I have an Idol question. In the past didn't Adam say he wanted to get to the Final? Did he ever actually say he wanted to win? The interview above he says he wanted to win. I don't ever recall him saying he wanted to win. I mostly remember him saying that he wanted to stay on the show as long as possible

I don't ever recall him saying he wanted to win. I mostly remember him saying that he wanted to stay on the show as long as possible It strikes me as odd that after so many interviews he finally said it. It makes me think he now feels successful and secure enough to say it publically.

I have an Idol question. In the past didn't Adam say he wanted to get to the Final? Did he ever actually say he wanted to win? The interview above he says he wanted to win. I noticed that too, and it is reported as a direct quote, so it should normally be exactly what was said, but I am not sure, whether I can sufficiently trust the source. Also, I think, Adam's earlier way of saying < I wanted to make it to the final and perform as often as possible, and I did that > was a very smart way to keep the message positive, rather than having to say that it was a disappointment, but it does not really matter.... His message was much more forward-looking, so it was marketing wise very clever. Over the years, as we all saw the protest dwindle whenever somebody posted again that Adam had won season 8, it became apparent that it was not important anymore to stay as PC. Who cares today anyway...the realities of the two careers have been established, nothing is going to change that anymore. But, yes, this is the first time, I saw it written this way.

I don't ever recall him saying he wanted to win. I mostly remember him saying that he wanted to stay on the show as long as possible Of course he wanted to win, regardless of whether he said it or not. People do not enter competition only for the opportunities for personal or professional growth, tho' that can be one of the motivations. Adam had been competing ever since he started in children's theater. He told of how multiple kids studied for the same part. The best was given the Friday night performance, and the second best the Saturday night, and then the matinee performances for the others. He wanted the Friday night slot. As a senior in high school he was in a regional talent competition. He ended up second (incredible, I know). Professionally, he was cast as the understudy in several productions; basically that is second place, isn't it? Was he content to be "runner-up?" To have the opportunity to go on stage once in a while in the lead if someone got sick? To play the role in the matinees only? I don't think so. I think he always shot for the top. He is smart enough, and savvy enough to use any situation to his best advantage. To use it as a learning and growing experience. As a spring board. Even as an example of what not to do in the future. He is also smart enough to know that in interviews, whining about not winning and being critical of AI or any other experience does not show him in the best light to his reading/listening audience. Adam has said that he CHOOSES to be positive and upbeat about things, and keeps the negative thoughts and feelings to himself. I do remember, tho', in an acceptance speech for some award he quipped "I finally WON something!" Somehow, I don't think that was 100% joking.

Adam's standard answer was always ""I just wanted a platform to sing and staying on the show as long as possible was my goal, which I achieved." But what else was he going to say?— "I hate that I am obviously a better singer than Kris and it's pretty clear that people were voting against my sexuality instead of for Kris's amazing talent?" - No way! The man is too smart. Better to be humble and gracious and be thought of as a good sport. I'm not saying that he was lying, just that sometimes you have to spin things to work in your favor.
Of course he wanted to win and completely deserved to. It must have been galling to have to go on that Idol tour and have Kris go on after him as the headliner, although he probably realized later that coming in second actually was working in his favor. Even now it's a favorite hook of reporters.
The only time I remember any mention of him wanting to win was in an obscure interview with Neil on some website where Neil was urging people to vote for Adam. He said he didn't necessarily think winning would be the best thing for him but Adam wanted it so people should vote for him. I can't remember the site but it was Neil as a member of the board with a different name but it was clear it was him.
I can't remember where my shoes are but I can instantly recall an obscure website interview with Adam's brother from over five years ago. If only this power could be used for good instead of evil.
ETA: I just said basically the same thing as Cassie at the same time!

Cassie, I'm always agreeing with you! And I did notice that quote, but until I actually see a video with the words coming out of Adam's mouth, I remain unsure about the truth.

If there are others like me who thought their computer's sound system died, it didn't: this video doesn't actually have sound. There is a much better one of him doing this, with sound, I don't know if it was already posted: link
When I saw it, I remembered when he did the same weird thing with his mouth in front of Ashley during one of his concerts, and she was so confused that she pecked him on the lips... It was sooo awkward, and totally not what Adam was going for Serves her right, she should have spent more time studying Adam's facial acrobatics
