At the end of yesterday's thread I noticed people starting to worry about the content of the American Idol/Adam threads on TWoP. I saved all the first Adam thread and most of the second to .mht files some time ago, as I find those threads to be invaluable historical references. Of course I will be catching up with the remainder of thread #2 before the site goes belly up. I have this stored on three computers, an external hard drive, and with Carbonite, so feel it is quite safe. I know it needs to be stored in several places just to be sure it will remain somewhat accessible, and storage here is an excellent idea. But given the previous loss of Planet Fierce stuff I think the more people that store this information the better So go grab it but rest assured that I have a personal copy as well. As far as all of Jacob's recaps, there are pdf's of Terra's compilations floating around, of which I also have copies. I think I can email them- they are about 3.4MB each (there are two), though.

Talons Take:
In The Lap Of The Gods
Written by: Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar, acoustic guitar Roger Taylor - drums, screams
- Although a shorter song, it is in terms of the vocals one of the steps towards Bohemian Rhapsody. It is not quite as complex as March Of The Black Queenbefore it or Bohemian Rhapsody after it, it is in the same ballpark.
- The band slowed Freddie's vocal recording a bit to give it the altered ominous feel - they didn't try to replicate that live.
- Played live as part of the medley through 1975 and then dropped from the set never to be played again.
QUOTES:
- "I was beginning to to learn a lot on Sheer Heart Attack. We were doing a lot of things which were to be used on future albums. Songs like ‘In The Lap Of The Gods,’ yes, I suppose. Working out the harmonies and song structure did help on say something like ‘Bo Rhap’. Somebody said this sounds like Cecil B. De Mille meets Walt Disney or something. More to the the point than The Beach Boys!” – Freddie Mercury – 1977 - BBC"
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSIONS:
1991 HOLLYWOOD REMASTERING ERROR
- NOT essential listening - so much I'm not bothering looking for a YT.
- When Hollywood Records in the US in 1991 remastered the Queen catalogue there was a glitch in the early pressings of this song which omitted a few backing vocals.
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE AT THE RAINBOW - 1974
- A nice video...and more to the reason that Queen fans want to see an official release of the Rainbow concerts! I like the live version without the altered Freddie voice and it is cool to see Roger drumming while doing the ending screams. Wish he did the opening scream live!
PERSONAL NOTES:
- Roger screams like no other and if you listen to the YT clip before you read this you might have had a small heart attack and I apologize!
In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited
Written by: Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- An early forerunner to We Are The Champions this Hey Jude-inspired singalong often closed many concerts of the day.
- It shares very little with it's namesake except perhaps for both songs being about letting things be and not forcing the issues.
- Played live through 1977 when We Are The Champions took over but then was reintroduced for the medley in 1986. It is the rare song that Freddie actually used his falsetto live for. Most songs, he would sing alternate lower notes than go falsetto for reasons only he knows - mostly involving the power of his lower register I believe for as this (and Impromptu which I'll get to later show that he certainly can do falsetto live quite well![/b]
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSIONS:
DIGITAL MASTER SAMPLER EDIT
- NOT essential listening
- From 1994's Digital Master Sampler, the only real difference is the outro is edited down.
UNRELEASED VERSIONS:
EARLY TAKE
- NOT essential listening
- Property of Queen Productions. Yes this is another convention sourced demo. It is instrumental without Brian but does contain some additional piano at the end.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM Day 1 - Day 2-
- I always love that the bigger the crowd, the more comfortable Freddie seemed!!!
HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY
- AUDIO only as the video was taken down.
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE AT THE RAINBOW - 1974
- The performance that is the standard for the others to live up to! - Great looking at Wembley and then coming back to see very young Freddie just getting going.
LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH - 1975
- Another great live early gig although Freddie doesn't use his falsetto in this one.
BRIAN MAY - FREDDIE'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - READING - 1999
- The SAS Band do a lot of performances around Freddie's birthday and anniversary of his death and the like. This year was a real one off when Brian May decided for the first and only time to sing lead vocals on this track.
PERSONAL NOTES: - This is one of the tracks I had hoped QAL were going to do. It's very theatrical, engaging, and powerful. Freddie at his dramatic best!

I do not think there is much chance they will take Queen + Adam Lambert on an extensive world tour, but I have a feeling/hope that they play one last concert in London -- hopefully in O2. Someplace sparkly vs. someplace historic like Hammersmith. It is available most of August 2013. And everyone but Adam lives in the UK. So they have to return. And I am sure they can sell 20,000 tickets in London. I concur that there will be no big world tour. BUT I also feel that there could be 1-2 dates in the UK. For me, I say if it is the last Queen tour (which it could be) why not end it GRANDLY. Wembley Stadium Queen + Adam Lambert + Guests Just something I'd love to see! And I bet that something like that could sell out Wembley. I'm not certain QAL could...but a mini FM Tribute type show with QAL as the centerpiece? That could do it....

He clearly implies that he didn't want Glee to cover this and that it slipped by on 'someone else's watch' He only just manages a little goodwill towards Adam who has raised Justin's profile a couple of times (with Music Again and Glee). He has a perfect right not to want his songs 'covered', of course....

Damn them. How did you make copies of the threads? I've been rereading the Grassy Knoll and the individual episode threads and was saving Adam's specific for another down time. grrr. They say they are archived on the WayBack machine but that seems difficult to access too.
