Thanks for the answer, Q3! So what you were saying was that hot tea is not a common drink in the US. And even though ice tea is an American invention it's not popular either > carbonated drinks rule the market. I think that means that Lipton is not a big brand there and it would be very hard to try to shift consumption from carbonated beverages to ice tea (or juice). In other words, the Lipton Ice Tea campaign in large scale would be doomed and a waste of money (would need other companies to join in, preferably US-owned to have an impact). And you are sceptical to the idea that it would run in US TV, right? Well, perhaps in a small scale but not in a massive way to make the song a hit or even a considerable support if it were to be a single. And the campaign is more suited to other markets. We are huge coffee drinkers but tea is served as a second choice in every meeting, birthday party, funerals etc. along with cold drinks which would be water and juice mostly (some carbonated drinks possibly offered but not necessary). The low consumption figure in tea for us is a bit astonishing but yes, coffee is much more common. Ice tea is more of a novelty, often not served in cafés even though we have adopted lattes and cappucinos recently, but they are hot drinks (and cold climate favors hot drinks, not like in Southern Europe where all these have an iced version). The Lipton version is more like a sweetened juice and would compete here with other juices. I think it has possibilities as we're not exclusively drinking carbonated beverages in recreational situations (that the ad describes), also selling it in bottles makes it easier to penetrate that market segment. If I'm getting this right > no high hopes for the US but could have a market, and an impact to the song elsewhere. Not quite. I would not go that far. Lipton could used that commercial in the US -- because we have the biggest RTD Iced Tea market in the world. And the market is still growing here. Lipton is the #1 tea brand in the world and it is #1 loose and bagged tea brand in the US. So it is important here. Arizona Iced Tea is by far #1 in the US. ** And yes, US culture is linked to historically to coffee and in the 20th and 21st century to Coke. Can you picture a bunch of cowboys on the range sitting around the campfire with a pot of tea? No, it was coffee. In 1930's if you had a slice of pie in a diner or cafe, the coffee was right there. And it is hard to go 10 feet in the US without running into an espresso drink -- Starbucks, McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts. We really do drink tea in the US -- just not hot, and we use glasses! >> Odd connection: In the Freddie Mercury song lyrics, he often referred to "cup of tea" so we might have Adam singing "cup of tea" this summer.

It is interesting to see where Canadians sit in the numbers...we drink more Coffee, and Tea than the US....curious. Mind you, I am sure we drink less soda pop. Our ice tea here is generally sweetened although more and more often, it is served unsweetened here...I nearly choked the first time I was served unsweetened tea haha. It is not common, but I have to say that I buy my beans green and roast my own coffee so that it is always really fresh and the way I like it. I don't drink THAT much, and usually only before noon ... but I really do not care for weak, old coffee..... Tea on the other hand, I don't really notice much difference...uneducated palate. Canadians drink a lot of herbal teas...especially out west in hippie/tree hugger land and in metro hipster land....can't speak to the Maritimes at all...no idea. I kow....tmi....who cares.... Only in Canada you say? Pity! (Canadians will get this)
We are picky beverage people. We don't roast our own beans, but we buy from a local roaster and only use a french press or the barista machine. No beverage 'pods' in this house.
We have loose leaf Massala Chai shipped by the kilo. from a specialty place. (I'm quite sure Canada post has us on their watch list) LOL
And we NEVER buy bottled water. Always from the tap.... into the Brita jug...or filtered from the refrigerator. Sometimes we even get crazy and drink it straight from the tap or god forbid on a hot day......the garden hose!

Ok guys, you must see this card trick commercial for Stockholm! This is awesome on so many levels. No wonder Adam loves it there. WOW...I want to move there!'!!!! Sounds awesome..... I know this is totally OT, but I saw this magician at our local Busker's Festival last summer and he was totally amazing. It was on an open wharf; he only had a tiny table in front of him which you could see under; he did wear a fanny belt, but he had an audience around him on three sides. We were all blown away. His final trick was to produce a cantaloupe out of nowhere!!! Just like Adam, he has perfected his craft.

Oh, this beverage thing is getting almost out of hand, LOL. I was just trying to find a reason why you pulled coffee/tea consumption numbers to the table (and I got a bit carried away) - but our interest is with ice tea and the ad that has LMD in it. These cold beverage stats are more close to our interests, I think. Yeah, even this market segment is big bucks when it's USA. And the ad, in some form, might be used (after muppets that is). Maybe that decision has an impact on the choice of Avicii's next single in the US? I think you're still with Hey Brother? And elsewhere the next one, Addicted To You is on but a new one is needed for the summer. Will they push ATY or skip it in the US? Hmm, interesting times ahead. But I think LMD has a better chance to be released now when it's in the ad. That's exciting! ETA To the Canadian friends, we do drink most of our water from the tap. Bottled water exists and is at sale but rather used outdoors where you have to carry your beverages.

Oh, sorry for beverage craziness!! I spend part of my real life analyzing the beverage market. And that question about Coffee vs. Tea is an very interesting one because it is so linked to history and colonialism. *** But the punchline is, we will just have to see if Lipton broadcasts the LMD Iced Tea commercial in the US and Canada. The decision will certainly have to do solely with RTD Iced Tea and not the music or the cool ZORB. I am just ecstatic that so much of Adam singing LMD is going to be on a major TV commercial across Europe and in Russia, Asia, Latin America and South Africa. *** Gelly @14gelly 16m Shades of Elvis author photographer interv youtu.be/dYrS-nQbdA0 via Christopher Ameruoso / @adamlambert pic at 4.49 pic.twitter.com/HPAqxzHCTb
