To me, the differences between Adam's SBB and Caleb's are primarily that Adam has a better tone and his singing is effortless, even on a challenging song like this. When Caleb was about to go for the high note, I feared he wouldn't reach it or his voice would break in the middle of it. I never have that fear with Adam. His voice just pours out of his throat and fills the room. Poor Caleb can never dream to have that kind of range and control, but then, who can? As Roger Taylor said, Adam's voice is one in a billion.

Queen's Lambert is not copying Mercury By AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATED PRESS PUBLISHED: 23:08 EST, 25 May 2014 | UPDATED: 23:08 EST, 25 May 2014
Queen's new frontman Adam Lambert said he doesn't try to mimic Freddie Mercury on stage as that would be disrespectful. The British rock band announced they will be touring Australia in August with the American Idol runner-up singing in place of the late Freddie Mercury. "I don't try to mimic him, it's not a competition in any way - it should just be music," Lambert said. "Freddie Mercury is one of a kind, there's never going to be another Freddie. I can't even begin to compete with his talent. I just get up on stage and do my best to pay tribute to him and to the songwriting." While the focus will be on Lambert and whether or not he gels with Queen legends Brian May and Roger Taylor, Lambert said he just wants to give everyone "a good show". The US singer has already passed his biggest test yet, playing to a home crowd at the Hammersmith Apollo in London in 2012. "That's where I really felt the pressure," he said. "Luckily, from what I heard, I think it was well received."
Lambert said he was always in awe of May and Taylor and enjoys hearing their stories about the late frontman. "It's been fun trying to get to know him (Freddie) through them," he said. "One of the things they said that really meant a lot to me and made me feel like I was in the right place was over the few times we'd worked together, they said `you know, Freddie would have liked you, I think you guys would have got along, you guys would have got a kick out of each other'." Lambert hopes he's keeping Mercury's legacy alive rather than trying to copy him. "I think that (to copy him) would be disrespectful to his memory and also to the fans. That's not what they're coming to see. They're coming to see a show of great music and that's what they're going to see," he said. "There will never be another Freddie Mercury. "He was so immensely talented and brilliant and I only hope to just bring the music to life on stage. To celebrate the music."
* Queen and Adam Lambert's national tour starts in Perth on August 22.

A couple of days ago craazy wrote that singers with a broad range have more options when singing a rangy song. They are not stuck in just one key. Our boy sings the SSB in the last clip in the key of of C. Bottom note a C3. Top note a G4. The usual 1.5 or so octaves.
In the middle clip, he sings it a full step higher. Bottom note D3. Top note tho', he adds the flourish and runs all the way up to a D5, for two full octaves.
The Broadway clip is just ridiculous showing off as only a singer of Adam's quality can do. Tho' he skips the beginning with the lowest notes (not because he can't sing them, but for time), he starts the song at the very top of a great tenor's range: A4, Bb4 up to C5 in the first five notes. Then, just cuz the boy can and it's Broadway and it's his peers, he belts up to a full-voiced F5. (Leaving other classically trained tenors green with envy)
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it is done when you are Adam Fuckin' Lambert.

I'm sorry, but Caleb's SSB was totally uninspired and he was my favorite on Idol! There were absolutely no dynamics. Not a huge Caleb fan, although, I think he has a great voice for classic Rock. But you can tell he is nervous as hell. He starts off ahead of the band and remains that way the whole song. Most likely due to nerves and adrenaline. Not the best SSB I have ever heard but not even close the a bad rendition. IMO, he did alright! I think people tend to forget or don't know how young this guy is! We can't all be Adam Lambert! It is why "our" guy is so special! "One in a billion!"

Those charts are funny - the top artists for 64 year olds - only 6 of those listed would be on my list, and the distinctive artists by various demographics - the majority of those I listen to fall in the 35-54 age ranges (I'm a bit older than 54). Just goes to show how subjective music is. Most of my favorite artists aren't anywhere to be found on those charts. I have the same problem....the majority of what I listen to is not even on the chart -- but certainly not in my age range! Although lately my Spotify play list looks pretty much like this.... Adam Lambert Adam Lambert on American Idol Aviciii (secretly with Adam Lambert) Queen with Adam Lambert Queen Glee Cast (featuring Adam Lambert) That is a bit of an exaggeration but not much.

Thanks so much! That Adam, I wish I had the poetic means to write what he makes me feel. What a precious precious gift, to be able to take people on an emotional ride with just a voice. To possibly over-emote, it's like I am feeling his soul when he sings songs like Broken Open. What magic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpF0HNFDSJMAlso wanted to thank you, cassie, for your cogent comments on the more technical side of Adam's voice. For me, like I said, it is just magic, as I have no training to understand it any other way than viscerally. Your explanations just fascinate me, and help me to understand on an entirely different level how amazing his voice is. A fuller understanding, kind of. Your posts also make me understand how much time and effort and training and practice go into developing what I'm sure was an innately awesome instrument. The respect he shows his talent thrills me. He may have had a head start, but his devotion has honed that genetic advantage into a fully earned credibility, IMO. So thanks for helping me to fan girl for even more reasons about Adam.
Not even going into how damnably attractive he is! *shallow, but true*
