Well, if it is a "sound" you are looking for, then I would say Trespassing would be the album. Because both the album and the songs have Adam's sound. He wrote all but 2 songs on that album, you know?! Adam's 'sound" for me is his voice, no matter what he is singing. It is instantly Adam! I hope he never feels he has to have one sound. I do have to say NCOE is no "poor man's" Bruno! It's just a crap song that RCA forced him to put on the album because they thought the Bruno connection would get it played. One of their many screw ups. "Poor man Bruno?" Puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez! I agree that Trespassing has a cohesive sound....... especially if you remove NCOE and BTIKM.

I always tell people when "debating" Adam -- You have to hear him live -- EVERYTHING about him fills the room. I don't remember much about Detroit -- it's just a huge blur (was it even real?)but when he walked down the "catwalk" that first time and he was just singing and shimmering in gold it was like, like, like -- I don't even know - like everything.

Oh Queen was very rarely received well by critics. It was more of a hindsight thing to be honest. Perhaps the same thing will happen with Adam...although honestly I thought Trespassing got good reviews, just didn't sell (after the first week). Maybe the public will have a hindsight view later on... I'm sure someone has already addressed this as I am just starting the thread now, but the meme that Trespassing didn't sell after the first week is not correct. Did it have the numbers of, or stay on the BB 200 charts as long as FYE? No. But it sold approx. 78,000 copies it's first week and ended up at 185,000 at years end. Well within BB's top 200 selling albums of the year. That is out of tens of thousands of albums released that year. We also have year end world wide sales numbers of 310,000 at year end. Not bad numbers for an album that many people have called a flop. Thank you! I think people forget how hard it is to sell albums these days. Numbers that would have looked anemic in 1985 are perfectly reasonable in 2014.

Well we could argue semantics....
But Trespassing had a great first week...no doubt. It was an accomplishment to debut #1. It did sink pretty quickly after that with no hit singles, so either way you slice it, it wasn't a big selling album.
I loved Van Halen 3. With Gary Cherone on vocals. It flopped to kingdom come because Van Halen fans couldn't accept a new singer (SEE! I *KNOW* how you all feel...I've been on the other side! LOL) I remember back in the day I felt the need to defend it. The single hit #1 on the Rock chart...but overall I had to admit the album basically flopped.
Hell The Cosmos Rocks flopped! No problem admitting it.
Either way, I think it's safe to say Adam (and everyone here...me included) would like to see a far more successful A3, right?

I wrote this in 2012 after first QAL and I will repeat it now - IMHO first of all there is need for a better backing band for Adam. Because the difference is just painfull to watch and hear and you can't really to evolve and iprove when you stick to mediocrity out of loyalty. And I really appreciate his loyalty.

I need to get in my car, crank up the volume and listen to FYE today. It has been a while.

I agree TP sort of flopped, at least as far as my own expectations had been set. The reasons for that have been discussed at nauseam, so no need to re-iterate them again. The lucky thing it was not the quality of the material (aside from the singles).... Having learned from TP experience I am trying to be very, very cautious in setting those pesky expectations of mine... The cheerleading side of my brain is telling me: "iHeart/CC radio love him now"..."industry peeps respect him now"..."his label got him to work with MM for weeks and the guy has gazillion #1 hits"..."Adam learned a lot from TP"...."about 500K peeps saw him on this glorious tour, sure at least 5-10% of those will be interested in his own music"..."4 mil (?) saw him on GLee, sure 5-10% will be interested in his own music"... "I trust Adam, A3 will be brilliant and THIS TIME EVERYONE will NOTICE!"...etc... The pragmatic side of my brain is coming with: "the album sales are in the gutter in general"..."the digital downloads are in the gutter as well"..."peeps that went to see QAL would not be interested in pop"..."Radio is fickle, political, Evil in general"..."MM is not the answer for a singer like Adam"..."it's been too long since the last album"... "Glee is dead anyway"...etc... But in the end, as long as he is happy and I can hear him and see him - It WILL BE OK!
