Cassie, don't you think IIHY is pretty much cotton candy fluff! It is Adam's voice that raises the bar. And it always will!

All this forward motion is making me dizzy.... need this: I like green ribbons, sometimes it is good to be part of a tribe. eta: I'm confused, did MM work with Adam before or did Adam just use a song. don't remember producer credit anywhere. Writing and producing credit for WWFM and IIHY! Thanks! I did like those songs and in casual conversation, anecdotal evidence, people knew WWFM!

interesting in that to me they all sound alike: same arrangement, same drums, same sound... May be the clips were chosen this way of course..and obviously this is the sound our radio loves, so be it! The voice will be better than any of these Sigh. Like everyone else who loves Adam, I want him to have the commercial success he wants and deserves. Max Martin certainly has written and produced lots of mega-hits for a variety of artists over the years. The serious musician and singer in me just cringes listening to these songs. Catchy, upbeat, but boring and, to me, very generic sounding. Nothing musically interesting in most of them. Lyrically, most of these seem rather banal. And the singers bring nothing original or extraordinary to the mix. Really, it could be anyone singing the numbers. Or just use studio session singers. We know that Adam can sing the hell out of any song and raise it to a new level. But cotton candy fluff is still cotton candy fluff in the end. Fun, but not very interesting to listen to or, I would imagine, to perform. Frankly, this is just me, just my opinion, I am sure most of you will disagree, but I hate to think of Adam getting homogenized and trivialized to this level in order to get a big radio hit and achieve superstar pop status. I hate for his vocal talent, his amazing ability to interpret a song and move me emotionally, his ability to lose himself in song and carry me right along with him.... I hate for that to be wasted and abandoned. I hope I am totally wrong, and Max with Adam produce some amazing songs that blow me away and show off what Adam can do like no other singer out there today. Crossing my fingers. Hey, it COULD happen. And if not, Adam will hopefully have the mega-hits he wants and all the benefits that go with it. Sigh. ETA: Everyone is so ecstatic over this collaboration. I do not want to rain on your parades. Should I delete my post? No Cassie...don't delete your post. I really do understand where you are coming from because what you call 'cotton candy fluff' I call 'bubble gum' music! We have the same idea. But I keep thinking Adam can take the song MM writes with him and do his 'rock edge' magic with it. I'm really hoping MM really 'gets' Adam and together they can make a great edgy rock n' roll song, with a great hook, and a kindof/sortof pop song that brings something really new to the music scene!

The money and status of being played on the radio will open even more doors for him. He's playing the game and, I think at one point, he said something about needing to relinquish some of the control. jmo.

Meant to be a summer good time party song, right? I know it was a pretty good hit for him. He certainly did the most he could with it vocally. Not one of his songs that I choose to listen to. It is not on my "favorites" playlist.

And Cassie I get where you are coming from but I am both a realist and greedy. I want more music from Adam and in order for us to get it, he has to make MARKETABLE music which may not be as deep as some would like. And I believe in the power of positive thinking so I am going to believe that this is a match made in heaven and Adam is going to knock our socks off

Cassie, I kinda agree with you, but he needs to break through on radio before he can do whatever he wants. And, he loves pop music. My main hope is that MM is moving with the times and the way popular music is changing. His pop tunes are a little dated.

You can put all the sizzle on it vocally that you like but if there is no substance underneath it will still feel disposable. Not all "pop" music lacks substance and can think of many songs that have been elevated by the singer but there is a particular alchemy that happens when the singer and the song meet on the same plane - I think that is what we all want for Adam irrespective of genre it falls into.

I totally understand the necessity of playing the game, having a long term goal, and the end justifying the means. Believe me, as a musician and performer, I get that you have to give the audience what THEY want, not necessarily what YOU want to perform. I did not mean to come off as critical of Adam's choices or even his direction. He is doing what he has to do. And making the best of it better than most anyone else. He has talked a lot about balancing out artistic integrity and business demands. I am sure he will do his best on A3 to include as much artistry as he can fit into the top-40 themed album. If it positions him to be able to do more artistically creative, original and challenging things as a result, I will enjoy those immensely.

If I Had You is one of my favorite Adam songs and I love how he sings it - he infuses it with such joy and it makes me happy! I'm thrilled and excited that Adam is working with Max Martin!!!!!!!!
