I am a huge DWTS fan too! And I love to ballroom dance myself. Meryl & Maks are my favorite too! And I was really disappointed that Charlie was out at #5 because he is really way better than both Candice and James.

As far as other forms of "dance" being an advantage to DWTS contestants, yes & no. Other forms of dance, ballet, jazz, even ice dancing help the DWTS contestants from the waist up. But from the waist down, ballroom is so very different from other forms of dance. Good ballroom technique starts with the feet and moves up. Meryl is very practiced at hitting beautiful arm lines and facial expressions and doing lifts because of the ice dance training. But getting the feet right has been harder for her because the foot action is extremely different in ballroom than ice dancing. Meryl, Amy, and Charlie are all well trained athletes with lots of stamina and flexibility. And both ice dancing and snow boarding are very dependent on knowing exactly where your weight is over each part of your foot (toe, ball, center, heel, inside edge, outside edge) and in knowing how to "get your weight into your leg" (basically bend deep in the knees while keeping your posture) and both of these things are very helpful in ballroom dancing. Plus both sports require you to be able to move your lower body independent of your upper body, i.e., twist from the waist, which is also important to ballroom dancing.

Also, one of my pet peeves is that the non-ballroom dancers on So You Think You Can Dance do not bother getting any ballroom training between their audition and the live shows. Despite previous contestants every year saying ballroom is much harder than they ever imagined, they somehow think it should be easy with their contemporary training. But I know for a fact that when ballroom dancers Pasha & Anna were on the show (Season 3 I think) they went and studied all the other forms of dancing between the auditions and live shows. (I know this because Pasha and my former Latin ballroom instructor have been BFFs since their teens.) This has cost some of the contemporary dancers from doing as well as they should have. For example, I believe that the really technically bad Cha Cha that Sasha did on the SYTYCD finals sealed the win for Melanie.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but I Think they said since OR before 1980, so since 1980 is around the 1985 around point. 1985 I think they were last in Oz, thats 29 years ago, so not exactly 30 years go. Some comments on FB said Motley Crue, who knows guess well find out Tommorro.
