Ok, I gonna fly blind here because I very uncharacterically am going to post without reading the threads for the last two days, but is that Adam singing in the snippet? Because if so, they have totally processed his voice to be as mediocre as the other members of the Glee cast. I was a big fan of Glee its first season, but as someone who was around for the original rendition of the songs from all the decades, I never really understood why the covers would sell so well--especially covers of songs that were just released a few months earlier (Rihanna's Umbrella, e.g.). And I always bristled at how processed the vocals were. I am apparently a dinosaur who prefers when someone sings into a microphone and the sound comes out unadulterated or when someone goes blam-blam-blam and the notes come right out on a guitar. Bizarre, I know. And Q3, what an eye-opener on your epic commentary on how music gets made these days (if you really want to know--I didn't but suspected and kudos to you for bringing it all into focus!) I am looking forward to Queen and Adam without nets and tracking tapes and I really am foreseeing a return to actual performance and emotion--warts and bad notes and all, like it used be. Prolly totally wrong about that though, lol, won't be the first time! I happen to like the Glee snippet. Processing and all. I do not mind recordings that are modded if it generates an interesting artistic effect. ** But I am here and heading to more than one Q+Adam concert because I love his voice live. And because it is real and different every time. Back in the 70's Queen was also real. When they toured, the setlist rarely changed. The live arrangement were tight and constant. But Freddie was different every time AND the band was different every time -- particularly Brian. And Roger sometimes changed the tempo of songs. There is very little common between Freddie and Adam -- but in one way they are so similar. When on stage, both fed off the energy of the audience. The more positive the audience was, the better the performance. I think Freddie was even more attuned to the energy flow from the audience to him and back to the audience. In comparison, with the notable exceptions of MUSE and Pink, most of concert I have seen lately seemed robotic and so tightly scripted they were more like musical theater than concerts. The productions and choreo are so elaborate that there is little choice. I guess I'm not hearing to "processing". I think Adam can colour his voice pretty much however he wants. Adds grit sometimes. Lightens it up sometimes. Feels like just another colour he is painting this song with. Will reserve judgement til I hear whole thing.

bridgeymah, I think Glee never uses raw vocals. But Adam's vocals so far have had very little done to them on past shows. Sounds to me like most of Rockstar is Adam. (in other words, I agree with you on the tone and color)
I like the bit we have, and I can't wait for the whole thing.

In comparison, with the notable exceptions of MUSE and Pink, most of concert I have seen lately seemed robotic and so tightly scripted they were more like musical theater than concerts. The productions and choreo are so elaborate that there is little choice. I have taken to buying DVDs of concerts to see if I even like an act before deciding to go to an expensive concert. I have to figure in the cost of driving 3-4 hours and vacation if on a week day too. So, the cost is not just the ticket for me. I loved the Pink DVD and really wanted to go to her concert, but when the December Adam concerts were announced, it was a choice between Adam or Pink using up the rest of my yearly vacation. The other person whose concert DVDs I really love, besides Adam of course, is Shakira! She puts on one hell of a show! She is like the Latin version of Pink, but with belly dancing rather than aerial gymnastics. On the other hand, I've seen both GaGa and Brittney concert DVDs played on TV. Brittney's was absolutely boring to me - it all sounded the same, and no dynamics to the music. GaGa's was better, but still I just could not get into it. So, what makes the difference? Adam, Pink, & Shakira all have a bit of a rock edge even though they are considered pop. They all know how to really work the stage and how to move their bodies. But I think there is something else there too that I do not know how to put in words, but I know that there are people here who do!
