Gelly @14gelly 24m Drag King Covers Adam Lambert As Part Of Kadena Air Base Gay Fundraiser www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=17968&MediaType=1&Category=26#.UxSqFEzl7Wp.twitter … via @ontopmag
Among those performing in a drag fundraiser Saturday on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa was a drag king performing songs from Adam Lambert and Chris Brown. Six service members – some gay, some straight – performed for a capacity crowd at the Rocker NCO Club to raise funds for the recently formed Okinawa chapter of OutServe-SLDN, a group which advocates on behalf of the military's LGBT community. The show is believed to be the first on a military installation to feature drag queens. “We didn't think there was much of a desire for an event like this on the island but it has actually blown up,” Navy LT. Marissa Greene, co-chapter leader of OutServe Okinawa, told Stars and Stripes.

IMO Adam is just a little ahead of his time. He seems to be at the beginning of a wave trend before people know if they like it. Adam is bored with that trend before it become main stream. An example outside of music is this weeks Project Runway. They did a Steampunk Challenge. They explained Steampunk first appeared about 4 years ago. Four years ago is 2010. GNT 2010 used a Steampunk fashion theme. Adam is on to the next thing - Formal ware that isn't black. The Today show said men were starting to bring color to the red carpet. One person commented saying next year men might even be wearing patterns. I used fashion examples but I think this is also true with music. RCA kept trying to fit Adam with what is happening currently. That is not where Adam needs to be. Adam's masterpiece is still in him. His look and voice are only getting better. Adam needs the right person to pull that #1 record out of him. He has the right connections now. He is away from the homogenized sounds of Dr Luke. I'm willing to bet Adam 3 will be the next trend. The only question is will Adam be able to capitalize on it? "Adam's masterpiece is still in him." Perfectly said! I have always felt this too!

"Adam's masterpiece is still in him." And some of the existing material could have a chance at becoming at least well known, if it were used in a film or commercial today, exactly because it was ahead of its time. It probably would be better understood now, than it was two or four years ago, respectively. Trespassing would be great for a cartoon, Kickin in could be in a movie drinking scene Outlaws of love in a gay rights film Chokehold in a love drama the possibilities are endless. Also, on a smaller less commercial scale, but still quite entertaining I am just waiting for a Johnny Weir fan video set to Strut. But having said all that, I am also looking to the future for the break-through hit or album and think it will eventually happen. As demonstrated by Pharrel's interview, he does have the industry acceptance and attention. It is the vast public that are just not getting it yet, and some in the business know it. Clearly not the folks at RCA, but then they are running some accounting firm over there right now. One important aspect is how the media treats him, and while the totally disrespectful junk from a few years ago has thankfully gone away, there is still a lot of belittling kind of treatment going on. I think that the Queen concerts will actually help Adam with that part in the American market, because the whole "but he is not Freddie" debate on forums is imo less of an issue here. Americans tend to move on more readily, British are a bit more prone to being traditionalist and to looking backwards. The big question is what A3 holds in store for the market and how it will be received. It will be exiting to see.
