I guess that is the Glambert question of the ages.....
Right now, I just want him to be successful and make a lot of great music and entertain me and be happy. I don't want an icon, I want a living, breathing Adam on stage performing for me (and a "few" of my friends -- like 20,000 of them).
Time will tell if he becomes legendary, iconic or a superstar. But Q+AL is certainly establishing his bona fides as a great vocalist who is more than a reality TV star. He still has to solidify that globally. (And yes, I think that Q+AL will be headed to Europe and the UK to just seal the deal.)
***
I think to be any or even all three of these: legendary, iconic or a superstar -- he needs to be Adam and he needs to define what that is. And being Adam is not consistent with being a pop radio hitmaker, or a teen heartthrob. It will be as a singer and stage personality.
If "Icon-ness" is what he wants, then he is right on track because he was born to be on stage as a theatrical singer --- the "Killer Queen" performance is Adam at his best --- cheeky, funny, charming, campy + able to sing like no one else.
JMHO (no rocks) he will never be a legendary rockstar, he will be a legendary performer doing popular music -- genres do not matter. I think buried under all the stuff that Cory Garcia wrote, he was right when he wrote "on songs like "Killer Queen" and "I Want It All" they actually do manage to make some magic, and it's quite impressive." The critical review from San Jose also mentioned "Killer Queen" positively.
Icons - Judy, Liza, Janis, Barbra, Cher, Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Freddie, Bowie, MJ, etc. all are famous first and foremost as live performers. Look at Freddie, his icon pose with his arm up in the air is a stage pose.

Absolutely, totally on board with this. Thanks, iilove.
So precisely put. It is a dilemma, isn't it? To be so talented that there is not a solo slot to place him. Like I have said before, a true embarrassment of riches. Lucky boy. Lucky us. I believe with every fiber of my being that he has got this. And another quality? intelligence. I think this boy is innately savvy and that, with his years in the industry, fuels his decisions. He's a smart one, I think. And learns more from everything that happens, and applies it. And also? Smart enough and mature enough not to make stupid mis-steps in his public behavior.
Like iilove says:
Really enjoying the discussion of Adam's career path and the possibilities. Sounds like some of you have some background knowledge of the industry. Appreciate you sharing it, as I have none. And am extremely interested in knowing more. You all being up points I hadn't considered before. Thanks!

I feel I might be able to give a bit of an outsider perspective here. You guys here would buy a CD of him singing the phone book so it's hard for you guys in general to see the forest for the trees. Like me with Queen maybe Now previously, either he or his label (pre A2) wanted him to do a dance-pop kind of album. His casual fans, I think, didn't want this. The ones who liked him on Idol and got FYE - they liked his pop/rock stuff. Those are the ones he lost between FYE and Trespassing As an outsider of sorts - I bought and enjoyed FYE. I definitely liked some tracks more than others. I went on and bought Trespassing and quite honestly, I wasn't a fan. I liked a few of the tracks but it was all pretty forgettable if I'm honest. And I think it's more flop than hit...It did well to debut at #1 but it sank like a stone. So when people say he needs songs, that's partially true. He needs songs that are memorable and will connect with a casual audience. BUT I honestly think he needs some cohesion more. He needs to sit down with a songwriter and develop an album long vision, get a quality band together and work together to fulfill this vision and not just a collection of songs. He needs to find a young Brian May-esque type musician and just bang out about 30 songs and work it through to the finish... BUT This is all my opinion. EDIT IN: OH...I plan on getting it still...it's the least I could do Of course personally I wish him well...of course selfishly, I'm hoping that sooner than later I'll get to hear a QAL album

Carly Rae Jepsen is in Cinderella on Broadway, still I think. It was RCA's idea to put Adam together with Pharrell and I live those two tracks + Shady a lot. I can't completely hate on them. Not to be a Robin Thicke apologist again, but he was a songwriter for others, had a record deal at 16 or something but wasn't ready and then got tons of respect for many years. His audience was middle-aged black women mainly. I think his songs with Lil Wayne are genius. I would LOVE it if Robin wrote something with Adam. Likely? Probably not. My guess is that people had so many issues with Blurred Lines and then this whole Paula album. I loved his last album and I don't even want to buy an album about getting his wife back. Good luck to him though. Very talented. A douche? No clue. I think to say any other song on Trespassing would be a radio hit if RCA interfered is stretching it. Sometimes I think Adam really wants to be Britney. I thought his whole Madonna Ray of Light thing was weird and vocally not great. Adam should be Adam. He's no Britney or Madonna. Adam requested Pharrel, not from RCA. RCA is responsible for 2 and only 2 tracks on Trespassing -- BTIKM and NCOE. The rest was all directed by Adam. And JMHO, the two RCA tracks are the worst tracks on the album. But I have been posting that (and boring people with that) since I first heard BTIKM is 2011 -- RCA wanted Adam to do more songs like his big hit, WWFM. >> But there is also no chance that if "Trespassing" was the promoted lead single from the album, it would have been a pop hit. None. Same for "Kickin' In" -- his other collab with Adam. >> I think that in 2012, "Pop That Lock" might have had a shot -- it certainly could have been promoted as a dance track with a remix. I have never seen anything that indicated that that was even considered as a single. I do not think Adam wants to be Britney or Madonna -- but we know he really loves Madonna. And he sang "Ray of Light" beautifully in a GNT soundcheck, VH1 was just OK vocally but he sang it live doing complex choreo. One thing Adam has to do at some point is either not do complex choreo when he is singing (my choice) or go to augmented singing like Britney (please NO!) In the current Q+AL tour, he has a very theatrical number (Killer Queen) but he is not dancing, and it works really well both theatrically and vocally.

I would love to see your suggestions come to fruition for Adam. Thanks -

I am a fan. But if I buy A3 and do not play it, I will stop buying Adam's albums unless I hear something I love. And I will not be the only fan that bails. It is how it works. And, yes, he can sell about 100,000 albums to core fans but then the music (songs+Adam) must sell themselves. It is now, and it always will be, about the music in the end. *** Unrelated topic -- LMD (which is not likely to ever be released in the US since they appear to be done with singles from TRUE) is getting airplay on US Dance Radio. And it is not being promoted. It is a small format that is actually still programmed by people.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Why does almost every day have to end up into "what Adam is doing wrong?" or "what Adam must do!"

Only time will tell.
Name a pop star who entered show biz only five years ago but already can be considered as legendary?
