Clay Aiken - UGH! I have my own opinion about why he decided to jump into national politics. He could have helped NC education much more in his own statehouse, but he decided to bypass that. Anyway, his music career fizzled, his last tour flopped, he tried to sell a book but no publisher would touch it, and he tried to sell a radio show that no one would buy. I haven't thought much of his character since he spouted out so ugly about Adam - that's when I quit being a Clay Aiken fan. ETA- As you can see, I am totally objective.

Was impressed with what I saw from Michael Sam too (and have not yet seen the latest, just earlier videos).
Re Clay Aiken:
While I would be glad if he could sweep in and steal a seat that is strongly favored to got to the GOP candidate, I don't see the right kind of activity from him (and I am talking the primary run activities that proceeded the most recent events, because obviously nobody could foresee those). I watched 3 commercials he put out, watched some event where he presented and asked for peoples votes. They were wordy, and lengthy, and boring, and they did not get to any substance at all. Not even on the core topics that he should be able to intelligently speak to, like education and social welfare. He certainly tried to stay away from gay rights, which I understand, but in the end, he ended up saying nothing.
'Please vote for me, because I am a nice guy. I am not a politician, and I don't ever want to be one? ' What? But I want to run for congress and do everything differently there. Yeah right.
Sorry, while I don't demonize Clay, like one of the previous posts does, and the whole Adam thing from 5 years ago is kindergarden level nonsense in the context of this new political ambition, so I'll ignore that, I do think in general that he is a very political animal, is not always a nice guy, and can have a sharp tongue at times. Imo, all these things are actually good qualifications for somebody who wants to meddle in politics, they are not bad, no matter whether I would like them on a personal level or not.
He needs to urgently start talking about issues. Maybe he held back, to have the strong hand of the unknown in the actual election. If yes, then he played a risky game at that.
He needs to start putting forward what he wants to stand for or stand against. He needs to come forward with how he would be voting or influencing debate in the key topics presently before Congress in Washington.
I agree, that locally in NC the situation is even more dire, but perhaps he did not see an opening there for himself. We shall see. I am very much rooting for him, but so far very disappointed in what I have seen from him.
Normally, Clay can talk, and he can be on point, but he has so far not demonstrated that in the primary cycle. So, a little concerned that he is only full of himself, rather than really making a difference. We shall see.

Why do I call the comments Kindergarten level?
Well look how Adam saw them? Clay's online comments were silly and naive (he said did not know that the internet was a public place, really?) His fan club site is still public space.
So, what did Adam do?
Exactly 4 things:
a) shoot back, that Clay just wanted to ride a news cycle on his coattails. Snap.
b) Evaluated the comment, and decided that having a pseudo feud with Clay was actually quite a useful thing to have for Adam, so he kept it going. For years. Lol (see Andy Cohen interview). At minimum it was entertaining, most likely, it was even useful.
c) Decided to completely ignore the actual affront (voice making ears bleed). Adam is bigger than Clay. Another point for Adam.
d) See the whole thing as a game, or a feud (but not a serious one), and march on with big steps in his career. I don't think, Adam ever let Clay's crap get to him. He knows that Clay is cut out of a different cloth than he is. He let's stuff like that roll off of him. That is what makes Adam so strong, in spite of a ton of adversity.
Adam has moved on, so should we.

any word on who will be on the AI finale? They usually do not say anything about the finale guest performers until on/after the Top 3 results which are Thursday. ETA I do not really think Clay is qualified to be in the US House, and in the unlikely event he is elected, he will not accomplish anything there. He will be in the minority party and have no important committee appointments. If he really was serious about wanting to help kids or focus on Education he would run for state office, or the local school board. I do not think he has bad motives in running for Congress but I watched him in a couple TV interview programs and he struck me as extraordinarily naive and lacking in any comprehension of the major issues facing this country. He has no policy team, no real campaign structure. Finally, Clay won because of a weird vote split in a 3-way race....The tally from the North Carolina Board of Elections showed Aiken with 11,678 votes, Crisco with 11,288, and Toni Morris, third with 5,616. He will need around 165,000 to beat Renee Ellmers -- and in that district, in 2014, I do not see how any Democrat can do that.
