Cassie, I kinda agree with you, but he needs to break through on radio before he can do whatever he wants. And, he loves pop music. My main hope is that MM is moving with the times and the way popular music is changing. His pop tunes are a little dated. I wouldn't know what is "current" but from that 14 mins retrospective starting in the 1990s and up to 2012 - they all sounded the same, I noticed no progression or noticeable sound change... BUT: Adam is happy and exited = I hope it'll be great! Out of the two albums I dislike only three songs (WWFM, BTIKM, NCOE), and none of them had Adam's input. I trust him! He is actively participating in the writing/producing process = the result should be awesome!

As a kiwi would love a Adam Lorde Collab. As for Adam being beneath Max Martin or pop music in general. Its the way it is now, people dont listin to radio and go "great voice", a hit song needs to have an immediate hook. Look at most of the songs in Top 40, not neccessarilly great vocals. But has that hook, great beat, and is so catchy it gets stuck in your head. Where in a time wh ere social media really determines what well be a hit, from Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Itunes, Spotify e.t.c. These are the platforms artists use in this day in age. Im not saying having vocal talent is important of course it is, but these days you need more then just a great voice to make it. You really need the complete package, Perry is that, Lorde is that, and Lambert is too. Im not saying Adam should dumb down his music for the sake of a hit, because i think Adams more markatable when hes being true tohimself, clearly his signature is his voice. Just he needs a balance between having artistic integrity and being commercial, maybe after a few hits he can then experiment. Your seeing a shift in change in music from EDM too Alternative Music, hope Adam and Co take advantage of this.

For FYE -- Adam spent one day in NY with Max Martin. He sang the vocals on two tracks that Max Martin and Shellback had already written. The only songwriting involved in that one day appears to have been the lyrics change to IIHY -- kohl liner, boots, etc.
It always seemed like a Mad Lib to me....
So I got my _____ on, Got the right amount of _____ And I'm doing me up with a ____________ And I'm working my strut but I know it don't matter All we need in this world is some love
**
Doing a writing camp for several weeks with Max Martin, his team and great songwriters is on a whole different planet.
1 day in the studio singing vocals versus several weeks working with the #1 hit maker in the world.
***
Max Martin started off in a hard rock band. He likes rock music. He has written and produced rock music, pop-rock music, adult-pop music, adult contemporary, and also written and produced 16 #1 hits.
Katy Perry: "I Kissed a Girl", "Teenage Dream", "California Gurls", "Roar", "Dark Horse"
Britney Spears: "Oops!… I Did It Again", "Stronger", "…Baby One More Time", "Till The World Ends"
Backstreet Boys: "Quit Playing Games With My Heart", "I Want It That Way", "Larger Than Life", "As Long As You Love Me", "Shape of my Heart"
Kelly Clarkson: "Since You've Been Gone", "My Life Would Suck Without You"
N'Sync: "Tearin' Up My Heart", "It's Gonna Be Me", "I Want You Back"
Taylor Swift: "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", "I Knew You Were Trouble", "22″
One of Max Martin's biggest strengths is writing songs that suit an artist.
I am very happy about this because this a writing and production team centered on Adam, that includes Adam.

But it is not so black and white for me. I always skip -- BTIKM, NCOE, and A Loaded Smile. None are Adam songs. (He had a little input in ALS but got no writing credit.) But there are several tracks that Adam did not write on FYE that I really like. BTIKM (awful) and "Can't Let You Go" (miraculous) were both were written by Claude Kelly. I like IIHY in all forms but both IIHY and WWFM have moved up in my esteem over time and mostly because of Adam's live performances -- and I love the IIHY music video.
