"he can do anything, all genres. He prob is going to have to pick a lane and stick to it for A3." Can't understand why fans say this. The man can do any genre and enjoys that. Similar to Queen in many ways. Are they Rovk? Pop? Pop/Rock? Don't expect Adam to stay in one lane for A3 because he's already said, "No!" "Genres are passé," most recently in his Twitter party, where he almost seemed annoyed by the question! I hope Adam is signed with WBR because Cavallo seems to be on the same page as Adam in that an artist's vision should never be limited for trying to predict what will be commercially successful! Cavallo's exact words, "It doesn't work." @lambetterer: @adamlambert will the new album be rock genre?” I don't believe in genre. It's passé
My only caveat about the Queen aspect is that yes, they experimented with different types of genres, but typically not in the same album. You basically have several Queen eras: the heavy rock of the early 70s, then it's the theatrical, grandiose, almost operatic genre, then they experimented with disco and funk, then it was synth pop, then they kind of went back more to their roots to some degree. It's like 4 different bands if you picked songs from each era. However, each album pretty much reflected one style, if I am not mistaken. I think that is the difference. Adam should probably stick to one style for each album, but that's just my opinion.

I have to wonder when Adam was looking for style inspiration for the QAL tour if he didn't see this little ditty: Naturally, from the Queen side, Freddie was an inspiration but Roger appears to be too! Seeing how Roger dresses today, it's like 2 different people.

I would disagree on that at least in terms of the early albums. Look at A Night At The Opera.
Blistering rock - Sweet Lady, Death On Two Legs
Soft pop - You're My Best Friend
Folk (almost country) - '39
Tender ballad - Love Of My Life
Prog Rock - Prophet's Song
Opera Rock - BoRhap
Vaudeville Type Dancehall - Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon/Seaside Rendezvous

I would never presume to think Adam "should do" anything other than what he wants to do, artistically! He produces his music, I absorb it! Basically, I am his bitch! My only "want" is that I want it sooner, rather than later! #SelfishBitch

I don't get the "sticking to one genre" suggestion. I hate albums on which all the songs sound pretty much the same. I don't even see why an album has to have a "theme." Can anyone tell me what the "theme" of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was? He had everything from the novelty title song to the rock-inspired "Beat It" to the very personal "Billie Jean" to the soppy ballad "The Lady in My Life" to the fluffy pop duet "The Girl Is Mine." If anyone can spot a cohesive theme or genre there, you're more astute than I am.
I don't recall that performers used to worry about themes. They just put together a collection of great songs that they thought people would enjoy. As others have said, Adam's voice will always be the unifying factor to his music and I for one don't ask for anything more.

I've been a fan for 35-plus years but am only now starting to look into the technical side of their music. Thanks for reminding me of their diversity. I always play Queen music on my iPod on shuffle and not by album, so I sometimes forget when some of the songs were written.

No prob The 70s they were at their absolute genre hopping peak. The 80s poppier era was less genre shifting as a whole per album but it was still there a bit

I stumbled upon this Adam video from 2 1/2 yrs ago. Unbelievably revealing!! He is answering fan questions from around the world, prior to the release of Trespassing. Lots of deep thoughts about his music and performing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8SeSTgusRI
