Apparently Queer is now being used by many young gay folks. I actually went to a meeting to hear a gay activist talk and asked about using the word Queer. She said that many in the LGBt community are embracing that term. She said the word defines the whole LGBT Community.I was kind of shocked ,because i always thought it was a derogatory term. The speaker said people who are older have some trouble with the term. I'm older and I definitely thought it was a derogatory term. I have a hard time using it but if it's all right with members of LGBT community it's alright with me. I'll get used to it eventually. it is. I hate when groups use the derogatory terms and try to make them harmless. IMHO if the words would just not be used as the population grows older the young ones would never know or use them. |
