I both like and dislike HCJ. For the most part he gives very good critiques and then there are the times he's sort of an annoying know-it-all smart ass. That said...I am glad he's a judge and hope he keeps it about the singing.
Glad to see some of the changes, especially the limited voting. Love the workshop idea.
Adam did goooood!

Not saying I don't like him--think he gives meaningful criticism. Just thought he was off the mark with Emily. She looks like a wholesome girl next door, but doesn't have to limit her song choices to the Good Ship Lollipop. (RIP Shirley Temple Black) Yeah....some of his criticism was on target but I'm not understanding the singling her out on the lyrics. My reaction was ...WTF! But that's just how I feel. It was inexcusable imo and it's what is often called 'slut shaming'. Criticize her performance okay but making her recite innocuous lyrics to embarrass her over the open sexuality of her song was an ugly thing to do. Haley (21) sang House of the Rising Sun and Adam wanted to give us every inch of his love soon after turning 27. At what age did he pass the zone of being forced to then recite the lyrics and be asked if that's what he wants to be singing about (disapproval all over the judge's face)? Harry went from hero to zero for me. The one time I'm glad J Lo was there.

[exhaustedly drags in] 14-hour work day. So tired I could cry. Can someone give me the 2-line version of how things are going? 1 hour of commercials, 4 minutes of Adam, more adrenalin in ten women than the entire Olympics. Caps etc. coming in..ninjas on the job. Don't cry. 2 lines.. WOW VIV you said it all and in two lines..

Mad about Harry! really thought the judges were very good tonight.
On the Emily/Harry issue, she had sung the song earlier in the competition and he questioned the lyric appropriateness then, she chose to sing the song again and had not prepared a response to the question she had to know would come again, fail on her part. But, I like her voice and style - one of my favs.

Interesting that some of you really don't like Harry. He doesn't pull any punches. He has his own opinions. But he also has some very good points about song interpretation, the meaning and appropriateness of lyrics, pushing too hard, shouting, and intonation. I find it refreshing compared to season after season of meaningless pablum for judges' comments. IMO. hahaha...sure! It's wonderful to hear some critique instead of constant praise...but you know, it is good when you happen to agree....but when he has the opposite opinion....anyway... I have a "big decision" to make: to watch or not to watch tomorrow...Olympics are looking more and more attractive Idol? Olympics? Hmmmmm. I think it is time for a book. I would much prefer a judge have an opposite opinion from me than to babble without substance and say everything is great. Or say, you were under a lot of pressure and nervous. Duh! And from a singer's perspective, part of technique, drill and practice is to be able to control your breathing, your phrasing, your tone and your intensity in nerve-wracking situations. Not saying that trained singers don't fall prey to nerves. They do. But the listener rarely can hear them in the performance. Control and consistency are two of the hallmarks of training. I don't mean to sound critical of these girls. They don't have the training. They don't have the background and experience. That's how Idol wants them. Putty that they can mold to create a "star" on national TV. That's what they are casting for. Given where these girls are coming from, and the style of singing Idol chooses and the audience votes for, they did a good job tonight. Again, it just makes me marvel that they ever put Adam thru. So glad they did. I think Idol is probably glad as well. He makes them look good every time he is on the program, and every time he talks about Idol he gives them props.

I had no trouble with what she sang . She did a great job. Also the ridiculous comment by our country singer about not practicing in a mirror.. I had to practice in a mirror when I did musicals in college.. Is he kidding? Thank you JLO for giving the girl some praise.

For what it is worth:
I cried all the way through MK's song. I could feel her emotion like waves Next I like Emily. She has a rich voice and she did a great job on that song (despite Harry) I hate country music but I think Jessica has a great voice for country. Lastly: Marielle, Bria, and Majesty Rose in no special order.
Adam was terrific. He was so into mentoring. He was mentoring with his face and body with each singer. So cute. He really took his job seriously.

lyrics - just for grins and giggles: "Paris (Ooh La La)"
You got me down on the floor So what'd you bring me down here for? You got me down on the floor So what'd you bring me down here for?
If I was a man I'd make my move If I was a blade I'd shave you smooth If I was a judge I'd break the law And if I was from Paris If I was from Paris I would say Ooh la la la la la la la [4x]
You got me up on your swing So when you gonna shake that thing? You got me up on your swing So when you gonna shake that thing?
If I was a man I'd make my move If I was a blade I'd shave you smooth If I was a judge I'd break the law And if I was from Paris If I was from Paris I would say Ooh la la la la la la la [4x]
If I was a man I'd make my move If I was a blade I'd shave you smooth If I was a judge I'd break the law And if I was from Paris If I was from Paris I would say Ooh la la la la la la la

She should be able to sing what she wants. When the country boys sing about picking up women in their pick up trucks and being drunk, is he going to shame them into how inappropriate drinking and driving is?! Bet not! Overall, I like him, but then he does stuff like this and I can't stand him. Last year, he practically made one of the girls cry. He really does come off as arrogant, to me.
