4.1.14 Adam's Last Episode of Glee, Post-Modern Album!

RE the twitter party:

I am very happy to see Adam's beautiful, fearless spirit is still alive and kicking. The way he goes about things is like a breath of fresh air to me. (If I could, I would tell him, though, that those who are sorry he is gay are not his fans.)

About the post-modern affair: if it means what I think it means, him creating something different and fresh, regardless of current trends in music and regardless of what anyone might think he should do or what would be rational, if it means him making music according to his heart's and mind's desires, the way he wants it no matter what, he is even bigger than I thought. It's a message, isn't it, that he isn't going to play it safe and he never will. I feel like the post-modern affair tweet was directed to those who thought he should have done that cover album, to those who think he should stick with Queen and should have probably done it from the start (I have evidence to support this), or who think he should stick to this genre or that; to people who think he should simplify his lyrics, and stop using such big words, especially after Trespassing; people who think that he should get a message already and quit trying to be an author; ultimately, to those who think he is just a pretty face and stellar voice and nothing else, and that Adam proving to have brains to match is too much, is pushing it. This is him saying no to all of that. He is intense and ambitious, and that combined with his very lucky hand in the gene share make some people want to bring him down, to see him down, maybe, but I have this deep conviction that that is never going to happen.

About the sonical diversity and disregard for genre: that was the most common objection to his albums, and he is going to do it again. How can one not love him? He obviously doesn't want an even sound and he is not going to do it even if no one ever gets it. He doesn't make music to fit a radio station's profile or a listener's current mood. It is as if all the sounds in his head, and musicians that he admires and whose impact Adam wants to feel and leave a trace of, don't deserve to get silenced or shunned because they don't fit. It's not news that he hates being compartmentalized, or defined, no matter the price. If it takes a genre identification, or sound identification, to make a breakthrough as a complete author, and to prove himself as one, he would rather work on redefining people's (mis)conceptions of what constitutes one than redefine himself. I could never find flaws with his ideas, only with his execution of those ideas, on occasion. For me, it means that his ideas are what brings every sound and word to life and that ultimately, the sexiest part of Adam is not his voice or body, but his brain. It took both his voice and his body to where they are today. The fact that his ideas are often disregarded, misunderstood or remain invisible to many won't stop him from being firstly and foremostly, a thinking man.

About honesty: this part excited me the most. This is the word he used so much when he talked about Trespassing. This is the word he uses to speak about the lyrics. Again, he declares that he will remain loyal to who he is, in spite of some critics, and in spite of a solid number of those who feel that his lyrics should be more aimed to general audiences. To me, it's the most tragic when his own fans feel that he said what he needed to say on Trespassing and that now he can freely move on to less dangerous, more approachable pastures. The reason why I love every word he wrote is not because they are the most beautiful words, but because they are so honest in a world where honesty is very expensive - especially his honesty. He keeps saying that he is honest to a fault and the computer pun he made, of it being his default setting, could be read as a simple explanation that he is not a machine to have his settings changed for anyone's whim, not even his own. So, yes, he is going to keep being honest, whether anyone likes it or not. 

I loved this twitter party. I don't know anything about how Adam's new album is going to sound like and what the lyrics are going to be about, but I got a glimpse into the ideas behind it and they are very much to my liking. When Q3 wrote about the twitter party on the front page and when she pointed out the three key phrases: post-modernism, sonical diversity and honesty, she also said, "I think anyone who follows Adam expected all of this.
" I would like to politely disagree - I think rarely anyone expected this. They expected Max Martin radio hits with neutral lyrics, genre and sonically specific. Who knows, maybe we do get that for the first single. Maybe, because Adam, as much he is his own man, is also an every man, with common notions shared by all, which is more than fine. Maybe even I expected that. This is why I love his promises of today - they carry that wind of untamed spirit which blows like undercurrent from all his songs straight into my face, smelling of determination, courage, fierceness, freedom, loyalty, smelling of Adam. The results, like consequences of his ideas, are very important, but after they leave his head they are not only his own, they get to be translated into songs and an album and an album cover and art and everything else. The reason why I appreciate so much this glimpse into his ideas is that I don't want anything to get lost in that translation, at least not for me. That's why I want to learn to speak Adam, not just to see the translation. That would make one more language I am fluent in:)))
