americans get their news online than from print. TV is number one still, but online is growing fast especially for young people. I do think that his stint on Glee was treated on par with Demi's in some more mainstream sources? Can't back that up, more an impression. In my uneducated opinion, opening for a high profile act when you have been in the business for several years says you need help in building a fan base. Luckily Adam has other opportunities like Glee and maybe a Queen mini tour to build his fan base. For example, this week Adam was on CW again slaying Queen songs with the re-airing iHeart concert which must have sparked some interest. Adam does his part my grabbing these opportunities and preforming fabulously. Hoping that the new label will do a much better job with new album, they couldn't do much worse.

Here come some Danniel McKnight's pics! First pic! I've been waiting for her pics! Danniel McKnight CPC @dannielm 1h @adamlambert @shoshannastone @winstarworld @mist_winstar Photo-largest group of Manberts at a preparty to date RT! twitpic.com/dqzema
ETA:
Danniel McKnight CPC @dannielm 13m @adamlambert @shoshannastone @winstarworld @mist_WinStar there were many more that didn't make it to the party!
This photographer, Danniel McKnight, was sitting next to me in AA 7 with her big camera with the long lens. Security never once approached her. She gave me her business card afterwards and told me she had about 1,000 pics that she would go thru and post the best of, but might take a few days. The guy in the center of the above pic with the top hat was sitting right in front of her in the high roller seats. Other than dodging his hat when he would stand up, she had an obstructed view of Adam....so hopefully more quality pics are coming.

Agree. No to an opening act. I usually skip them and arrive in time for the act I am actually paying money, fighting traffic, and being scalped for parking in order to see live. To me, opening acts have always been "fillers" to make it worth the time, money and effort to see a live show. Audiences expect two to three hours or "entertainment", but most don't pay any attention to anyone but the main attraction. Of course, for those who are actually there for the opening act, and are listening and watching, Adam would be very impressive, but I don't want him to have to work so hard to just get the attention of fans of another artist. He feeds off our energy, and the dynamic would be very different as an opening act performer. Plus, no pop star out there would want to go on stage after Adam sang if they have any ear for music. Even Adam's Wicked cast mates didn't want to sing after him at the Karaoke bar, cuz he was too good. Nope, I would prefer smaller venues and less super stardom to trying to beg an audience from another pop star. IMO. You can state your opinion as well, but, nothing will change how I feel about this. ITA and will add that even with the "moderate" success of FYA album Adam sold out venues here in Oz that much bigger US artists didnt (cough Jason Mraz, cough Carrie Underwood...). A co-headlining tour with another strong artist maybe, but not as support act for any of the pop girls.

I've got to agree with bullsfan. I think print media is still important to lots of people and wish he'd appear in Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, etc., and online on the main pages of CNN, EW, etc. to me it seems many or most of his online media mentions are on what are basically blogs, or in places where you really need to dig to find the articles. I think his management is doing a great job keeping him in the public eye, though, and positioning him to be ready when his new music comes out. Exactly what I was trying to say If I wasn't online checking blogs, I wouldn't know what was up with him. Of course, I am in the Midwest where he pretty much doesn't exist. Happily, though, a new label and what looks to be a busy spring on Glee are awesome things to look forward to.
