Tonight’s concert is very special to me. I have lived many places but I was born and mostly raised in the Philadelphia area. So, it is my true home town and, as much as I wanted to leave when I grew up, it still is a very special place to me. No knock on Philly, I just wanted to move away and build my own life.

I attended so many epic concerts on the site of tonight’s concert – which sits on the site of The Spectrum (demolished between November 2010 and May 2011 – that I expect a very special concert tonight. A concert as special as the Queen concerts that rocked the old Spectrum in 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1982. (And I was there!!)

What to expect in Philly? -- a packed house, a really loud audience and a lot of 70's vintage Queen fans.

SHOW: Queen with Adam Lambert are touring North America.

In 2012 Lambert performed a series of shows with Queen across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

Referring to the late Freddie Mercury, Queen’s former frontman, Lambert said: ‘‘I’m honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory; he’s a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band.’’

Pre-sale tickets will be available from Ticketmaster and Dainty Group from 9am on Monday. General sale tickets go on sale at 9am on July 24.

Whose music is it anyway?

I keep reading “expert” reviews that improperly credit songs written by other members of Queen to Freddie. I read one early in the tour that credited Freddie with every song – it was quickly corrected after Queen fans pummeled the writer in the comments.

I am first and foremost a Queen fan. I never had a favorite band member. It always seemed kind of like something 11 year old girls did with The Beatles and I thought it was stupid in 1964, it seems even more ridiculous applied to the group of musician who are Queens because they really collaborated on a lot of their music and presentation.

Over the past twenty years, I have come to finally see Roger and Brian as musicians and artists and people separate from Queen. And I have also come to realize how much of what we know of as Queen came from Brian May. So, with no disrespect to Roger, Freddie and John, I just want to point out something interesting about the music in the setlist for Q+AL.

Just looking at the 24 full songs – and excluding the bass feature, drum duel and the vocal improv “Gimme Some Love” – there are 10 or 11 Brian May songs (depends how you count the guitar solo – is it one or two songs) plus Brian’s arrangement of “God Saves The Queen” at the end of the show. There are also 9 or 10 songs by Freddie Mercury (DSMN has rarely been performed and so most concerts have 9 Freddie songs).

But I just bet that if you asked anyone attending this concert (including most of the “critics”) who wrote most of this music, they would say Freddie Mercury.
