Grrrrr to that review. Yes, it is a site where anyone can submit an article. So, I don't consider it legitimate, even tho' others will not make that distinction. But this? "His voice fits in so well with this band that at times I thought I was listening to Freddie. He is that good. Make no mistake, he's no Freddie, but he's good."
First of all, he NEVER sounds like Freddie. His voice fits, yes, but not as an imitation Freddie. It's a bit like people who say that Freddie sang opera. NO, he didn't. NO, he couldn't. He might sing an operatic style song, he may sing with an opera singer, but Freddie didn't sing opera. And Adam didn't sing like Freddie.
And any statement that starts with "He/she's no _______," is NO compliment. I don't care what the intent of the speaker.
So, please, aspiring writers everywhere, JUST STOP IT. Review Adam's singing and performance on its own merit.

I know cassie! Why can't they just simply admit he is great, in a league of his own, and Freddie would be happy and proud? BTW, I really enjoy reading your comments on the voice masterclass. Your explanation and analysis make me appreciate Adam's voice even more than I already did. So thank you

As said up thread, it's going to be a very long summer. Hopefully once a few shows go by more people will be like the Grammy article who recognised the contribution that Adam brings, not as a stand in but in his own right as an exceptional artist combining with other exceptional artists to create something new and exciting.

Maybe my expectations are too low.. but I'm just happy he hasn't been torn to shreds on the internet. I think they were prepped for that response by some of the early interviews just after the US tour announcement.

Funny, I actually don't mind "he's no Freddie..." as long as people are able to admit that he is a stellar vocalist. I thought it would really bug me. I can't appreciate when others sing his songs.. or heck there are some from Idol that I can't get past (Feeling Good with the exception of Nina Simone). So I get it. Thankfully many of the skeptical people have quieted down.. so I'm good. Hang in there its going to be a long summer. Now you see, the phrase "he's no Freddie..." makes me seethe . I read it as saying "well, he'll never be as good as Freddie, we all know that don't we?" assuming everyone will agree with Freddie's superiority. Regardless of how 'good' stupendous (Brian's favourite phrase of the moment) a vocalist Adam is, Freddie will always be better! Saying "he's not Freddie, but ............" is a completely different kettle of fish! I know, I'm being a bit "eats, shoots and leaves" about this, but it really has started to bug me, a lot. My own sentiments entirely.

I've come to realize that more often than not the "he's no Freddie" comment is self protective on the part of the commenter or writer. They are afraid that if they don't clarify that Freddie is the one and only they will be seen as betraying Freddie. It's almost like a vocal tic at this point, kind of a blanket disclaimer to excuse the "heresy" of actually being impressed by Adam. You have to start with the necessary obeisance to the legend before you can continue your evaluation of the present. Could very well be!

I think some feel by accepting Adam ,they are betraying Freddie's memory..I believe this will stop, for the most part, during or after the tour.. Adam is an undeniable force with his own solid, great career...so I take the back handed comliments with a grain of salt. The positive aspect of this great tour with Queen is is that Adam is growing a bigger and bigger world wide fan base due to his incredible voice and his charisma..IMHO The Queen songs and the band are made for Adam, the perfect musical fit.. Freddie is gone but Adam, the band and the music live on.... I notice a subtle change heading in Adam's direction.. less about Freddie and more about Adam in the press and on the live stage.. The comment sections. in articles. well we know what they are like.LOL.
