Friends, Adam Lambert, Blaine & Kurt in trouble
Glee New New York
Nooo! Adam Lambert’s last appearance on Glee? New New York synopsis & spoilers!
We have been practically addicted to watching Adam Lambert on Glee this year, and while we’ve always known the cameo stint would come to an end, we weren’t ready for it to come around so soon.
There has been no official confirmation and no official source has revealed exactly how long the American Idol star will be continuing on the hit Fox musical, however some insiders have claimed that the April 1st episode of Glee will be Adam’s last….for now.
The For Your Entertainment star has been a massive hit in the role of Elliot ‘Starchild’ Gilbert and the chemistry between he and Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) has been a true joy to watch.
A rumoured synopsis states that Blaine and Sam will join the previously mentioned performers in the Big Apple for the episode and they’ll be moving into Rachel and Kurt’s pad.
Santana will have moved out and the show will start with the highly anticipated Friends style opening sequence.
Starchild is of course in a band with Kurt and in the instalment titled New New York he will team up with Hummel for a duet, which is said to be pretty epic. No surprises there.
After yesterday’s “100″ episode and next week’s “New Directions” instalment, the action moves away from McKinley High and down to New York, where Kurt, Starchild, Rachel and Santana will really get their chance to shine.
Instead of welcoming the chance to spend more time with Blaine, the new living situation apparently causes tension between he and Kurt and while Hummel tries to insist that it’s Sam on his sofa that’s the problem, it starts to look like it might be his man he has issues with.
Blaine meanwhile suffers from an attack of the green eyed monster and reportedly has it out with Starchild, about his deepening friendship with Kurt.
Lastly, Rachel gets her own personal chauffeur while Artie gets his laptop stolen in New York.

Tove Lo Debuts Talks 'Truth Serum' EP, Working With Adam Lambert
By Andrew Hampp, N.Y. | March 19, 2014 3:02 PM EDT
The Adam part….
"When you live in a safe environment like I grew up in, you need the adrenaline to come from somewhere," says the Swedish pop artist.
Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo first made a major Stateside impression last April with the self-release of her single "Habits," an all-too-honest (and all-too-hooky) account of using hook-ups and substance abuse to cope with a breakup. "I get home I got the munchies / binge on all my Twinkies / throw up in the tub / and I go to sleep" is one of the tamest eight-bar segments, and the brand-new music video for the song, released Monday (Mar. 17), makes its emotionally dissociative themes all the more explicit.
Nearly a year after the release of "Habits," Tove Lo is poised for a U.S. breakthrough following the March 3 release of her debut EP "Truth Serum," which more than earns its title with four more refreshingly candid accounts of the thoughts that go through Tove Lo's mind in the aftermath of a fractured relationship.
…
In the meantime, expect her songwriting to pop up on upcoming albums from Cher Lloyd, Girls Aloud and perhaps even Adam Lambert, who spent some time in the studio with Tove Lo recently. "He came to Sweden, he's been working with all the producers, the little collective out there, and having a really good time," Tove Lo says, declining to share further details on the newly label-free Lambert's next project. "When you hear the fully produced stuff from the studio, that's one thing, but his voice is insane. I couldn't believe it."

OUT Magazine: Most Eligible Gay Bachelors
Added by Julie Mahfood on March 19, 2014.
Q3 note: Not actually news but I really lked the description of Adam….
For the fourth year in a row OUT magazine held a voter-based contest where readers chose from a compiled list to select their most favorite eligible gay bachelors. The list was whittled down from 100 to the top ten. The winning bachelor in both 2012 and 2013 was Chris Colfer. Colfer is in the magazine’s top ten again in 2014, but did not make No. 1 bachelor this year.
There is a fair bit of overlap. It is not just Colfer who made the top ten more than once. One wonders if there is a shortage of eligible and cute gay guys, or if the staff at OUT have their own preferences….
The 2014 call for votes was put out before Valentine’s Day. OUT magazine’s larger list included Jason Collins, Paul Iannaco, Marc Jacobs, Phil Jimenez, Ricky Martin and Alexander Wang. When all the votes were in, here’s who made it all the way this year:
1. Adam Lambert: This singer is a lot of guys’ favorite, clearly. The singer/songwriter, now 32, will be touring with the band Queen this summer as their lead singer. Although no one will ever be Freddie Mercury, Lambert has his own fans. His first album For Your Entertainment sold nearly 200,000 copies in its first week. He was the principal writer on his second album, as well as executive producer.

