Adam has been a trail blazer for a long time without being acknowledged & then out of the blue Sam Smith arrives & he is hailed the new LGB hero! WTF! It seems some heros are never excepted in their own homeland.

It seems some heros are never excepted in their own homeland. It's always toughest to be the first at anything. Adam had the balls to be the trailblazer, and HUGE props for that. But, it should not stop with Adam, he should not be the only gay singer in the mainstream. Adam will be the first one to agree that it's great Sam Smith came out and is getting his big break. There should be more gay artists in the mainstream! And yes, Adam's success is (in my opinion) responsible in part for the acceptance of Sam Smith - I'm sure Sam saw how Adam handled it all and took notes. Adam's legacy is so much more than music--gay artists that are coming up and that will appear in the future surely owe a lot to him.

It seems some heros are never excepted in their own homeland. Sam Smith is safe. He's not sexual or in any way overt about his sexuality. He doesn't threaten anyone. His music is quiet and tender. He's "Will and Grace" gay. Adam is... Well none of that. He's unapologetic. He's bold. He's distinctive and can't be ignored and that makes mainstream very nervous. Another who doesn't threaten is Neil Patrick Harris - he is the straightest gay imaginable complete with husband and 2 kids living happily in the burbs. Sure he puts on the Hedwig persona and gets wild but that's a character so it's ok. (BTW I do like NPH just making distinction here)... Adam is Adam. His friends and life are anything but mainstream. No picket fences in sight just amazing individual creative beings supporting each other. Not saying is right - just what is. But his talent is undeniable and recognised more every day. I'm not sure what his path is but it will play out in time and it's own way. It's fine for Sam to have some time in the sun. Adam is always generous in his admiration for other artists, I think recognising how hard it is to make it. I don't pretend to know what he thinks but I imagine he'd be happy for SAMs success. He is a trail blazer - so others like Sam are sure to follow. Ok I'm rambling time to call it a night.

IMHO , Adam has helped to open the door for gay artists here in the U.S....He is a leader & an innovator.. I always thought of him as a sort of singing Moses who led others to the promised land but was denied entrance himself.. Moses is certainly remembered the others who followed???
Adam is a performer performers have to be seen as well as heard.. To me,the stage is where Adam has always belonged.. That's why TV is so good for Adam. You have to see him to believe him. CDs don't capture his total essence,He is more than his glorious voice.
As far as Sam Smith's success, super Yay for acceptance in America. The more gay singers on U.S. radio the better...I'm sure Adam is thrilled for this success. It's all about equality and having a fair shot .I'm just happy that Adam no longer has to shoulder the push for equality in music alone anymore.