'We Will Rock You' delivers rollicking Queen songs amid rebellion plot
3.19.14 • By Daniel Durchholz Special to the Post-Dispatch
As with most dystopian visions of the future, the landscape of “We Will Rock You,” the jukebox musical based on the songs of Queen, is pretty easy to recognize in the present. A world dominated by corporate overlords, in which young minds are manipulated by “radio gaga/video goo goo/Internet caca” — that’s already here, right?
…..
“We Will Rock You,” created by British comedian and writer Ben Elton, celebrates Queen classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Will Rock You” and of course “Bohemian Rhapsody” by wrapping them in the rebellion plot and throwing in a love story for good measure.
Also included are numerous rock and pop references — Elton recently updated the script for U.S. audiences — some of which land while others seem a tad obvious and others misfire altogether. In one instance, a character speculates that “American Idol” killed rock. A fair assessment, perhaps, but real Queen fans might know that surviving band members Brian May and Roger Taylor recently announced a summer tour featuring “Idol” alum Adam Lambert standing in for Mercury.

91 days to go…
3.19.14 by Q3
There are 91 days until Chicago…so I thought I would start a countdown. And since I am counting down to the Queen + Adam Lambert Tour!! What could be betterer than possible songs for Queen and Adam to perform in concert?
Assuming they change out a few songs during the tour, and do 22 – 24 unique songs a night (excluding the guitar and drum solos), there could be around 30 songs performed in these concerts. And hopefully, I get a lot of them in my countdown. But that won’t be easy -- the Queen catalog is so big, the potential cover list is almost a universe, and there is a chance that they could also decide to perform an Adam song.
#91 ““See What A Fool I've Been” (1969)
Written by Brian May for Smile. Queen performed the song live for a few years before it was released as the b-side of Seven Seas Of Rhye.
This song was performed by Smile in 1969.
First Queen concert performance: King's College, London, England on March 10, 1972
Last Queen concert performance: New London Theatre Centre, London, England on October 6, 1977
***
I am not a fan of comparing Adam and Freddie but they have one thing in common that demands comparison – they could both take one song and transform it almost infinitely to suit the mood and music. One great example of Freddie’s ability to transform a song was “See What A Fool I've Been”.
And when I think of this song, I can just picture Adam doing a campy, high-style, version of this blue-inspired song.
****
OK this seems like an unlikely song to show up on a setlist for QAL -- but it is Queen's blues song. And they are kicking on the show in Chicago. And Adam really could do something with this song.
First a bit of background
Note: Occasionally I find something that is so well written on Wikipedia, that I find no way to improve it. So thank you to the anonymous authors of this wiki entry:
"See What A Fool I've Been" was the B-side to Queen's 1974 single "Seven Seas of Rhye". It was inspired by "That's How I Feel", a blues song by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Originally released in 1974,[citation needed] it was re-released in 1991 as one of the bonus tracks on the re-release of Queen II. It was described as "a slow crawl that's the closest Queen ever came to blues".
This song dated from the pre-Queen band Smile. Brian May heard the song "The Way I Feel" by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee on a TV program, but at the time he never caught the name of the song or band. He remembered the riff and some lyrics and brought them to the band, then proceeded to write "See What A Fool I've Been" around it.
It was not recorded until the Queen II sessions, though it was a live staple since Queen's formation. The B-side version features a vocal delivery from Freddie Mercury that could be best described as burlesque in nature, rather than the more straightforward delivery of the live and BBC versions which were officially released in 2011. Also, there are lyric changes between the B-side, BBC and live versions (with references to a "train to Georgia" and a "Greyhound bus at dawn" not heard in B-side version, whereas the live versions have no "sailor boy" or "barking dog" lyrics). The reason for these differences has never been explained.
In 2004, May was contacted by a fan who had discovered which song "See What A Fool I've Been" had been based on, as it had long been a mystery. May officially confirmed "The Way I Feel" as the inspiration after the fan sent him the recently released CD containing the song (along with a note explaining how it was tracked down by looking up song lyrics rather than listening to every recording by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee). The explanation of the song's history appears on the February 2004 Soapbox entry of May's official website.[3] May said he planned to contact their estates to work out the long-overdue royalty issues.

Here is a very detailed account of the history of this song’s composition from Queenpedia.com
Again, Chris Smith’s recollection of events differs slightly; “I was not as Tim Staffell suggested sacked from the band; I resigned. If Brian May, Roger Taylor and Tim did all get together one day in 1969 and decide I wasn’t right for the band, then they never told me! It is true I was only in Smile for a very short time, but this means I can remember the sequence of events quite clearly”. For example, Smith contests that his “huge pink Vox Continental organ” came out of Tim’s imagination. I had a Selmer Capris, and it was grey!”
However, “As Tim rightly pointed out… I was already steeped in American Rhythm and Blues and Soul music. I was more interested in Muddy Waters than the Who and Led Zeppelin. My idea of starting a band in London at that point was to try and be the next Rolling Stones, while the rest of Smile, were as Tim said, Britrockers. I had wanted us to be a Blues based band, but I very quickly realised that it wasn’t going in that direction, so I left amicably”.
With or without Smith, Smile saw the Albert Hall gig as the zenith of their achievements to date (although 1984 had played the same venue a few years before). Their short set included versions of Bobby Darrin’s “If I Were A Carpenter”, Tommy James & The Shondells “Mony Mony”, Brian May’s ubiquitous Blues number “See What A Fool I've Been”, plus Tim Staffell's “Earth”.
“See What A Fool I've Been” has always been something of a mystery. According to Tim “The song was an old blues number I first heard on a Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee album. Brian came up with a new arrangement, based on the piece, rather than a completely original song”. Asked to elaborate Tim continued; “It's hard to be too determined about this, but I'm sure I had an album with this track. The trouble is, I used the record swap stores quite a lot, and didn't hang on to albums for that long. Crazy really, since one invariably regrets this practice. I have always enjoyed Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee. They had an easy, rolling style that always felt good to me, even with some of the more melancholy songs, of which this wasn't really a particularly good example… but I fear I might need deep hypnosis to draw it out!”
However, Brian May stated; “This song has remained a mystery to me over the years, too. It is based on an old Blues number. When I tried to find out the original writer at the time, and again a few years later, I drew a blank. My recollection is that I heard it on a TV show, performed, I think by Muddy Waters… I just remembered what I could and made up the rest, especially most of the words”. Tim now concedes; “It’s got me wondering, perhaps it's a line from something else.... I didn't think so, though” The mists of time may now obscure the original inspiration behind the track, but it certainly lends itself to the likes of Cream’s “Sitting On Top Of The World” (Previously released on the 1968 “Wheels On Fire” album, and also performed in their legendary Albert Hall concert which was filmed and screened in cinemas all over Europe).
Brian has since reported on his official website that See What A Fool I've Been was actually inspired by the track 'That's How I Feel' by Sonny Brown, Terry McGhee & Big Bill Broonzy - so that clears up at least one ancient mystery!

The inspiration and original song
“The Way I Feel” by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee
This is the 1958 London Sessions recording of this song. My guess is that it was close to the version Brian May heard.
More about Terry and McGhee....
Unlike other musicians I've featured so far, Terry and McGhee didn't come from the Missisissippi Delta but from North Carolina and Tennessee, and so favored the Appalachian region's Piedmont blues style, which was more open to influence from other genres like ragtime and country. (Read more about Piedmont blues here, here, and here.) Though they were most successful when they stayed close to their Appalachian roots, McGhee and Terry first started working together in the New York City folk scene, where they also led a big-band-style jump blues group and appeared in the original Broadway productions of Finian's Rainbow and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. (McGhee would later have a small role in the 1987 movie Angel Heart as well.)
Born in 1911 and 1915 respectively, Terry and McGhee got their start in music partly because of childhood handicaps that made them unable to work in the factory or farm jobs that were all that was available to most black men of the time—a paralyzed leg from polio in McGhee's case, and blindess in Terry's. They both became protégés of the guitarist Blind Boy Fuller, and became partners upon Fuller's death. McGhee was the guitarist in the duo, while Terry played the harmonica and supplemented his singing with unforgettable whoops and hollers.

“See What A Fool I've Been”
The song was written by Brian for Smile, the London-based blues rock band best known as the predecessor to Queen. The band was formed in 1968 by Brian May. It included Tim Staffell as singer and bassist. In 1969 Roger Taylor joined Smile on drums. They recorded only six songs and disbanded in 1970.
After Queen was formed in 1970-1971, they continued to play some of the songs written for Smile including "See What A Fool I've Been".

We have a bit of Adam singing the blues, most recently, his cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” comes to mind. But here is one of my favorite Adam blues covers, in this case a metal-blues classic.

Q3’s Soapbox: (Inspired by Dr. Bri!)
I hope that someday, the original blues composers get full credit for their work. In the UK, songs were freely borrowed, as if they were some form of folk or heritage music. These songs were not traditional song but modern compositions. In the US segregation and sharp business practices, and lack or access to proper or any legal counsel, resulted in many blues composers losing the rights to their compositions or receiving ridiculously low royalties for both songwriting and recordings.
Many British artists “borrowed” large parts of songs from African American artists – primarily blues artists. The UK performers were usually credited as sole songwriters and earned all the royalties. In the meantime, in the US, ”race radio” and segregation meant that the vast majority of white Americans never heard the original American blues versions and thought that these were original compositions. In the past 50 years, bit by bit, some of these songwriters have received proper credit, and a few have received royalties. The most famous case may be Ledd Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” which is now properly credited in part to the original American songwriter, Willie Dixon who composed "You Need Love (recorded in 1962 by Muddy Waters). I cannot find any information about whether Brian every contacted the families of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, but I hope he did. Willie Dixon and his family have now succeeded in getting judicial resolution of most of his contract and royalty issues, and regained control of his massive song catalog.
In the US, many blues, R&B and rock and roll songs were written by bluesmen who never received royalties or credit for their work. For example, Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, an American Delta (Mississippi) blues singer, songwriter and guitarist received songwriting credit and was recognized by Elvis Presley who was responsible for making this obscure blues singer famous for a short period of time, but Crudup was never fairly compensated. Crudup is best known outside blues circles for writing songs such as "That's All Right" (1946), "My Baby Left Me" and "So Glad You're Mine", later covered by Elvis Presley and dozens of other artists. Others who covered his songs: Rod Stewart, John Mellencamp. Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, the Beatles, Slade, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and Elton John. Since he never received proper royalties for his songwriting or recordings, and died in poverty in 1974. This

1. If you have a Ticketmaster ticket, you can transfer it on Ticketmaster for most concerts (not Auburn Hills, MI)
2. If you purchased a VIP Fan Package, the merchandise will be shipped to the purchaser’s address. If you wish to give this to the buyer with the ticket, remember you will need to mail it.

We don't have a lot of rules here but they are essential. Just as a reminder...
Adamtopia Guidelines
The Adamtopia guidelines are quite simple. To be a member of Adamtopia...
1. You must be an Adam fan.
2. You must be respectful of other members. Feel free to express your opinion, but be glitterier and golden.
3. Strive to be funny, entertaining or informative when you post. Avoid posting something that has already been posted.
4. Never question anyone's right to post, the appropriateness of a topic or define the proper way for an Adam fan or Adamtopia Member to behave.
Let the moderators do their job.
More rules will be added if the need arises but, if everyone follows these rules, we will not need a lot of rules.
